In the second overtime, the transfer from San Diego State, got open over the middle and caught the nine-yard pass on third down to give the Lions its fourth win of the season. Of his eight catches, six went for a first down. Smith ranks fourth in the OVC in receptions/game (5.8) and fifth in receiving yards/game (77.0).   OCT 17 OVC FOOTBALL OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Cade Brister, QB, 6-0, 222, Sr., O'Fallon, Mo., Lindenwood,...Brister accounted for 381 yards of total offense and four touchdowns, including two in overtime, as Lindenwood topped Eastern Illinois 37-34 in double overtime in a game that counted as non-conference contest. Brister completed 28-of-42 passes for 302 yards and three touchdowns and carried the ball 27 times for 79 yards and a touchdown as Lindenwood improved to 4-2 on the season (with three of the wins coming on the road in its first season of Division I). Brister threw a 20-yard touchdown pass just before halftime to give the Lions a 14-10 advantage. His 1-yard touchdown run with 3:09 to play in regulation tied the game at 24. On the first possession of overtime he tossed a 2-yard touchdown, and on the second possession, he connected with Kobe Smith for a nine-yard score to win the game. It marked his fifth 300-yard passing game of the season. Brister leads the OVC in total offense (367.7 yards/game), passing offense (320.8 yards/game) and points responsible for (19.0/game). In addition to making all four of his PATs, Seibert hit a 27-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 17 and made a PAT with 3:09 to go in regulation to force the overtime.   SEPT 12 FEDEX GROUND FCS NATIONAL SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Andrew Martin, Lindenwood, RB/Coverage, Jr., 5-8, 178, Holden, Missouri,...Martin recovered a blocked punt in the Houston Baptist end zone with 28 seconds remaining to give Lindenwood a 21-20 road victory in its first game as an FCS program. The Lions trailed 20-15 when Jalen Bethany blocked the punt. Martin entered the game without a career TD, but he had two, first scoring on a four-yard run in the third quarter to pull the new Ohio Valley Conference member within 20-12. He finished with 49 rushing yards and had a special teams tackle.   Cade Brister hit Kobe Smith from 8 yards out in overtime to earn new Ohio Valley Conference member Lindenwood its first OVC victory, a 37-34 win over Eastern Illinois on Saturday. Brister scored from a yard out with 3:09 left in regulation to tie the game at 24-24 and force overtime, and hit Payton Rose with a 2-yard touchdown pass on the first possession of overtime. Jonah O'Brien answered with a 1-yard run, and on the first possession of the second round of overtime the Panthers kicked a 22-yard field goal. Brister completed 28 of 42 passes for 302 yards and three touchdowns, but was picked off twice. He added 79 yards and a score on 27 carries. The senior completed 18-of-32 passes for 377 yards and three touchdowns and rushed five times for 23 yards. In the process he set a new Lindenwood record for career touchdown passes (tallying his 71st in the first quarter). His passing scores went for 33, 11 and 78 yards.   SEPT 11 OVC CO-DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Tyrone Griffin, LB, 6-3, 208, So., Brownsburg, Ind., Lindenwood,...Griffin, a transfer from Indiana State, made nine tackles, including a sack, and tallied two pass breakups as Lindenwood came from behind to top Houston Baptist 21-20 in its OVC and Division I debut. Griffin recorded a half sack in the third quarter, just one play before the defense recovered a fumble. On back-to-back plays in the fourth quarter, he recorded another half sack and broke up a pass to force a field goal attempt which was missed from 45 yards out. Lindenwood would later block a punt and recovery it for a touchdown to win by one point. His field goals from 41 and 44 yards were the only points for the Lions in the first half. He then connected from 44 yards to pull the team to with five points early in the fourth quarter. The three makes were a new career-high for the sophomore. Seibert added six kickoffs for an average of 63.5 yards with a pair of touchbacks.   OCT 10 OVC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Cade Brister, QB, 6-0, 222, Sr., O'Fallon, Mo., Lindenwood,...Brister accounted for 475 yards of total offense and seven touchdowns as Lindenwood improved to 3-0 in non-conference action this season with a 52-49 win at Central Arkansas. The senior completed 26-of-40 passes for 413 yards and two touchdowns and carried the ball 20 times for 62 yards and five touchdowns (which tied the school record he had previously set). He threw a 15-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter and added a 14-yarder late in the second frame. On the ground he scored from 6, 1, 1, 1 and 1 yards, with his last score coming with 5:09 to play in the third quarter and giving the Lions a 49-42 advantage. Brister found nine different receivers in the game, as three different receivers hauled in five or more catches. Brister helped set up the Lions for the go-ahead field goal halfway through the fourth quarter, leading the team on a 5-play, 53-yard drive. Brister leads the OVC in total offense (365.0 yards/game) and has accounted for 15 touchdowns in five games (nine passing, 6 rushing).   Cade Brister accounted for seven touchdowns, Logan Seibert's 36-yard field goal was the only score in the fourth quarter, and Lindenwood beat Central Arkansas 52-49 on Saturday night. Seibert's game-winning kick came with 9:47 remaining in the game. Central Arkansas drove 71 yards in 13 plays to the Lindenwood 28 during its last possession, but the drive stalled with an incomplete pass on fourth-and-10. Cade Brister was 26-of-49 passing for 413 yards with a pair of touchdown passes and added 62 yards on the ground and five scoring runs.   2022 PRESEASON ALL-OHIO VALLEY FOOTBALL (COACHES): QB Cade Brister, Lindenwood,...Brister was named to the all-OVC offensive team, as he enters his final season with the Lions. The O'Fallon, Mo. native has his name all over the program's record book after 31 games as the starting quarterback. The Fort Zumwalt North product has thrown for nearly 8,000 yards and 70 touchdown in his career, while adding more than 1,400 yards and 20 scores on the ground. After winning the 2019 GLVC Offensive Player of the Year award, Brister was on track to have another successful season in 2021, before his year came to an end in week seven. Brister led the team in passing with 1,572 yards and 10 touchdowns on 138-for-195 passing, as he landed on the GLVC second team. The 6-0 senior racked up 317 yards on the ground, and used his feet to score seven touchdowns. - Lindenwood Football

Smith joins the Lions as a 6-2 wide receiver from Compton, Calif. Smith spent three seasons at San Diego State, where he hauled in 83 passes for 979 yards and six scores. Smith had his best season in 2019 when he compiled 691 yards and four touchdowns to lead the team.   2022 PRESEASON ALL-OHIO VALLEY FOOTBALL (COACHES): SAF Kai Ross, Lindenwood,...Ross earned attention from OVC schools, as he was recognized on the preseason defensive team as a safety. In 2021, Ross led the Lions with six interceptions, while adding two fumble recoveries. The 6-2 senior ranked third on the squad with 64 tackles, including 16 stops in the first round of the playoffs. Ross was a unanimous first-team all-GLVC selection, as he added one GLVC Defensive Player of the Week award when he snagged three interceptions in one game.   2019 ALL-GREAT LAKES VALLEY CONFERENCE FIRST TEAM (COACHES): Grady Daniels, Jr., DB, LWU,...Daniels flew around the field all season, racking up 96 tackles and breaking up six passes. Daniels came up big in the final home game of the regular season, posting 17 tackles and breaking up three passes in the 37-31 overtime victory.
