  05/18/20 - Juan WallacerSr/2023, Kent State, 6-1, 215 (DS#999 OLB) + More +

Syracuse football linebacker Juan Wallace has entered the transfer portal, he announced on Monday. Wallace, a 6-foot-2, 227-pound redshirt sophomore, appeared in 24 games over the last two seasons, primarily on special teams. He logged eight tackles in that span, including seven last year to go with a pass break-up. Wallace came to Central New York from H.D. Woodson High School in Washington, D.C. He initially picked the Orange over other finalists Duke and Maryland before Georgia courted him late in the process. This fall, Wallace was expected to be one of many SU linebackers competing for playing time in first-year defensive coordinator Tony White's 3-3-5 system. Syracuse has graduated its starting 'backers for a third year in a row, leaving a group with few proven entities. - The Post-Standard

Kent State football players, as coach Sean Lewis said Thursday, haven't been able to call themselves winners for seven years. On Friday night, the Golden Flashes not only became winners but also achieved something that no other team in school history could claim - a bowl victory. Dustin Crum passed for 289 yards and two touchdowns and ran for a career-high 147 yards and the clinching score to help Kent State beat Utah State 51-41 in the Frisco Bowl. "I'm just so happy for the university," said Crum, who also was Kent State's leading rusher during the season. "We weren't supposed to be here, but here we are." Kent State (7-6) closed with four straight wins to finish with a winning record for the first time since 2012. "I love these boys," said second-year coach Lewis, whose first Kent State team finished 2-10. "Just tremendous resolve by them. It was a testament to their character." Matthew Trickett kicked five field goals to set a Kent State game record. - AP College Football
