Sean Tyler scored on a 63-yard run, Keni-H Lovely returned an interception for a touchdown, and Western Michigan surprised Toledo 20-14 on Friday to wrap up the regular season. The Broncos (5-7, 4-4 Mid-American Conference) managed only 188 yards and eight first downs but got a big boost from their two explosive touchdowns. Palmer Domschke added two field goals for Western Michigan. With Toledo leading 7-0 midway through the second quarter, Lovely stepped in front of the intended receiver to intercept a Tucker Gleason pass and returned it 36 yards down the sideline for a touchdown.

Tyler scored on a long run in which he was barely touched, bursting through the line of scrimmage before outracing the secondary to the end zone. It was a key play in his bid for back-to-back 1,000-yard rushing seasons as he surpassed the 104 yards he needed and finished at 131 for the game, 1,027 for the season. Toledo (7-5, 5-3) suffered its second consecutive loss but had already clinched the West Division title and will play Ohio for the MAC championship on Dec. 3 in Detroit. Toledo had punted 10 times and had only one drive beyond the Western Michigan 40-yard line until Tucker Gleason connected with Devin Maddox for a 57-yard pass play with a little less than six minutes left in the fourth quarter. The big play helped set up Gleason's 17-yard touchdown pass to DeMeer Blankumsee with 5:11 remaining. Gleason scored Toledo's first touchdown on a 2-yard run early in the second quarter. Gleason was only 13-of-38 passing for 200 yards with the touchdown and interception. Toledo had four turnovers. Western Michigan punted 14 times. - Western Michigan/AP College Football

He had his sack in a win at Wofford and a fumble recovery in the win over Gardner-Webb. Jones also returned 20 punts for 178 yards during the regular season, including 71 yards on five punt returns against Vanderbilt in the season opener.   Sean Tyler ran for a career-best 177 yards and a touchdown on a career-high 26 carries, Andre Carter had two sacks - including a safety in the closing minutes - and Palmer Domschke kicked a 25-yard field goal with 1:52 to play as Western Michigan rallied to beat Central Michigan 12-10 Wednesday night. Trailing 10-7 with less than 6 minutes to play, Western Michigan's Nick Mihalic pinned the Chippewas deep in their own territory when his 44-yard punt gave Central Michigan the ball at the 6. After a short gain on first down, Carter stopped Bert Emanuel Jr. for a 1-yard loss on second and then sacked Emanuel in the end zone to trim Western Michigan's deficit to 10-9 with 3:57 to play.

The Broncos received the ensuing kickoff and went 57 yards in eight plays - including a 36-yard pass from Treyson Bourguet to Corey Crooms to convert a third-and-11 - to take the lead with Domschke's field goal. Keni-H Lovely picked off a pass a few plays later to seal it for Western Michigan (4-7, 3-4 Mid-American Conference). Carter finished with three tackles for losses and has 11 this season. Treyson Bourguet was 7-of-19 passing for 102 yards and added 57 yards rushing on 11 carries for the Broncos. Tyler, in the driving snow, took a hand off up the middle and raced 53 yards for a touchdown to open the scoring midway through the first quarter. On the next play from scrimmage, Emanuel took a shotgun snap, ran to his right, cut back to the middle of the field and raced 60 yards to make it 7-all just 19 seconds later. - Western Michigan/AP College Football

The Charlotte 49ers have named Michigan associate head coach Francis "Biff" Poggi as their head football coach. Poggi is set to replace Will Healy, who was fired earlier this season. Pete Rossomando has been serving as the interim coach and will finish out the season. Poggi inherits a team that has struggled in 2022, going 2-9 entering the season finale Saturday against Louisiana Tech. He will begin coaching the 49ers next season, but his duties with the school will begin following next week's introductory news conference. Poggi is Charlotte's third head football coach since the school's FBS football program started in 2015.

He helped Michigan to the 2021 Big Ten championship and a berth in the College Football Playoffs. This season, Michigan is 10-0 and ranked No. 3 in the country. "We are extremely fortunate to welcome Biff Poggi as our head football coach," Charlotte director of athletics Mike Hill said in a release. "He is a transformational leader and has a sterling reputation as a coach, having had phenomenal success at the highest levels of college and high school football." Prior to joining the Wolverines, Poggi led the high school football program at Saint Frances Academy in his hometown of Baltimore to national prominence. Several of his players landed scholarships with powerhouse schools such as Alabama, LSU, Notre Dame and Michigan. "Biff has been a tremendous asset to our program, providing support and mentorship to our coaching staff and players," Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh said. "He has a great football mind, knows how to prepare a team during the week and on game day, and is a coach that aims to change the lives of his players in a positive way. Biff is a trusted agent and known friend, and I know that his leadership and ability to develop a team-first culture will be a huge asset to the Charlotte 49ers." Poggi called joining the 49ers an incredible opportunity and said this is a "full circle" moment for him. - AP College Football

Mohamed Ibrahim rushed for 178 yards and three touchdowns and Minnesota's defense continued its dominance on Saturday as the Golden Gophers defeated Northwestern 31-3. Ibrahim, who carried the ball 36 times, extended his streak of consecutive 100-yard rushing games to 18, the longest in FBS since 2000. He also became the seventh player in Big Ten history with 50 career rushing touchdowns. The Gophers didn't ask freshman quarterback Athan Kaliakmanis, making his first home start in place of the injured Tanner Morgan, to do much. He was 7-for-13 passing for 64 yards and rushed four times for 28 yards. Kaliakmanis relieved Morgan at halftime of Minnesota's game at Nebraska on Nov. 5, rallying the Gophers from a 10-0 deficit to a 20-13 win.

The Gophers (7-3, 4-3 Big Ten) entered the game with the No. 4-scoring defense in the country, allowing just 14.2 points per game. That average dipped further after they kept the Wildcats (1-9, 1-6) out of the end zone for the first time all season. On the second play of the second half, Gophers defensive back Tyler Nubin intercepted a pass from backup quarterback Ryan Hilinski. Minnesota turned that into a 41-yard field goal by Matthew Trickett and a 17-3 lead. Ibrahim's 1-yard plunge on the first play of the fourth quarter made it 24-3. It was Ibrahim's 18th rushing touchdown of the season, tying the school record set by Gary Russell in 2005. The Wildcats crossed the 50-yard line just twice in the first half. Midway through the first, they advanced to the Gophers 16 before Jordan Howden and Terrell Smith teamed to stuff Evan Hull on fourth and 1. Later, the Gophers appeared poised to head into the locker room with a 14-0 halftime lead, as a punt pinned Northwestern at its own 7-yard line with 2:08 to play. But two passes later, the Wildcats were in field goal position. - Minnesota/AP College Football

Max Brosmer connected with DJ Linkins for a 26-yard touchdown pass with 17 seconds remaining, lifting New Hampshire to a 31-28 victory over Rhode Island on Saturday. The win keeps the Wildcats (7-3, 6-1) tied for first place in the Colonial Athletic Association. Kasim Hill drove Rhode Island 68 yards in 10 plays for the go-ahead score in the middle of the fourth quarter. Hill's 15-yard pass to Ed Lee gave the Rams (6-4, 4-3) a 28-24 lead with 7:07 remaining.

After an exchange of punts, Brosmer took his turn at a go-ahead drive. The Wildcats went 89 yards in 10 plays with Brosmer connecting with Linkins near the left corner of the end zone. Brosmer completed 31 of 43 passes for 316 yards with two touchdowns. Hill was 17-of-33 passing for 222 yards, also with two touchdowns. No. 21 New Hampshire is tied for first place with No. 8 William & Mary and No. 12 Richmond. The regular season wraps up on Saturday when New Hampshire visits Maine and William & Mary plays at Richmond. - New Hampshire/AP College Football
