  10/22/20 - Quinton Bohanna, Sr/2021, Kentucky, 6-4, 327 (DS#19 DT) + More +

Kentucky will be without senior nose guard Quinton Bohanna in Saturday's trip to Missouri. "Quinton will be out for a bit," Kentucky coach Mark Stoops said Monday. "Nothing major, thank goodness for him and for us. I'm not sure how long that will be, but he will be out this week." Bohanna, a likely NFL draft prospect and key anchor to UK's front seven, suffered a knee injury shortly before halftime of Kentucky's 34-7 win over Tennessee. SEC Network cameras showed him in considerable pain on the field after the play, and he had to be helped by trainers to limp to the sideline. Bohanna was then taken to the locker room on a cart. After the game, Bohanna tweeted, "I'm good ima be back."

Bohanna's injury came one week after he forced two interceptions by pressuring Mississippi State's quarterbacks. "We wouldn't say he's a finished product, but every day he works," UK defensive coordinator Brad White said of Bohanna on Wednesday. "He's been getting better throughout the season. It happened to sort of culminate on Saturday for everybody to see, but he's had some really, really solid rushes throughout the first two weeks." On the season, Bohanna has been credited with five tackles, one tackle for loss and one pass breakup, but his ability to take up multiple blockers at 6-foot-4, 357 pounds often brings benefits not evident in the box score. - Courier Journal

  10/18/20 - Devin Leary, rSr/2024, Kentucky, 6-1, 215 (DS#15 QB) + More +

Starting quarterback Devin Leary could miss the rest of the regular season for No. 23 North Carolina State after having surgery Sunday for a leg injury suffered in a win against Duke. In a post on the program's Twitter account, the school said Leary had surgery a day after breaking the fibula bone in his left leg. He is expected to miss four to eight weeks. N.C. State (4-1, 4-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) is halfway through its league schedule, with a nonconference game against Liberty and an open week still ahead. Entering the Duke game, Leary had won two consecutive road games since retaking his starting job lost due to missed preseason workouts from COVID-19 contact tracing. But he was knocked from Saturday's game after taking a hard hit on a keeper from Duke's Lummie Young IV - who was ejected for targeting - and Leary's leg bent awkwardly beneath him.

He offered a thumbs-up while being carted off with 55 seconds left in the third quarter. He later returned to the sideline on crutches and wearing a protective boot. Bailey Hockman, who started the first two games, played in relief of Leary. N.C. State, which entered the AP Top 25 on Sunday, visits rival North Carolina next Saturday. The 14th-ranked Tar Heels fell nine spots after Saturday night's loss at unranked Florida State. It will be the first meeting with both teams ranked in the poll since 1993. - AP College Football

  10/18/20 - Quinton Bohanna, Sr/2021, Kentucky, 6-4, 327 (DS#19 DT) + More +

UK closed out the win without senior nose guard Quinton Bohanna, who was sidelined with a knee injury just before halftime. SEC Network cameras showed him in considerable pain on the field after the play, and he had to be helped by trainers to limp to the sideline. Bohanna was then taken to the locker room on a cart. After the game, Bohanna tweeted he was OK, and Davis said he thought his teammate was fine. His injury came one week after Bohanna forced two interceptions by pressuring Mississippi State's quarterbacks. "We wouldn't say he's a finished product, but every day he works," UK defensive coordinator Brad White said of Bohanna on Wednesday. "He's been getting better throughout the season. It happened to sort of culminate on Saturday for everybody to see, but he's had some really, really solid rushes throughout the first two weeks."

On the season, Bohanna has been credited with four tackles, one-half tackle for loss and one pass breakup, but his ability to take up multiple blockers at 6-foot-4, 357 pounds often brings benefits not evident in the box score. "So many people, they go right to the stat sheet," White said. "It's the effect he has on the quarterback, the effect those guys up front have on the vision points for the quarterback. If you can put a big body in a pass lane, you can put a big paw up...Really pleased with his progression and the fact that he's owned up to sort of his deficiencies (in the pass rush) and known in the past that we needed more in that area. "The other thing that's probably not being talked enough about is his conditioning and how many snaps he can play at full speed and still get out of the stack. He runs and he hustles. It's been impressive." - Courier Journal

  10/17/20 - Devin Leary, rSr/2024, Kentucky, 6-1, 215 (DS#15 QB) + More +

Leary's injury comes after he had won two straight road games since retaking his starting job lost due to missed preseason workouts from contact tracing. He took a hard hit on a keeper from Duke's Lummie Young IV - who was ejected for targeting - and Leary's leg bent awkwardly beneath him with 55 seconds left in the third. He offered thumbs-up while being carted off, then later returned to the sideline on crutches and wearing a protective boot. Doeren didn't offer specifics on Leary's injury, saying: "It doesn't look like we'll have him for a while." - AP College Football

  10/17/20 - *Kelvin Joseph, rSo/2021, Kentucky, 6-0, 197 (DS#6 CB) + More +

Kelvin Joseph and Jami Davis returned interceptions for touchdowns in the first half and Kentucky shut out No. 18 Tennessee in the second half to bury the Volunteers 34-7 Saturday. It was Kentucky's first win in Neyland Stadium since 1984, the Wildcats' largest margin of victory in Knoxville since 56-0 in 1893 and their most lopsided victory in the series since 1935. After getting six interceptions and allowing only a safety against Mississippi State last week, Kentucky (2-2) picked off three passes against the Vols (2-2). Tennessee has now followed up an eight-game winning streak with a two-game losing streak. Joseph's 41-yard touchdown and Davis' 85-yard return - both off interceptions thrown by Jarrett Guarantano - helped put Kentucky up 17-0 in the second quarter. With about 5 minutes left in the third quarter and trailing by 20, Tennessee went three-and-out for a second consecutive possession and was showered with boos from the sparse crowd of 22,519. Earlier in the season, Kentucky had shown signs of having difficulty recovering from adversity. Against Ole Miss, a missed field goal was followed by 21 straight Ole Miss points and a 42-41 loss. Kentucky seemed to solve that Saturday. - Kentucky/AP College Football

  10/15/20 - Josh Paschal, rSr/2022, Kentucky, 6-3, 270 (DS#9 DE) + More +

Kentucky coach Mark Stoops expects junior defensive end Josh Paschal to be available for the Wildcats' game at Tennessee on Saturday. "He's day to day," Stoops said at his Monday news conference. "He'll be out there at some point this week. We'll be glad to have him back when he's ready. Nothing major there." Paschal did not play in the second half against Mississippi State after suffering a knee injury shortly before halftime. Before the injury, Paschal grabbed his first career interception and returned it 76 yards to set up a 2-yard touchdown run from UK running back Chris Rodriguez. On the season, Paschal, who moved from outside linebacker to defensive end during the offseason, has totaled 12 tackles, two tackles for loss and one interception. "The first two games he was our defensive player of the week, so that tells you what we think of him and the way he's playing," Stoops said after UK's 24-2 win over Mississippi State. "He's done some really good things. He's been disruptive all year." - Courier Journal

  10/13/20 - Max Duffy, Sr/2021, Kentucky, 6-1, 196 (DS#2 P) + More +

UK's Max Duffy, the 2019 Ray Guy Award winner as college football's best punter, was excellent as normal. He averaged 44.9 yards per punt on eight punts, downing three inside the opponents' 20-yard line. He booted three punts of at least 50 yards. Mississippi State punter Tucker Day might have been even better though, averaging 59.6 yards on five punts. Day had three punts of at least 60 yards, two of which were downed inside the UK 15-yard line. Bulldogs No. 2 punter Reed Bowman even contributed a 33-yard punt from midfield that was downed at the Kentucky 13-yard line.

Mississippi State's lone points actually came off a punting miscue with a bad snap from Kentucky long snapper Cade Degraw that Duffy was forced to kick out of the back of the end zone, resulting in a 48-yard loss and a safety. Duffy bounced back from that play by flipping the field with a 75-yard free kick. "He takes great pride in what he has to do," Stoops said of Duffy. "If everybody in your organization took the pride in his job like he does, you'd be really good. He really cares. He cares about his teammates. He cares about bailing us out when we're backed up. He loves that." - Courier Journal

  10/12/20 - Max Duffy, Sr/2021, Kentucky, 6-1, 196 (DS#2 P) + More +

OCT 12 SEC SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Max Duffy, P, Kentucky,...Made a huge impact in Kentucky's 24-2 win over Mississippi State...Placed three punts that were downed at the MSU 5, 11 and 2 yard lines...In the third quarter, a high punt snap sailed over his head into the UK end zone; instead of picking up the ball and running with it (which would have likely given MSU the ball near the UK goal line), he alertly booted the ball out of the end zone, giving up a safety instead of a possible touchdown...On the ensuing free kick, he flipped the field by launching a 75-yard rocket that was returned only 11 yards, a net of 64 yards that had MSU starting at its own 16-yard line...For the game, he averaged 44.9 yards on eight punts, a solid average despite having to kick three punts on short fields (note that the 75-yard free kick did not count in his punting average). - SEC Football

OCT 12 SEC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Jordan Wright, LB, Kentucky,...Key part of the Kentucky defense that held Mississippi State without an offensive score in UK's 24-2 win...Game totals featured a pass interception returned for a touchdown; six tackles; two tackles for loss (-9 yards), including a quarterback sack; and a pass breakup...With UK ahead 14-2 in the fourth quarter, his pick-six clinched the win for the Wildcats...His five-yard tackle for loss in the first quarter helped push MSU back, preceding a 56-yard missed field goal...Had a tackle for no gain on a 3rd-and-1 play in the third quarter...Added a four-yard sack in the fourth quarter. - SEC Football

  10/10/20 - Devin Leary, rSr/2024, Kentucky, 6-1, 215 (DS#15 QB) + More +

Devin Leary got North Carolina State off to a fast start with two first-quarter touchdown passes and the Wolfpack's defense forced four turnovers and blocked a punt in a 38-21 victory against Virginia on Saturday. Zonovan Knight ran for 101 yards and two scores, leading a balanced offense that picked up 179 yards on the ground and 184 through the air. Leary hit Trent Pennix with a 5-yard scoring pass and Cary Angeline with a 32-yarder as the Wolfpack (3-1, 3-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) built a 24-0 lead in the first half. Knight scored on runs of 35 and 2 yards, the latter score cementing the victory with 1:49 to play. The meeting was just the second between the teams since 2012 and the Cavaliers (1-2, 1-2) proved generous hosts. They threw three interceptions, lost a fumble and had a punt blocked. Alim McNeill returned one of the interceptions 18 yards for a touchdown. Leary was 11 for 25 for 184 yards and one interception. Virginia also lost quarterback Brennan Armstrong to an injury late in the first half and turned to seldom-used senior Lindell Stone, who finished 30 of 53 for 240 yards. - North Carolina State/AP College Football

  10/08/20 - Devin Leary, rSr/2024, Kentucky, 6-1, 215 (DS#15 QB) + More +

Leary wasn't just throwing lasers, but he was getting rid of the ball quickly, spreading it around, keeping Pittsburgh at bay. It was the kind of command that Wolfpack fans expect at that position, alongside the likes of Phillip Rivers, Russell Wilson, Mike Glennon, Ryan Finley and Jacoby Brissett, all former N.C. State quarterbacks on NFL rosters. "He's always had it," Emezie said about Leary. It is the arm talent, but it's also the mental part of the game. Take the game-winning score for example. Emezie said that wasn't even the play drawn up, but Leary saw something in the defense he liked, told the coaches and they went with it. "Coach having faith in him, him having faith in me," Emezie said. "That was just a blessing right there. He's so confident in himself, he's just a confident player." - Raleigh News Observer

  10/07/20 - Devin Leary, rSr/2024, Kentucky, 6-1, 215 (DS#15 QB) + More +

N.C. State went on the road and won an ACC game for the first time since 2018, 30-29 over Pittsburgh, behind a big day from quarterback Devin Leary. The Wolfpack trailed by five with 1:44 remaining and went 80 yards to shock No. 24 Pittsburgh. It was Dave Doeren's first win over a ranked opponent since the 2017 season. N.C. State (2-1, 2-1) also snapped a six-game road losing streak. The Wolfpack jumped out to a 10-point lead and trailed late, but Leary saved the day with his heroics on the final drive. Leary threw four touchdown passes, including a dime to Emeka Emezie with 23 seconds remaining in the game in his first start. He finished with 336 yards and was 6 of 8 on the last drive, taking the team 80 yards with 1:44 remaining. Leary led the team to three straight scoring drives to start the game. - Raleigh News Observer

  10/05/20 - Asim Rose, rSr/2021, Kentucky, 6-1, 215 (DS#32 RB) + More +

Rose opened the game with a 72-yard carry on Kentucky's first offensive play, but he was brought down from behind short of the end zone after he appeared to slow while celebrating his impending score. Two plays later, Rose lost a fumble while trying to extend over a pile into the end zone. "We will certainly point out and show him, and he understands that, that it's not acceptable," Stoops said. "That's not how we do things. That's not how we're going to do it." The embarrassing sequence could have easily relegated Rose to the bench for the rest of the game, especially considering UK's other talent at running back, but he was back in the huddle just two drives later and rewarded offensive coordinator Eddie Gran's loyalty with 20 yards on two carries, including a 2-yard touchdown earned with an extra effort to fight through tacklers. Rose, a fifth-year senior, has to know better than to make a mistake like celebrating too early, but he showed why UK coaches have raved about his progress with the way he responded. "It definitely has an impact," Stoops said. "It definitely is not the right message. It's not OK, but I'm not going to give up on him for one mistake." - Courier Journal
