  SEPT 30/WEEK 5 STATS FCS NATIONAL SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Adam Wilson, Montana, PK/P, Sr., 6-0, 185, San Diego,...The former University of Arizona rugby player was instrumental in giving UC Davis subpar field position during Montana's 45-20 rout of the then-No. 4 Aggies. All three of his punts pinned the Aggies inside their 8-yard line, including a 51-yarder that went out of bounds at the 5. He averaged 61.6 yards on seven kickoffs, and only one Aggies' drive other than a fumble recovery had a better start than their 26.   Archrivals Montana and Montana State aren't fond of sharing with each other, but they had to give some elbow room in the STATS FCS Top 25 on Monday. The two 4-1 teams both appeared in the Top 10 of the national media poll for the first time in nearly five years. Montana State moved up one spot to No. 6 and Montana 10 spots to No. 8 - their first tag-team of the Top 10 since Oct. 20, 2014, although in between both made separate appearances.

Each posted a rousing win in its Big Sky opener on Saturday. Montana State overcame a 21-0 deficit in the second quarter to power past Northern Arizona 49-31. Montana allowed a similar comeback to UC Davis last season, but this year, the Grizzlies never trailed against the then-No. 4 Aggies in winning 45-20. The top three spots in the rankings didn't change. North Dakota State, James Madison and South Dakota State have held 1, 2 and 3, respectively, since the preseason. NDSU and SDSU had byes this past weekend while James Madison routed then-No. 24 Elon 45-10. - STATS FCS Football

  Dalton Sneed threw five touchdown passes and Montana took advantage of two turnovers early in the second half to pull away for a 45-20 win over UC Davis in a battle of top 25 FCS teams on Saturday. The Grizzlies scored on a 62-yard bomb from Sneed to Samuel Akem on the third play of the second half to take a 24-7 lead. Davis lost fumbles on its next two possessions and Sneed capitalized with touchdown passes to Jerry Louie-McGee. The first was a 14-yard pass one play after Ryder recovered a Jake Maier fumble. The second was a 23-yard play on the fourth play after Rice forced a fumble by receiver Darius Livingston that Josh Sandry recovered at midfield.

Sneed finished 22 of 33 for 268 yards and rushed for another 81 yards as the 18th-ranked Grizzlies (4-1, 1-0 Big Sky Conference) finished with 528 yards of total offense. Marcus Knight ran for 91 yards and scored the last touchdown for Montana. Maier was 32 of 43 for 275 yards and three touchdowns with an interception for the fifth-ranked Aggies (2-3, 0-1), who played Cal and top-ranked North Dakota State closer than they did the Griz. Last season, Davis outscored Montana 46-0 in the second half to win 49-21. Maier moved into second on the Aggie career touchdown pass list with 70. - Montana//AP College Football

  SEPT 23/WEEK 4 BIG SKY OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Montana quarterback Dalton Sneed completed 30 of his 40 passes for a total of 334 yards and four touchdowns to help the Griz dominate Monmouth in non-conference action en route to a 47-27 victory. He completed touchdown passes of 23, 9, 5, and 4 yards. The senior finished the game with a career-high completion percentage of 75. Sneed tallied 21 yards on the ground for 355 yards of total offense in the win. It was the second kickoff returned for a score in Flowers’ career. His return was the longest in modern Grizzly history, passing Damon Boddie’s 1993 return of 99 yards at Idaho.   Dalton Sneed threw for 334 yards and four touchdowns, Marcus Knight ran for 148 yards and another score and Montana beat Monmouth 47-27 on Saturday. Sneed threw two touchdown passes to Bryson Deming and one each to Colin Bingham and Jerry Louie-McGee. Deming's second score with 3:49 remaining gave the Grizzlies (3-1) of the Big Sky Conference breathing room over the Hawks (2-2) of the Big South Conference. The touchdown was set up by an interception from Montana's Dareon Nash near the goal line with 7:09 left.

Montana took the lead for good on a 100-yard kickoff return from Malik Flowers, just after the Hawks had tied the game at 7-7 on a Devell Jones scoring run at 8:21 of the second quarter. Kenji Bahar was 34-for-50 passing for 393 yard for Monmouth. He was intercepted twice, both in the fourth quarter. Pete Guerriero, who averages 130 yards rushing, managed just 47 yards on 18 carries.   SEPT 9 BIG SKY SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Montana return specialist Jerry Louie-McGee registered a 74-yard punt return in the third quarter that helped lift Montana to a 61-17 win over North Alabama. It was the third punt return for a touchdown in Louie-McGee's career. The senior collected five punts for a total of 150 yards, an average of 30 yards per touch. Louie-McGee's 150 total yards are the most in a game of any player in FCS football so far this season.   Dalton Sneed passed for a touchdown and ran for another, Marcus Knight added three rushing TDs, and Montana pulled away in the second half for a 61-17 win over North Alabama on Saturday night. Sneed completed 24 of 38 passes for 269 yards, including a 9-yard scoring strike to Matt Rensvold, and Knight finished with 19 carries for 89 yards. The Grizzlies (2-0) trailed 17-16 at intermission as special teams miscues and a fumble by Sneed deep in North Alabama territory sparked the Lions (1-1). But then Sneed led Montana on three scoring drives before Griz return man Jerry Louis-McGee tore off a 74-yard punt return to make it 40-17 with 2:51 left in the third quarter.

For a time Sneed was outplayed by his UNA counterpart, Christian Lopez, who like Sneed began his college career at UNLV. Lopez threw for 280 yards in the first half, including a 75-yard catch and run by Cortez Hall on a screen. When Montana tried a fake field goal late in the first half and had it stuffed, Lopez quickly found Jakobi Byrd for 64 yards and a 17-16 lead late in the second quarter. Montana quickly took command, sandwiching scoring runs of 1 and 24 yards by Knight around Brandon Purdy's 47-yard field goal. Then came Louie-McGee's punt return that dazzled the crowd of 24,033 at Washington-Grizzly Stadium. Backup quarterback Cam Humphrey added a 12-yard scoring pass to Nick Ostmo in the fourth quarter for the Griz, who also got a 3-yard scoring run from Drew Turner. - AP College Football

  Dalton Sneed threw for a career-high 430 yards and had three passing touchdowns and another rushing to lead Montana to a 31-17 win over South Dakota in the season opener for both teams on Saturday. Sneed was 37 of 52 with two interceptions. His 16-yard pass to Samori Toure put the Grizzlies up 7-3 and he followed with a 2-yard run to help build a 17-10 lead at the half. In the third quarter Sneed connected with Samuel Akem for a 43-yard score and Marcus Knight from 6 yards out.

Akem and Toure both had nine receptions, Akem for 158 yards and Toure for 142. Jerry Louie-McGee had eight catches to push his career total to 185 and is now seven shy of matching the school record. Austin Simmons, who threw for 3,142 yards last year, was 22 of 23 for 246 yards and two touchdowns for the Coyotes. Kody Case had 11 catches for 144 yards with touchdown plays of 3 and 9 yards. South Dakota had won 16 straight home openers while Montana had lost 10 straight road openers. - AP College Football

  Georgia Tech quarterback Lucas Johnson has been granted a sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA. Johnson can play three more college seasons after the decision announced Thursday. The 6-foot-3, 215-pound quarterback was granted the additional year after seeing action in just one of his first three seasons. He was redshirted in 2016 and missed all of last season with a foot injury. Johnson appeared in nine games as a reserve quarterback and holder in 2017. He appears likely to be the starter when Georgia Tech opens the season Aug. 29 at defending national champion Clemson. The NCAA's decision was similar to the one in late July that gave linebacker David Curry a sixth year. He has two seasons of eligibility remaining. - AP College Football

  2019 PRESEASON BUTKUS AWARD WATCH LIST: Dante Olson, Montana,...The preseason accolades continue to roll in for Montana senior linebacker Dante Olson, today named to the 35th annual Butkus Award collegiate watch list honoring the nation's top Division-I linebacker. He is the only player from the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) to make the list. Olson is also only the second player in Montana history, and the second in as many years to be named to the prestigious watch list following Josh Buss' recognition in 2018. Devin White of Louisiana State won the Butkus Award that season before being selected fifth in the NFL Draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Olson, a 6-3, 237-pound senior from Medford, Ore., is coming off one of the most productive defensive seasons in Montana and Big Sky Conference history with a school-record and FCS-best 151 total tackles. He has since been named to seven All-America teams, was a top-three finalist for the 2018 Buck Buchanan Award, earned first-team all-conference honors, and was named Montana's Steve Carlson team MVP. - Montana Football
