  10/12/25 - Garrett NussmeierrSr/2026, LSU, 6-1, 205 (DS#3 QB) + More +

Garrett Nussmeier passed for two touchdowns, LSU's defense contained South Carolina's LaNorris Sellers, and the 11th-ranked Tigers overcame three turnovers to defeat the Gamecocks 20-10 on Saturday night. The victory arguably should have been easier for LSU (5-1, 2-1 SEC), which twice lost the ball right at the South Carolina goal line. The first of Nussmeier's two interceptions also occurred on the Gamecocks' side of the field. Tight end Trey'Dez Green helped the Tigers overcome the mistakes by catching eight passes for 119 yards and a touchdown. Kyle Parker had five catches for 75 yards, highlighted by his 43-yard score on which he snagged a short slant pass in stride and ran away from everyone. LSU also rushed for a season-high 168 yards, led by Caden Durham's 70 yards on 15 carries. Damian Ramos' second field goal of the game all but sealed it with 1:46 left, capping a drive that started after LSU cornerback Mansoor Delane had broken up Sellers' fourth-down pass with 5:43 left.

Sellers passed for 124 yards, took five sacks and was intercepted once. He drove South Carolina (3-3, 1-3) into LSU territory six times, but four of those possessions produced no points. The first ended with a missed field goal, two ended with punts and the last with a turnover on downs. LSU was on the brink of taking a 10-0 lead early in the second quarter as running back Ju'Juan Johnson fought through tacklers to try to reach the goal line. But defensive tackle Monkell Goodwine dislodged the ball and edge rusher Bryan Thomas Jr. recovered in the end zone. Three plays later Matt Fuller, who entered the game with 71 yards rushing this season, broke loose for a 72-yard touchdown run to give the Gamecocks a 7-3 lead. The Tigers responded quickly, driving 72 yards in six plays for Green's leaping 6-yard touchdown catch on a fade pass. - AP College Football

  10/10/25 - Sam LeavittrSo/2028, LSU, 6-2, 205 (DS#5 QB) + More +

Arizona State quarterback Sam Leavitt is expected to miss the Sun Devils' road game against Utah on Saturday with an undisclosed injury. The No. 21 Sun Devils (4-1, 2-0 Big 12) have won three straight games while Utah (4-1, 1-1) had a lopsided win over West Virginia last weekend. "Sam's been battling something going back to Baylor - he fought through the TCU game," Sun Devils coach Kenny Dillingham told Arizona Sports 98.7 FM on Friday. "Sam does everything he possibly can to come back and play in football games. He's the ultimate competitor. "This week, it just didn't feel as good as we wanted it to leaving Wednesday's practice," Dillingham added. "I think this is the best thing for him and the future season." Leavitt has completed 63.1% of his passes this season for 1,039 yards, eight touchdowns and three interceptions. The sophomore has also run for 281 yards and five touchdowns. Jeff Sims is expected to get the start against Utah. The sixth-year player completed 12 of 23 passes for 155 yards in a start against Cincinnati last season. - AP College Football

Jesus Gomez kicked a 23-yard field goal with 1:14 left and Arizona State overcame a 17-point deficit to beat No. 24 TCU 27-24 on Friday night. The Sun Devils (4-1, 2-0 Big 12) were down 17-0 in the second quarter before rallying behind Sam Leavitt and Jordyn Tyson to pull out a second straight late win. "Every close of the game, it's incredible our guys find ways to get it done in the big moments," Arizona State coach Kenny Dillingham said. "It's a testament to the character of the guys were have on our team." Leavitt threw his second touchdown pass to Tyson, from 4 yards with 1:50 left in regulation, and Prince Dorbuh followed with a strip sack of TCU's Josh Hoover, setting up Arizona State at TCU's 15. Gomez, who missed two earlier field goals, split the uprights after the Sun Devils originally lined up to go for it on fourth-and-inches. Gomez also hit a 43-yard field goal as time expired in Arizona State's 27-24 victory over Baylor last week. Arizona State's Martell Hughes sealed it with the second interception of Hoover.

Leavitt threw for 278 yards and two touchdowns on 26-of-38 passing, connecting with Tyson eight times for 126 yards. Raleek Brown ran for 147 yards. "Down 17-0, things just weren't going our way," Leavitt said. "We're a really tough team and we just compete." TCU (3-1, 0-1) had its chances. The Horned Frogs let the early lead slip away, but went up 24-17 on Hoover's 1-yard sneak early in the fourth quarter and stopped Arizona State twice from inside their own 5. TCU couldn't pull it off, plagued by three turnovers, six sacks and an anemic rushing game that produced 10 yards on 25 carries. "We just kept shooting ourselves in the foot," TCU coach Sonny Dykes said. Heavy afternoon storms soaked the field and strong wind lingered well past kickoff. It did little to slow down the Horned Frogs early. TCU took advantage of a short field for Trent Battle's 13-yard touchdown run and Jeremy Payne scored on a 7-yard run. The Horned Frogs then stopped a fourth-and-2 to force a turnover on downs at Arizona State's 38, leading to a field goal that put them up 17-0. Leavitt and Tyson sparked the Sun Devils. - Arizona State/AP College Football

Jesus Gomez kicked a 43-yard field goal on the game's final play to give defending Big 12 champion Arizona State a 27-24 win over Baylor on Saturday night in the conference opener for both teams. It was the fourth field goal of the game for Gomez, a left-footed senior transfer from Eastern Michigan. He also made kicks of 31, 21 and 33 yards, and is 9-of-10 for the Sun Devils (3-1, 1-0 Big 12). Sam Leavitt completed 22 of 32 passes for 221 yards and a touchdown. He also ran for a score for Arizona State. Baylor (2-2, 0-1) tied the game 24-24 with 1:52 left on Sawyer Robertson's 33-yard TD strike to Ole Miss transfer Michael Trigg, whose 1-yard catch and stretch for a touchdown had put the Bears up 17-16 with 9:02 left.

The Sun Devils responded to Trigg's second TD with an 11-play scoring drive, and Gomez booted the go-ahead kick right down the middle as time expired. Arizona State moved the ball into Baylor territory on its game-winning drive after a personal foul penalty followed a 3-yard completion from Leavitt to preseason All-America receiver Jordyn Tyson. Tyson caught the third-down pass in stride and slid to the ground just before Bears defensive back DJ Coleman ran into him. Robertson was 25 of 39 passing for 251 yards and three TDs. Bryson Washington ran 17 times for 111 yards for Baylor. - Arizona State/AP College Football

  09/20/25 - Garrett NussmeierrSr/2026, LSU, 6-1, 205 (DS#3 QB) + More +

Garrett Nussmeier threw three touchdown passes and ran for a fourth and No. 3 LSU easily beat Southeastern Louisiana 56-10 on Saturday night. The Tigers (4-0) erupted for 28 points in the second quarter to put the game quickly out of reach in only the third meeting between the schools. "We have a standard of how we want to play and I thought we upheld that standard," LSU coach Brian Kelly said. "There is no perfection out there, but there was definitely some progress." Up by a touchdown early in the second quarter, LSU scored on back-to-back drives, on scoring runs of 2 and 10 yards by running back Ju'Juan Johnson.

LSU's defense, which held the Lions (2-2) to 30 yards of total offense in the first half, forced a three and out late in the second quarter. Nussmeier then drove the offense down the field, completing passes to Bauer Sharp for 6 yards and a pair to Barion Brown including a 17 yarder for a touchdown and a 28-0 lead. LSU finished the first half with an 8-play, 56-yard drive, culminating in a 9-yard touchdown pass from Nussmeier to Zavion Thomas, extending the lead to 35-0. Nussmeier, who Kelly said has been dealing with a torso injury early in the season, finished 25 of 31 for 273 yards before exiting after throwing a 23-yard touchdown pass to Sharp on the opening series of the third quarter. With most of the LSU starting defense on the sidelines to start the second half, Southeastern Louisiana's lone TD came midway through the third quarter on a 14-yard pass by Carson Camp to Deantre Jackson. - LSU/AP College Football

LSU coach Brian Kelly said quarterback Garrett Nussmeier is dealing with a torso injury and probably won't be fully recovered until he can rest during the Tigers' bye week later this month. Kelly said Nussmeier developed the injury from throwing so much in preseason camp, and that LSU's trainers are limiting his work in practice as he recovers. "He's been slowed a little bit with a torso injury, and he's fighting through it, and he's getting better," Kelly told reporters Monday. "He's not going to be able to shut it down until the bye week."

The third-ranked Tigers host FCS program Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday (7:45 p.m. ET, SEC Network) and play at No. 13 Ole Miss on Sept. 27 before their first open date of the season. "Come Saturday, he's good to go," Kelly said. "We've limited him a little bit during the week because of the tightness he's had in his torso. It's an upper-body injury, and you want to be careful with how many reps he's getting throwing the football. He's overcoming that, but we kept cut him down substantially." Kelly said he believes Nussmeier is on the "other side" of the injury. Nussmeier, who is considered a potential first-round pick in next year's NFL draft, is completing 65.1% of his attempts for 689 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions. He ranks ninth in the SEC with 229.7 yards per game. In early August, Kelly revealed that Nussmeier was dealing with patellar tendinitis in his knee. Nussmeier ranked fifth nationally in passing yards (4,052) last season, his first as LSU's starter. - ESPN College Football

LSU star linebacker Whit Weeks was ejected from the third-ranked Tigers' game against Florida on Saturday night for targeting after a helmet-to-helmet hit on Florida receiver Vernell Brown III. The hit by the preseason All-America selection and team captain came at the end of 6-yard catch on Florida's third-play from scrimmage. The penalty gave Florida a first down on the LSU 29, and the Gators finished the drive with a field goal to open the scoring. In LSU's previous two games, Weeks made seven tackles, including half a sack and one tackle for loss.
