  11/15/22 - Elijah SpencerSr/2025, Minnesota, 6-2, 200 (DS#133 WR) + More +

The Charlotte 49ers have named Michigan associate head coach Francis "Biff" Poggi as their head football coach. Poggi is set to replace Will Healy, who was fired earlier this season. Pete Rossomando has been serving as the interim coach and will finish out the season. Poggi inherits a team that has struggled in 2022, going 2-9 entering the season finale Saturday against Louisiana Tech. He will begin coaching the 49ers next season, but his duties with the school will begin following next week's introductory news conference. Poggi is Charlotte's third head football coach since the school's FBS football program started in 2015.

He helped Michigan to the 2021 Big Ten championship and a berth in the College Football Playoffs. This season, Michigan is 10-0 and ranked No. 3 in the country. "We are extremely fortunate to welcome Biff Poggi as our head football coach," Charlotte director of athletics Mike Hill said in a release. "He is a transformational leader and has a sterling reputation as a coach, having had phenomenal success at the highest levels of college and high school football." Prior to joining the Wolverines, Poggi led the high school football program at Saint Frances Academy in his hometown of Baltimore to national prominence. Several of his players landed scholarships with powerhouse schools such as Alabama, LSU, Notre Dame and Michigan. "Biff has been a tremendous asset to our program, providing support and mentorship to our coaching staff and players," Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh said. "He has a great football mind, knows how to prepare a team during the week and on game day, and is a coach that aims to change the lives of his players in a positive way. Biff is a trusted agent and known friend, and I know that his leadership and ability to develop a team-first culture will be a huge asset to the Charlotte 49ers." Poggi called joining the 49ers an incredible opportunity and said this is a "full circle" moment for him. - AP College Football

Trailing by four, the sophomore guided the Wildcats on an 89-yard drive in the final 2:21 and hit D.J. Linkins on a 26-yard TD pass on 4th-and-9.   11/12/22 - Emmett MoreheadrSr/2026, Minnesota, 6-5, 235 (DS#999 QB) + More +

Emmett Morehead threw a 2-yard pass to Joseph Griffin Jr. with 14 seconds left and Boston College rallied past No. 17 North Carolina State 21-20 on Saturday. The Eagles (3-7, 2-5 Atlantic Coast Conference) won with a 12-play, 69-yard drive. A pass interference penalty on fourth down with 18 seconds left gave Boston College another chance. Morehead, making his second career start, was 29 of 48 for 330 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions. He threw a pair of TD strikes to Zay Flowers, who caught seven passes for 130 yards, as the Eagles snapped a four-game losing streak. M.J. Morris threw and ran for early touchdowns for the Wolfpack (7-3, 3-3), which committed four second-half turnovers. This was N.C. State's third game decided by one point this season - it won the other two.

Morris, also making his second career start, was 12 for 24 for 132 yards. Christopher Dunn had field goals of 30 and 45 yards. The Wolfpack was denied a school-record 17th consecutive home victory. Turnovers cost both teams in the second half. Boston College had a chance to go ahead in the third quarter after recovering a fumble in Wolfpack territory. But Morehead, with Devan Boykin grabbing him, threw a wayward pass intercepted by Payton Wilson. Early in the fourth quarter, Marcus Valdez knocked the ball out of Morris' hand, and Boston College took over at the N.C. State 40. The Eagles failed to pick up a first down and gave it back on an incomplete fourth-down pass. N.C. State moved with ease on its first two possessions. Morris hit Trent Pennix for a 27-yard touchdown play to begin the scoring. Morris ran 10 yards with a nice cut to dodge defenders for the Wolfpack's second touchdown. Two plays after Boston College's fourth-down conversion in the second quarter, Morehead connected on a 17-yard touchdown pass to Flowers. - Boston College/AP College Football

  11/12/22 - Mohamed IbrahimrSr/2023, Minnesota, 5-08, 203 (DS#22 RB) + More +

Mohamed Ibrahim rushed for 178 yards and three touchdowns and Minnesota's defense continued its dominance on Saturday as the Golden Gophers defeated Northwestern 31-3. Ibrahim, who carried the ball 36 times, extended his streak of consecutive 100-yard rushing games to 18, the longest in FBS since 2000. He also became the seventh player in Big Ten history with 50 career rushing touchdowns. The Gophers didn't ask freshman quarterback Athan Kaliakmanis, making his first home start in place of the injured Tanner Morgan, to do much. He was 7-for-13 passing for 64 yards and rushed four times for 28 yards. Kaliakmanis relieved Morgan at halftime of Minnesota's game at Nebraska on Nov. 5, rallying the Gophers from a 10-0 deficit to a 20-13 win.

The Gophers (7-3, 4-3 Big Ten) entered the game with the No. 4-scoring defense in the country, allowing just 14.2 points per game. That average dipped further after they kept the Wildcats (1-9, 1-6) out of the end zone for the first time all season. On the second play of the second half, Gophers defensive back Tyler Nubin intercepted a pass from backup quarterback Ryan Hilinski. Minnesota turned that into a 41-yard field goal by Matthew Trickett and a 17-3 lead. Ibrahim's 1-yard plunge on the first play of the fourth quarter made it 24-3. It was Ibrahim's 18th rushing touchdown of the season, tying the school record set by Gary Russell in 2005. The Wildcats crossed the 50-yard line just twice in the first half. Midway through the first, they advanced to the Gophers 16 before Jordan Howden and Terrell Smith teamed to stuff Evan Hull on fourth and 1. Later, the Gophers appeared poised to head into the locker room with a 14-0 halftime lead, as a punt pinned Northwestern at its own 7-yard line with 2:08 to play. But two passes later, the Wildcats were in field goal position. - Minnesota/AP College Football

  11/12/22 - Max BrosmerrSr/2025, Minnesota, 6-2, 218 (DS#14 QB) + More +

Max Brosmer connected with DJ Linkins for a 26-yard touchdown pass with 17 seconds remaining, lifting New Hampshire to a 31-28 victory over Rhode Island on Saturday. The win keeps the Wildcats (7-3, 6-1) tied for first place in the Colonial Athletic Association. Kasim Hill drove Rhode Island 68 yards in 10 plays for the go-ahead score in the middle of the fourth quarter. Hill's 15-yard pass to Ed Lee gave the Rams (6-4, 4-3) a 28-24 lead with 7:07 remaining.

After an exchange of punts, Brosmer took his turn at a go-ahead drive. The Wildcats went 89 yards in 10 plays with Brosmer connecting with Linkins near the left corner of the end zone. Brosmer completed 31 of 43 passes for 316 yards with two touchdowns. Hill was 17-of-33 passing for 222 yards, also with two touchdowns. No. 21 New Hampshire is tied for first place with No. 8 William & Mary and No. 12 Richmond. The regular season wraps up on Saturday when New Hampshire visits Maine and William & Mary plays at Richmond. - New Hampshire/AP College Football

  11/05/22 - Mohamed IbrahimrSr/2023, Minnesota, 5-08, 203 (DS#22 RB) + More +

Mohamed Ibrahim rushed for 128 yards and two second-half touchdowns, and backup quarterback Athan Kaliakmanis brought Minnesota back from a 10-point halftime deficit in the Gophers' 20-13 victory over Nebraska on Saturday. The Gophers (6-3, 3-3 Big Ten) beat the Cornhuskers for a fourth straight year and became bowl-eligible for the fourth time in coach P.J. Fleck's six seasons. Nebraska (3-6, 2-4) lost its third straight game. Kaliakmanis, who took over at the start of the third quarter after Tanner Morgan was injured on the final play of the first half, led the Gophers to scores on four of his first five possessions. Ibrahim's 3-yard run finished an 86-yard drive that tied it 10-10 and Matthew Trickett's 49-yard field goal gave the Gophers the lead. Ibrahim ran in from 3 yards after Terell Smith intercepted a Chubba Purdy pass to set up Minnesota at the Nebraska 33. The Huskers turned over the ball on downs near midfield on their final possession, and the Gophers ran out the clock.

Ibrahim, held to 18 yards on eight carries in the first half, went over 100 yards for a Bowl Subdivision-best 17th straight game. He finished with 32 carries, his third straight game with at least 30. Purdy made his first start in place of Casey Thompson, who was held out after injuring a nerve in his right (throwing) elbow against Illinois last week. The Huskers scored on their first two possessions, with Purdy running in from 2 yards and Timmy Bleekrode kicking a 24-yard field goal. The Huskers' next four possessions netted 25 yards and Purdy began alternating with Logan Smothers early in the third quarter. Minnesota could get nothing going in the first half against the worst defense in the Big Ten. The Huskers held the Gophers to their fewest rushing yards (minus-7 yards) and total yards (31) in a half under Fleck. They also recorded three sacks against a Minnesota offense that had given up a Big Ten-low seven through eight games. Morgan, injured when sacked by Ty Robinson, was knocked out of the Oct. 15 game at Illinois in the fourth quarter with a concussion and he missed the next game against Penn State before starting last week against Rutgers. - Minnesota/AP College Football

  10/29/22 - Mohamed IbrahimrSr/2023, Minnesota, 5-08, 203 (DS#22 RB) + More +

Mohamed Ibrahim rushed for 159 yards and three touchdowns on 36 carries to lead Minnesota past Rutgers 31-0 on Saturday to stop a three-game losing streak. Quarterback Tanner Morgan crisply returned from a concussion that kept him out of the previous game for the Gophers (5-3, 2-3 Big Ten), who enjoyed a 19-play, 99-yard drive on their first possession that drained 10:24 off the clock. They converted 13 of 19 third downs and were in full control on this sun-drenched 69-degree afternoon, turning the second half into a snoozer and giving coach P.J. Fleck a victory over his mentor and former boss Greg Schiano. The Gophers had the ball for 41:02. Minnesota's revived defense produced a punishing and unrelenting performance against a Scarlet Knights team missing leading rusher Samuel Brown V and still dealing with quarterback instability.

Gavin Wimsatt made his second career start, going 6 for 17 for 68 yards. He threw the first of two interceptions by Tyler Nubin at the Rutgers 33 early in the fourth quarter that set up Ibrahim's third score and put the game out of reach. That was Ibrahim's 46th career touchdown, breaking the all-time program record held by Darrell Thompson, who cheered the feat from his perch in the radio broadcast booth. Wimsatt was replaced by Noah Vedral, the sixth-year player who started the previous three games, when he took a shoulder-to-shoulder hit at the end of a run and had his head snap back hard against the turf midway through the fourth quarter. The Scarlet Knights (4-4, 1-4), who are chasing their first winning record since their inaugural Big Ten season, had just 134 total yards of offense in the type of game that got offensive coordinator Sean Gleeson fired earlier this month and replaced on an interim basis by Nunzio Campanile. - Minnesota/AP College Football

Domschke, who also missed kicks of 39 yards in the first quarter and 51 in the fourth, made a 52-yard field goal with 3:50 left in the second quarter and a 46-yarder as time in the first half expired to give Western Michigan (3-5, 2-2 Mid-American Conference) the lead for good at 6-3. Tyler scored on a 20-yard run that capped an 11-play, 80-yard drive and made it 13-3 midway through the third. Brett Gabbert completed 21 of 38 passes for 222 yards and his 9-yard touchdown run capped the scoring early in the fourth for the Redhawks.
