Brennan Armstrong threw four touchdown passes and ran for two more scores and Virginia rallied from a slow start and beat Georgia Tech 48-40 on Saturday night, the Cavaliers' fourth straight victory. Armstrong connected with Dontayvion Wicks for touchdowns of 13 and 77 yards, Billy Kemp IV from a yard out and Ra'Shaun Henry from 20 yards. He scored on runs of 4 and 14 yards as the Cavaliers (6-2, 4-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) rallied after trailing 13-0 midway through the first quarter. Coach Bronco Mendenhall was delighted with how his offense performed - "There's lots and lots of production happening out there. Super fun to watch," he said after the Cavaliers rolled up 636 yards. He was less enamored of his special teams and defense, which allowed the Yellow Jackets to turn Virginia's 48-27 lead into a nail-biter at the end by recovering a pair of onside kicks.

His players weren't thrilled with that turn of events either. "You know, coming into the fourth, I can't remember how much we were up, but we were we were up a lot so giving up those two onside kicks in and having our defense come back out and not play well was definitely, definitely not great," defensive back Coen King said. Wicks said the win was the most important thing, but in the locker room afterward, "being that it didn't have to go like that, it was a little accountability." Jeff Sims threw for 300 yards and three touchdowns and Jahmyr Gibbs ran for 132 yards, including a 71-yard TD burst, for the Yellow Jackets (3-4, 2-3), who lost for the 13th time in their last 15 visits to Scott Stadium. - Virginia/AP College Football

Thayer Thomas knew the pass wasn't intended for him. Then he realized he had a chance to catch it. "On that play I'm not even a viable option," Thomas said after his leaping catch from Devin Leary on a broken play led to a 79-yard touchdown that helped No. 22 North Carolina State beat Boston College 33-7 on Saturday night. "It's kind of just like a scramble play," Thomas said. "My job is to set the pick for somebody coming underneath me. Devin just went right, he found me and I just had to kind of make a play for him." The game was tied 7-7 with just seconds left in the first half when the Wolfpack ran their kicking unit out to squeeze in a 27-yard field goal before time expired. They then added three touchdowns in the third quarter - two of them off back-to-back BC turnovers - to turn a tie game into a 31-7 blowout.

N.C. State added a safety in the final four minutes to seal its third straight victory. Coach Dave Doeren said he hopes it sends a message to those who doubt whether the Wolfpack (5-1, 2-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) are for real. "I mean, look, I can't control the lack of respect that we seem to get, publicly. We know about it. Out team recognizes that people don't think we're good," he said. "We're going to end up where we're supposed to be at the end of the year, and people will think what they think." Leary threw for 251 yards and three touchdowns, also completing a 40-yard scoring pass on the opening drive on a throw that bounced off the back of the defender before Devin Carter gathered it in. - North Carolina State/AP College Football

Brennan Armstrong threw for two first-half touchdowns and ran for another and Virginia scored on all six possessions before halftime in a 48-0 victory over Duke, it's seventh straight in the series. Armstrong hit Dontayvion Wicks on a 20-yard corner route and Jelani Woods with five seconds left in the first half as the Cavaliers (5-2, 3-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) built a 34-0 lead. The touchdown just before halftime came as intermittent rain began to fall more significantly, sending fans to the exits.

The victory margin was the Cavaliers' largest since they beat VMI 49-0 in 2013, and largest in an ACC game since they beat Miami 48-0 in 2007. Earlier in the season, after opening with two impressive wins, the Cavaliers defense was maligned after allowing 699 yards in a 59-39 loss to North Carolina and then losing 37-17 at home against No. 16 Wake Forest. "We're just playing more physical. We're playing with more passion. We're having fun out there," linebacker Nick Jackson said. "We just got back to going out there and having fun and we're celebrating and having fun, just doing our little things." The Blue Devils (3-4, 0-3) arrived third in the league with an average of 496.8 yards of offense, but mounted just one drive in the first half. It ended when Matt Alswanger banged a 25-yard field goal attempt off the left upright. A fourth-and-5 pass from the Cavaliers' 19 was batted down in the third quarter. - Virginia/AP College Football

Grayson McCall threw a 99-yard touchdown pass on his first attempt and No. 15 Coastal Carolina beat Arkansas State 52-20 on Thursday night for its 11th straight victory. McCall completed 18 of 23 passes for a career-high 365 yards and four touchdowns without an interception. Isaiah Likely also had a big night, catching eight passes for 232 yards and four touchdowns - all career highs - and kicking the game off with the school-record 99-yarder. He became the first tight end in Sun Belt Conference history with four touchdown catches in a game. "I got the best quarterback in the nation, the best O-Line in the nation. The reason we score 50 points in a game is the chemistry," Likely said. "Our mantra is to score as many points as we can. Score 50 points and get a burger. I love burgers." Coastal Carolina (6-0, 2-0 Sun Belt) also got scoring runs of 64 yards from Reese White and 67 yards from backup quarterback Bryce Carpenter. - both career longs. "I thought we played really well the first half and clamped them down," Chanticleers coach Jamey Chadwell said. - Coastal Carolina/AP College Football

Grayson McCall threw a scare into Coastal Carolina fans after finishing off Louisiana Monroe on Saturday. McCall threw for 212 yards on 13-of-13 passing with two touchdowns to Isaiah Likely as the 16th-ranked Chanticleers rolled to a 59-6 victory to start Sun Belt Conference play Saturday. The Chanticleers (1-0 Sun Belt) started 5-0 for a second straight season and have won 16 of their past 17 the last two seasons. McCall played the first two quarters. When he returned to the sidelines for the second half, he had a walking boot on his left foot. Not to worry, Coastal Carolina coach Jamey Chadwell said.

McCall had his left ankle rolled on during the game, he said, and the boot was just extra protection to prevent anyone else accidently stepping on his foot. "Grayson was taken out from a precautionary standpoint. He wasn't going to come back in the second half anyway," Chadwell said. McCall was moving easily in the boot. Chadwell expects McCall to be ready when the Chanticleers face Arkansas State next Thursday. And they'll certainly need him to keep winning. McCall was already the FBS leader in completion percentage and had little trouble keeping that going against the Warhawks (2-2, 1-1). He led Coastal Carolina to scores on all five first-half possessions for a 38-3 lead at the break, then watched the rest of the game from the sidelines. Likely had five receptions for 95 yards, including scoring catches of 5 and 30 yards from McCall. - Coastal Carolina/AP College Football

Virginia caught a break. Miami didn't. And in the end, the Cavaliers needed every second to escape with a win. Dontayvion Wicks had a circus catch for a touchdown, Brennan Armstrong passed for 268 yards and Virginia added to Miami's struggles by beating the Hurricanes 30-28 on Thursday night. "I'm so happy for my team," Virginia coach Bronco Mendenhall said. Miami freshman kicker Andy Borregales missed a 33-yard field goal try as time expired, the ball bouncing off the left upright. The Hurricanes drove 75 yards in 14 plays on their final drive, almost stealing a game they never led and in which they trailed 27-14 in the third quarter. "Got to put him in a better situation. Offense has got to score," said Miami running back Cam'Ron Harris, who rushed for 111 yards and a pair of touchdowns. "We shouldn't have put him in that situation." Armstrong - who came into the game leading the nation in passing yards per game, averaging 426 per contest - completed 25 of 44 passes for the Cavaliers (3-2, 1-2 Atlantic Coast Conference). Wayne Taulapapa and Mike Hollins had rushing touchdowns for Virginia and Miami native Mendy Alonso came up with a sack for a safety for the Cavaliers in the first quarter, two points that loomed very large at the end. "We played together," Armstrong said. "We never backed down from anything." - Virginia/AP College Football

Coastal Carolina's defense loves watching the Chanticleers' offense operate, as long as it's on game days and not in practice. Both sides of the ball stood strong Saturday as the 17th-ranked Chants scored on eight of nine possessions for a 53-3 victory that sent UMass to its 15th consecutive loss. Chants linebacker Silas Kelly said the strength of the defense directly correlates to the offense since they go after each other at practice. "Those guys are insane," Kelly said. "They're really, really good. And seeing them at practice has a lot to do with it, too. Hopefully, when you play against guys like that, it makes games a little bit easier." Things looked easy for the Chants in this one as they opened 4-0 for a second straight season. The offense piled up 558 yards and the defense held a shutout until midway through the fourth quarter. "As I said, playing together helps," Kelly said. "We just want to have a lot of fun out there." Grayson McCall threw for two touchdowns and ran for a third.

Jaivon Heiligh had five catches for 118 yards receiving, the fifth time in the past six games he's surpassed the century mark. Backup receiver Tyson Mobley a touchdown catch and another on the ground. "Everybody on the offense is making plays," Mobley said. "That's just the way it is." The Chanticleers have won 15 of their past 16 games. They also cranked things up after a subpar offensive showing in 28-25 win at Buffalo last week. - Coastal Carolina/AP College Football

Grayson McCall threw for three touchdowns, Shermari Jones ran for 149 yards and another score, and No. 16 Coastal Carolina held on to beat Buffalo 28-25 on Saturday for its first road win of the season. McCall, who entered the day leading the nation in passing efficiency and completion rate, was 13-of-19 passing for 232 yards with his first interception of the season. Jaivon Heiligh caught four passes for 91 yards and a touchdown for the Chanticleers (3-0), becoming the fourth receiver in school history to surpass 2,000 career yards.

Buffalo (1-2) got within a field goal with 2:41 remaining. Kevin Marks' 7-yard touchdown run capped a 92-yard drive that started when Logic Hudgens intercepted McCall in the end zone. The Bulls rushed for 260 yards, led by career-high efforts from Dylan McDuffie (92 yards, one touchdown) and Ron Cook (83 yards). Marks, Buffalo's lead back, finished with 64 yards.
