Injured Coastal Carolina quarterback Grayson McCall could miss the rest of the season for the 22nd-ranked Chanticleers, coach Jamey Chadwell said. McCall, a 6-foot-3, 209-pound redshirt sophomore from Indian Trail, North Carolina, missed last weekend's 28-8 win at Georgia Southern with what the school called an upper-body injury. "We don't know how long he's going to be out," Chadwell said Monday on a Sun Belt Conference coaches teleconference. "We hope to get him back before the end of the regular season." Chadwell said McCall was hurt during a 35-28 victory over Troy on Oct. 28. McCall came out for several plays in the third quarter after dropping to the turf. However, he returned to the game and said during postgame interviews that he felt OK. Chadwell said McCall has had several tests to pinpoint the problem and he is hopeful his standout passer, the FBS leader in pass efficiency, will be back. "He could be out the rest of the season, based on the recovery ... he could come back before then," Chadwell said. "We really don't have a complete answer right now." Senior Bryce Carpenter filled in for McCall against Georgia Southern and will start Saturday when the Chants (8-1, 4-1 Sun Belt) take on Georgia State (4-5, 3-2). Carpenter has made nine career starts for Coastal Carolina. - AP College Football

Coastal Carolina quarterback Grayson McCall won't play Saturday night against Georgia Southern. The school said McCall is out indefinitely with an upper body injury. The Chanticleers (7-1, 4-1 Sun Belt Conference) are looking to stay in the chase for the league's East Division title at the Eagles (2-6, 1-4). McCall is a redshirt sophomore who's thrown for 2,063 yards, 17 touchdowns and two interceptions this season. He leads the nation in passing efficiency and is third in completion percentage. Senior Bryce Carpenter will start in McCall's place. Carpenter has played in seven games this season, completing 11 of 19 passes for 165 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. - AP College Football

Facing another tight finish with Troy, Coastal Carolina coach Jamey Chadwell remembered something Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Bruce Arians puts on his play sheet: "No risk it, no biscuit." Chadwell took the risk on a fake punt with about 3 minutes left and a one-score lead as No. 24 Coastal Carolina held off Troy 35-28 on Thursday night, rebounding from its first loss of the season at Appalachian State last time out. The result was a 12-yard run for the first down by defensive tackle C.J. Brewer that kept the drive going. "I felt like last week, from a play-calling standpoint, I got a little apprehensive," Chadwell said. "I said, Hey, this week we're going for it." The successful run on fourth-and-4 let Coastal Carolina (7-1, 3-1 Sun Belt Conference) hold the ball until the final 25 seconds on the way to their 12th straight home victory.

Grayson McCall threw for 294 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran for a third touchdown as the Chanticleers overcame a slow start to beat Troy (4-4, 2-2) for a third straight time. "Obviously, we didn't play our best ball, but we found a way and now it's on to the next one," McCall said. McCall connected on scoring throws of 66 yards to Jaivon Heiligh and 71 yards to Braydon Bennett. Still, Troy (4-4, 2-2) made it a one-score game on Gunnar Watson's 18-yard touchdown pass to Tez Johnson to draw within 35-28 with 4:52 to go. - Coastal Carolina/AP College Football

North Carolina State coach Dave Doeren says starting linebacker Isaiah Moore and starting left guard Chandler Zavala have suffered season-ending injuries. Doeren said Monday both players will need surgery, though he didn't specify the exact nature of the injuries. Moore went down holding his knee during Saturday's loss at Miami. The redshirt junior later returned briefly before exiting a final time, sidelining a player who is the team's No. 2 tackler (43). It also marks the Wolfpack's fourth defensive starter lost to a season-ending injury this season, joining all-Atlantic Coast Conference linebacker Payton Wilson, safety Cyrus Fagan and nose tackle C.J. Clark. The 6-foot-5, 325-pound Zavala, a graduate transfer from Fairmont State, started the first five games at left guard but didn't play in a win at Boston College nor the Miami loss due to injury. The Miami loss knocked the Wolfpack out of the AP Top 25. N.C. State (5-2, 2-1 ACC) hosts Louisville on Saturday night. - AP College Football

Brennan Armstrong threw four touchdown passes and ran for two more scores and Virginia rallied from a slow start and beat Georgia Tech 48-40 on Saturday night, the Cavaliers' fourth straight victory. Armstrong connected with Dontayvion Wicks for touchdowns of 13 and 77 yards, Billy Kemp IV from a yard out and Ra'Shaun Henry from 20 yards. He scored on runs of 4 and 14 yards as the Cavaliers (6-2, 4-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) rallied after trailing 13-0 midway through the first quarter. Coach Bronco Mendenhall was delighted with how his offense performed - "There's lots and lots of production happening out there. Super fun to watch," he said after the Cavaliers rolled up 636 yards. He was less enamored of his special teams and defense, which allowed the Yellow Jackets to turn Virginia's 48-27 lead into a nail-biter at the end by recovering a pair of onside kicks.

His players weren't thrilled with that turn of events either. "You know, coming into the fourth, I can't remember how much we were up, but we were we were up a lot so giving up those two onside kicks in and having our defense come back out and not play well was definitely, definitely not great," defensive back Coen King said. Wicks said the win was the most important thing, but in the locker room afterward, "being that it didn't have to go like that, it was a little accountability." Jeff Sims threw for 300 yards and three touchdowns and Jahmyr Gibbs ran for 132 yards, including a 71-yard TD burst, for the Yellow Jackets (3-4, 2-3), who lost for the 13th time in their last 15 visits to Scott Stadium. - Virginia/AP College Football

Thayer Thomas knew the pass wasn't intended for him. Then he realized he had a chance to catch it. "On that play I'm not even a viable option," Thomas said after his leaping catch from Devin Leary on a broken play led to a 79-yard touchdown that helped No. 22 North Carolina State beat Boston College 33-7 on Saturday night. "It's kind of just like a scramble play," Thomas said. "My job is to set the pick for somebody coming underneath me. Devin just went right, he found me and I just had to kind of make a play for him." The game was tied 7-7 with just seconds left in the first half when the Wolfpack ran their kicking unit out to squeeze in a 27-yard field goal before time expired. They then added three touchdowns in the third quarter - two of them off back-to-back BC turnovers - to turn a tie game into a 31-7 blowout.

N.C. State added a safety in the final four minutes to seal its third straight victory. Coach Dave Doeren said he hopes it sends a message to those who doubt whether the Wolfpack (5-1, 2-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) are for real. "I mean, look, I can't control the lack of respect that we seem to get, publicly. We know about it. Out team recognizes that people don't think we're good," he said. "We're going to end up where we're supposed to be at the end of the year, and people will think what they think." Leary threw for 251 yards and three touchdowns, also completing a 40-yard scoring pass on the opening drive on a throw that bounced off the back of the defender before Devin Carter gathered it in. - North Carolina State/AP College Football

Jack Chambers threw for 357 yards and four scores and Charleston scored three touchdowns in the third quarter and went on to beat Hampton 35-5 on Saturday. Chambers broke it open throwing a 45-yard touchdown pass to Kale Anderson on the Buccaneers' (2-3, 1-2 Big South Conference) first drive of the second half for a 21-3 lead. Chambers concluded a five-play, 98-yard drive with a 19-yard scoring pass to Ja'Rell Smith with 7:15 left in the third quarter. Cayden Jordan caught six passes for 152 yards for Charleston Southern.   Brennan Armstrong threw for two first-half touchdowns and ran for another and Virginia scored on all six possessions before halftime in a 48-0 victory over Duke, it's seventh straight in the series. Armstrong hit Dontayvion Wicks on a 20-yard corner route and Jelani Woods with five seconds left in the first half as the Cavaliers (5-2, 3-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) built a 34-0 lead. The touchdown just before halftime came as intermittent rain began to fall more significantly, sending fans to the exits.

The victory margin was the Cavaliers' largest since they beat VMI 49-0 in 2013, and largest in an ACC game since they beat Miami 48-0 in 2007. Earlier in the season, after opening with two impressive wins, the Cavaliers defense was maligned after allowing 699 yards in a 59-39 loss to North Carolina and then losing 37-17 at home against No. 16 Wake Forest. "We're just playing more physical. We're playing with more passion. We're having fun out there," linebacker Nick Jackson said. "We just got back to going out there and having fun and we're celebrating and having fun, just doing our little things." The Blue Devils (3-4, 0-3) arrived third in the league with an average of 496.8 yards of offense, but mounted just one drive in the first half. It ended when Matt Alswanger banged a 25-yard field goal attempt off the left upright. A fourth-and-5 pass from the Cavaliers' 19 was batted down in the third quarter. - Virginia/AP College Football

Grayson McCall threw a 99-yard touchdown pass on his first attempt and No. 15 Coastal Carolina beat Arkansas State 52-20 on Thursday night for its 11th straight victory. McCall completed 18 of 23 passes for a career-high 365 yards and four touchdowns without an interception. Isaiah Likely also had a big night, catching eight passes for 232 yards and four touchdowns - all career highs - and kicking the game off with the school-record 99-yarder. He became the first tight end in Sun Belt Conference history with four touchdown catches in a game. "I got the best quarterback in the nation, the best O-Line in the nation. The reason we score 50 points in a game is the chemistry," Likely said. "Our mantra is to score as many points as we can. Score 50 points and get a burger. I love burgers." Coastal Carolina (6-0, 2-0 Sun Belt) also got scoring runs of 64 yards from Reese White and 67 yards from backup quarterback Bryce Carpenter. - both career longs. "I thought we played really well the first half and clamped them down," Chanticleers coach Jamey Chadwell said. - Coastal Carolina/AP College Football

Grayson McCall threw a scare into Coastal Carolina fans after finishing off Louisiana Monroe on Saturday. McCall threw for 212 yards on 13-of-13 passing with two touchdowns to Isaiah Likely as the 16th-ranked Chanticleers rolled to a 59-6 victory to start Sun Belt Conference play Saturday. The Chanticleers (1-0 Sun Belt) started 5-0 for a second straight season and have won 16 of their past 17 the last two seasons. McCall played the first two quarters. When he returned to the sidelines for the second half, he had a walking boot on his left foot. Not to worry, Coastal Carolina coach Jamey Chadwell said.

McCall had his left ankle rolled on during the game, he said, and the boot was just extra protection to prevent anyone else accidently stepping on his foot. "Grayson was taken out from a precautionary standpoint. He wasn't going to come back in the second half anyway," Chadwell said. McCall was moving easily in the boot. Chadwell expects McCall to be ready when the Chanticleers face Arkansas State next Thursday. And they'll certainly need him to keep winning. McCall was already the FBS leader in completion percentage and had little trouble keeping that going against the Warhawks (2-2, 1-1). He led Coastal Carolina to scores on all five first-half possessions for a 38-3 lead at the break, then watched the rest of the game from the sidelines. Likely had five receptions for 95 yards, including scoring catches of 5 and 30 yards from McCall. - Coastal Carolina/AP College Football
