  04/29/20 - *Dare Rosenthal, rJr/2022, Kentucky, 6-7, 290 (DS#14 OT) + More +

One of the biggest question marks for LSU heading toward a question-filled 2020 football season is an offensive line that lost four starters from last season's national championship unit. Compounding those questions was the fact projected starting left tackle Dare Rosenthal left school during the spring semester and did not participate in the handful of spring practice days the Tigers had before breaking camp because of the coronavirus pandemic. Speaking Monday night on the "Off the Bench" radio show on 104.5 WNXX-FM, LSU coach Ed Orgeron said Rosenthal has worked through his "off the field problems," indicating he expects he will be available whenever the Tigers begin preparing for the coming season, though with a qualifier.

"He's gotten that straight," Orgeron said. "I'm confident of that for now. Talking to (offensive line) coach (James) Cregg, he's been a leader in these Zoom (video conference) meetings. He's working out." Rosenthal moved from defensive to offensive line in 2018. During LSU's bowl practices, Orgeron said Rosenthal came into his own. "These bowl practices are really good for young players," Coach O said. "That's where you see the next guy up start to step up. Dare Rosenthal was kicking butt every day, grabbing people and throwing them to the ground. I think he will be a great left tackle." - Baton Rouge Advocate

  04/28/20 - Landon Young, Sr/2021, Kentucky, 6-6, 310 (DS#13 OT) + More +

Landon Young contemplated entering this year's draft, and likely would have been a late-round selection. He bet on himself and will return as a senior hoping to bolster his stock. The 6-foot-7 offensive tackle out of Lafayette High School, who started every game last year after missing all of 2018 with a knee injury, should have no problem following former high school teammate Jedrick Wills into the league next season. - Herald Leader

  04/25/20 - Logan Stenberg, rSr/2020, Kentucky, 6-6, 317 (DS#8 OG) + More +

Kentucky football offensive guard Logan Stenberg had to wait until day three to hear his name called in the NFL draft. He did not have to wait long once the fourth round of the draft started Saturday afternoon though. The Detroit Lions selected Stenberg midway through the fourth round at No. 15 overall. Stenberg is the second UK player drafted, joining Lynn Bowden who was picked by the Las Vegas Raiders in the third round Friday night. He was the sixth offensive guard taken in the draft. Stenberg started the final 39 games of his UK career at left guard and was frequently pointed to as a source of energy on the offensive line that paved the way for Kentucky's vaunted rushing attack the last three years.

As a senior, Stenberg helped pave the way for a school-record 3,859 yards. "I think Logan is a guy that's going to play a long time," UK coach Mark Stoops said earlier this week on the "Behind Kentucky Football" podcast. "They know exactly what they're going to get with Logan. He is one heck of a football player. He's big, he's strong, he's physical, he plays extremely nasty. There are going to be a lot of teams that want him in their program. … He's going to play a long time." - Courier Journal

  04/15/20 - Devin Leary, rSr/2024, Kentucky, 6-1, 215 (DS#15 QB) + More +

N.C. state football coach Dave Doeren had to cut spring practice short last month when the COVID-19 pandemic shut down spring sports. Since then, he has spent most of his days on Zoom, meeting with coaches and players, checking up on their progress away from the Murphy Center as best he can. The lost practice time has been a blow for a Wolfpack team that went 4-8 last season and has welcomed five new assistant coaches this spring. N.C. State cycled through three quarterbacks in 2019 before settling on Devin Leary at the end of the season and without a spring camp to show otherwise, Doeren said the job is his to lose whenever fall begins. "Devin will be our starter," Doeren said. "I know he's excited about the opportunity to grow from where he was." Leary played in eight games last season, passing for 1, 219 yards and eight touchdowns. Bailey Hockman (546 yards, 1 TD) also saw action in seven games. Ben Finley, younger brother of former N.C. State quarterback Ryan Finley, enrolled early. "I was excited about the progress (Bailey) was making," Doeren said. "Then you have two young guys, Ben and Ty (Evans) who are just trying to learn the offense. Really, you have two guys who have played significant reps that we are counting on, and two young guys we want to see get better. I like where we're at, we just need the opportunity to coach them now." - Raleigh News Observer

  03/28/20 - Max Duffy, Sr/2021, Kentucky, 6-1, 196 (DS#2 P) + More +

Coaches in the University of Kentucky athletic department have not openly discussed the notion of giving back some of their salary to the school, but it has "certainly" crossed the mind of football head coach Mark Stoops. "I'm prepared to give back," Stoops told reporters during a video teleconference Friday morning. It was his first availability to the media since the Southeastern Conference canceled its spring sports season as part of efforts to limit the spread of COVID-19, or the coronavirus. "Chantel (Stoops' wife) and I have been active in this community for a long time, and it's really important for us to give back right now," Stoops said. "But it's also important we give back to the university if need be. We haven't talked about that."

It's probably too early right now, Stoops said, for UK's administration to determine the impact the pandemic will have on the next academic year, which begins in August. The NCAA announced Thursday that its annual distribution to Division I schools would be $225 million, down from the $600 million total it had budgeted prior to COVID-19 disrupting its winter championships and spring sports seasons. Most of the NCAA's revenue comes from TV and marketing rights from the men's basketball tournament. The Southeastern Conference in January evenly distributed about $651 million to its 14 member schools, a figure that included NCAA Tournament revenues from 2018 as well as money generated by the College Football Playoff and league championship events. - Herald Leader

  03/04/20 - Landon Young, Sr/2021, Kentucky, 6-6, 310 (DS#13 OT) + More +

Landon Young has lined up against some of the fiercest defenders in the Southeastern Conference. Any nervousness he's ever felt on the football field pales in comparison to the butterflies in his gut on Saturday. Young proposed to his longtime girlfriend, Haleigh Johnson, during a trip to Gatlinburg, Tenn., with his parents and her parents over the weekend. It left the 6-foot-7, 321-pound offensive tackle winded. "I'd rather go out and play 100 games than do that again," Young said with a laugh.

It was the latest major life decision made by Young in as many months. In January, soon after Kentucky's 37-30 win over Virginia Tech in the Belk Bowl, he weighed leaving UK for the 2020 NFL Draft. Young might have been selected in the latter stages of this year's draft, but he decided to use his fifth year of eligibility in Lexington after extensive conversations with his parents, coaches, past and present NFL players and other folks who've had a significant influence on his life. "At the end of the day I said, 'God, if you can, I'm not good at this subtle hints thing, like my girlfriend tries to do to me, fiancée now,'" Young said with a laugh. "'I said if this is what you want from me, make it evident in my mind.' And He definitely did. It just always rang that this year was not my year to go to the draft, but next year it will be." - Herald Leader

  03/04/20 - *Dare Rosenthal, rJr/2022, Kentucky, 6-7, 290 (DS#14 OT) + More +

Redshirt freshman Dare Rosenthal, who's expected to start at left tackle for LSU next season, will not participate in spring football practice. Rosenthal has left school for "personal reasons," coach Ed Orgeron said on Wednesday, but LSU expects him to return this summer. As starting left tackle Saahdiq Charles moved in-and-out of the lineup last season, Rosenthal played in five games at left tackle, starting three of them. He played 229 total snaps. "I think Dare's going to be an excellent left tackle," Orgeron said. "He's going to play in the NFL. But he's not going to be with us this spring." Without Rosenthal, LSU will use redshirt freshman Cameron Wire at left tackle during spring practice. - New Orleans Times Picayune

  01/01/20 - Devin Leary, rSr/2024, Kentucky, 6-1, 215 (DS#15 QB) + More +

North Carolina State has hired Tim Beck as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, completing a revamp of Dave Doeren's coaching staff after a four-win season. Beck had spent the past three seasons as offensive coordinator at Texas, though he was demoted from coordinator as part of a staff shakeup there after the regular-season finale and before the Longhorns' Alamo Bowl victory over Utah. He was quarterbacks coach for that game. Beck and Doeren coached together at Kansas in 2005, with Doeren saying in a statement that he has known Beck for more than two decades. "He will take our offense and build it around the strengths of our personnel," Doeren said. "It will be versatile, aggressive, and player-friendly." Beck had also worked at Ohio State and Nebraska in the past decade. Athletics spokesman Fred Demarest said Beck is set to make $700,000 annually for two years with the Wolfpack. - AP College Football

  12/12/19 - Landon Young, Sr/2021, Kentucky, 6-6, 310 (DS#13 OT) + More +

Allstate and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) are proud to announce University of Kentucky offensive tackle Landon Young as the 2019 AFCA Good Works Team captain. Young was one of 22 college football players named to the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team earlier this season in recognition for his commitment to giving back off the field. Allstate encouraged college football fans to vote for the player they found most deserving of the team captain title and Young rose to the top. Young gives back to the local veterinary clinic, visits with nursing home residents, volunteers at Lexington's Hope Center and assists with yard work for local church members.

In May of 2019, he traveled to Ethiopia and worked in orphanages, distributing care packages and mentoring the youth in the community. "Hearing stories like Landon's remind us of all that is good in this sport, and Allstate is proud to highlight his story on the prominent platform it deserves," said John O'Donnell, president of Allstate's Western Territory. "It has been incredible to watch the college football community rally around the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team each season and embrace these outstanding young men." In September, Young was surprised with his Allstate AFCA Good Works Team trophy during a regularly scheduled visit with the residents at Cambridge Place Nursing Home. Young is Kentucky's fifteenth player to be named to the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team and the school's first to be named Good Works Team captain in the history of the program. - American Football Coaches Association

He's the first winner of this award in school history. Bowden etched his name into program lore this season after injuries at quarterback forced him to return to the position for the first time since high school. All the junior did was set a school record for career and single-season rushing yards by a quarterback, break the Southeastern Conference's single-game rushing mark by a quarterback, turn in the second-highest single-game rushing total in UK history, highest single-season yards per rush attempt average and deliver at least 100 rushing yards in six of his seven starts at quarterback (and miss a seventh by a single yard vs. Georgia).
