  OCT 3 SOUTHLAND CONFERENCE DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Rodney Dansby, HCU - LB - So. - Houston, Texas (Bellaire HS),...Dansby tied for the HCU team lead with 11 tackles and returned a fumble for a touchdown in the Huskies' 37-34 win over Lamar. With the game scoreless through the first quarter, Dansby scooped up a fumble and returned it 18 yards for a touchdown for the first score of the game early in the second quarter.   Austin Aune threw for two touchdowns, North Texas rolled up 475 yards on the ground and the Mean Green beat Louisiana Tech 47-27 on Saturday for their eighth straight Conference USA win. Parker McNeil's 58-yard pass to Tre Harris got the Bulldogs (2-4, 1-1) within seven points heading into the fourth quarter, but the Mean Green (4-3, 3-0) got a pair of field goals from Ethan Mooney and a Kaylon Horton TD run of 66 yards to pull away. Isaika Ragsdale's 1-yard TD run gave UNT the game's first points and the Mean Green would lead thereafter, taking a 27-17 at halftime behind Ayo Adeyi's 92-yard TD run and Aune's 51-yard pass to Jvaire Shorter. UNT outgained Louisiana Tech 671-504 with the Mean Green defense collecting seven sacks, three by Mazin Richards and 2 1/2 by Roderick Brown. Aune threw for 196 yards with an interception. Adeyi had 122 yards rushing, Oscar Adaway III 113 and Kaylon Horton 97. McNeil threw for 424 yards and two scores.   OCT 10 CAA FOOTBALL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK: Reese Poffenbarger, Fr., QB, UAlbany (Middletown, Md./Middleton),...Poffenbarger accounted for 333 yards of total offense and two touchdowns in UAlbany's 38-31 setback at Monmouth. The freshman quarterback was 22-of-39 passing for 263 yards and a TD and ran for a career-high 70 yards and a TD on 11 carries. It was Poffenbarger's fourth straight game with 250+ passing yards. - CAA Football

  SEPT 26 CAA FOOTBALL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK: Reese Poffenbarger, Fr., QB, UAlbany (Middletown, Md./Middletown),...Poffenbarger repeats as Rookie of the Week after completing 18-of-26 passes (69.2%) for 257 yards and two touchdowns in UAlbany's 45-26 triumph over Central Connecticut State. The freshman had scoring passes of 22 and 6 yards to tight end Thomas Greaney in third quarter to help the Great Danes pull away.   SEPT 19 CAA FOOTBALL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK: Reese Poffenbarger, Fr., QB, UAlbany (Middletown, Md./Middletown),...Poffenbarger completed 25-of-40 passes for a school-record 412 yards and three touchdowns in UAlbany's narrow 48-45 setback at Fordham. The 412 yards is the 5th-most by a FCS quarterback this season and broke the previous UA mark of 398 yards. The freshman had scoring passes of 45 and 25 yards before firing a 7-yard TD strike that put the Great Danes ahead with 6:18 to play. - CAA Football

  OCT 3 CONFERENCE USA DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: North Texas DB Ridge Texada finished the day with four tackles (all solo), four pass breakups, a tackle for-loss, two interceptions and an interception return for a touchdown in the win over Florida Atlantic. Texada's 58-yard interception return for a touchdown with 9:22 left in the first half marked the first career interception for Texada and the first interception return for a touchdown for UNT since Kemon Hall's against Arkansas on Sept. 15, 2018. On his second interception, Texada's 58-yard interception return to the FAU 1-yard line set up a Mean Green touchdown to take a 42-21 lead with 8:23 left in the third quarter. Texada became the first UNT player with two interceptions in a game since DeShawn Gaddie had two against UTEP on Dec. 20, 2020 and Texada is only the 13th UNT player since 2000 with two interceptions in a game. The last time a UNT player had more than four pass breakups was in 2011, when Royce Hill had five in a game. - Conference USA Football

  Austin Aune threw three touchdown passes to Jyaire Shorter in the first half to guide North Texas to a 45-28 victory over Florida Atlantic on Saturday. Aune hit Shorter for a 25-yard touchdown to open the scoring. Aune sandwiched touchdown throws to Shorter covering 2 and 25 yards around a pick-6 by Ridge Texada and North Texas (3-3, 2-0 Conference USA) led 28-7 with 5:36 left in the second quarter. Florida Atlantic (2-4, 1-1) got within seven points at halftime after Teja Young picked off an Aune pass and returned it 64 yards for a touchdown.

N'Kosi Perry threw a 35-yard scoring strike to Larry McCammon with 21 seconds left before intermission. The Mean Green pulled away in the third quarter on a pair of 1-yard touchdown runs by Ikaika Ragsdale and Isaiah Johnson, taking a 42-21 lead. Aune completed 14 of 20 passes for 180 yards. Ragsdale carried 16 times for 119 yards. Perry completed 26 of 50 passes for 295 yards and two touchdowns with two interceptions for FAU. LaJohntay Wester had 10 catches for 113 yards and a score.   SEPT 19 CONFERENCE USA SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: North Texas KR Kaylon Horton had a 99-yard kickoff return for a touchdown for his fourth career touchdown (two punt returns, one kick return, one receiving) and his first with the Mean Green. It was the first kickoff return for a touchdown by a UNT player since Deion Hair-Griffin had a 96-yard touchdown on August 31, 2019, against Abilene Christian. Horton's 99-yard touchdown is tied for the fourth-longest kick return for a touchdown in UNT history and the fourth-longest return by any FBS player this season. The return was the second career kickoff return for Horton, with the first coming while at Tarleton State in 2020. Horton is now one of only 20 players in FBS with two or more career kick return touchdowns. - Conference USA Football

  North Texas has been without cornerback John Davis Jr. since he went down with an undisclosed injury during the season-opening win over UTEP. Coach Seth Littrell does not discuss the injury status of his players, but it appears as if Davis will be unavailable this week for UNT's game at UNLV. The senior wasn't listed on the Mean Green's depth chart this week.   Austin Aune threw four touchdown passes, Ayo Adeyi had 10 carries for 135 yards - including a 59-yard touchdown - and North Texas never trailed Saturday night in the Mean Green's 52-29 win over Texas Southern. Andrew Body threw a 18-yard TD pass to AJ Bennett that trimmed Texas Southern's deficit to 24-17 with 9:34 left in the second quarter but North Texas (2-1) responded when Aune connected with Roderic Burns for a 70-yard touchdown 46 seconds later, Oscar Adaway III added scoring runs of 3 and 1 yard before halftime and Var'Keyes Gumms caught a 17-yard TD pass from Aune early in the third quarter to make it 52-17. Body finished 19-of-29 passing for 239 yards and a touchdown. Derek Morton had seven receptions for 115 yards and LaDarius Owens added 10 carries for 94 yards and a TD for Texas Southern (0-2).   AUG 29 CONFERENCE USA OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: QB Austin Aune, North Texas,...Making his first opening day start since his senior year of high school in 2011, Aune continued his success against UTEP in his career. The junior from Argyle completed 16-29 passes for 236 yards and three touchdowns. He helped UNT go a perfect 5-for-5 in the red zone and score a road conference win to begin the year for the first time since 2005. Aune completed passes to eight different receivers. It was also UNT's first double-digit win on the road to open a season since taking down Ball State 20-10 in 2009. Aune continued his stellar career against the Miners in his third start against them, as he now has 778 passing yards, nine touchdown passes and no interceptions with a 3-0 record. - Conference USA Football

  Austin Aune threw three touchdown passes, including two in a pivotal third quarter, and North Texas pulled away for a 31-13 victory over UTEP in a season opener on Saturday. Aune, who completed 16 of 29 passes for 236 yards, connected with Tommy Bush for an 11-yard TD to tie the game at 7-7 in the second quarter. Aune turned a 14-13 halftime lead into a 28-13 advantage for the Mean Green heading into the final quarter with scoring passes of 9 yards to Isaiah Johnson and an 11-yarder to Jake Roberts. Gavin Hardison completed 21 of 48 passes for 293 yards. Hardison gave the Miners a 7-0 lead in the second quarter with a 32-yard scoring strike to Tyrin Smith, who had seven receptions for 127 yards. Gavin Baechle kicked two field goals in the period. Ethan Mooney capped the scoring for the Mean Green with a 28-yard field goal in the final quarter.   2022 PRESEASON RAY GUY WATCHLIST: Bernardo Rodriguez - University of North Texas,...Rodriguez (5-10, 189) is known at Coppell High School (Texas) for not allowing a single return yard in 38 punts as a senior. He also rushed for 235 yards and as a senior returned six kickoffs, including a 100-yard touchdown. Spent two years at Kansas State from 2017-18 ... Appeared in four games, posting a 36.5-yard average on eight punts for K-State in 2018 ...Apparently Rodriguez moved to UNT in 2019 but didn’t play football that year. Last season (2021), he punted 61 times for 2,675 yards with a 43.9 yard average, 16 over 50 yards, a long of 70 yards and pinning the opponent inside the 20 16 times … a season-long 70 yarder. He finished with a 54 yard average on five punts in Frisco Football Classic vs. Miami on 12/23. In 2020 season punted 37 times for 1,605 yards, an average of 43.4, with eight of 50 or more yards and nine inside the 20. - North Texas Football
