  Dustin Crum scored from the 1 on a misdirection play in overtime, and Montre Miller broke up a two-point conversion pass as Kent State held off Miami (Ohio) 48-47 on Saturday to earn a spot in the Mid-American Conference championship game. The win, played in swirling snow flurries, lofted Kent State (7-5, 6-2) to the MAC East title and set up a tilt against West champion, Northern Illinois, Saturday in Detroit for the conference crown.

Crum threw for 325 yards and two touchdowns, Keshunn Abram had seven catches for 138 yards and a TD. Xavier Williams carried 13 times for 168 yards and two scores, Marquez Cooper added 128 yards rushing and a touchdown. Brett Gabbert threw for 405 yards and four touchdowns for the RedHawks (6-6, 5-3) and lofted a pretty rainbow to Jalen Walker at the front of the end zone on Miami's first play of overtime.   Dustin Crum ran for 114 yards and two touchdowns and Kent State defeated Akron 38-0 on Saturday. The win for the Golden Flashes (6-5, 5-2) sets up a home showdown with Miami (Ohio), also 5-2, for the Mid-American Conference East title in a regular-season final next Saturday. Crum had 104 yards and his two rushing scores by halftime. He ran for a pair of 10-yard touchdowns and Bryan Bradford added a 29-yarder in the second quarter when the Golden Flashes scored 22 points to lead 29-0. Marquez Cooper had 25 carries for 135 yards and a score for Kent State, which came into the game with the MAC's top offense, averaging 37 points per game and nearly 500 yards offense.   Dustin Crum passed for two touchdowns and rushed for two scores, and Kent State used a 31-point second quarter to beat Northern Illinois 52-47 on Wednesday night. Kent State ended a 10-game losing streak in the series, getting its first win against Northern Illinois since 2001. Northern Illinois led 7-0 after the first quarter but Kent State had four straight touchdown scoring drives in the second quarter, each taking less than 75 seconds, to build a 31-21 lead at the break. The Golden Flash finished with seven touchdowns, the drives averaging 1:12.

Nykeim Johnson added a rushing and receiving touchdown in the third quarter for a 45-27 lead, and Marquez Cooper's 36-yard touchdown made it 52-40. Following NIU's TD to get within five points, Kent State chewed up the final 5:07 for its longest drive of the game. Crum was 20 of 30 for 322 yards, and carried it four times for 72 yards for Kent State (5-4, 4-1 Mid-American Conference). Cooper finished with 173 yards rushing and two scores, and Xavier Williams ran for 103. Dante Cephas had five catches for 124 yards. Rocky Lombardi and Trayvon Rudolph each set program records for Northern Illinois (6-3, 4-1). Rudolph, who scored a 75-yard touchdown for a second straight week, had 309 yards receiving to pass Sam Hurd's 266 in 2005.   Dustin Crum threw for one touchdown and ran for another and Kent State turned back Ohio 34-27 on Saturday. The Golden Flashes (4-4, 3-1 Mid-American Conference) clinched the game when Andrew Glass kicked a 27-yard field goal that capped an 11-play, 65-yard drive with 3:04 left. The Bobcats (1-7, 1-3) responded with a drive that got to the Kent State 1 but ended up settling for a field goal with 47 seconds to play. The Golden Flashes recovered the onside kick. Crum was 26-of-31 passing for 257 yards and gained 93 on the ground on 17 attempts. Dante Cephas had nine receptions for 103 yards. Crum and Cephas connected for 33 yards to open the scoring and Crum's 4-touchdown yard run made it 17-7 at halftime. The Golden Flashes had two 74-yard drives in the third quarter.   Dustin Crum threw three touchdown passes to Dante Cephus and for a career-high 407 yards and Kent State fought off Buffalo for a 48-38 win on Saturday night. The teams combined for 1,182 yards of offense. Kent State outgained Buffalo 633-549. The Golden Flashes (3-3, 2-0 Mid-American Conference) built a 31-10 first-half lead before Buffalo (2-4, 0-2) scored four touchdowns in the third quarter to take the lead.

Buffalo struck quickly on the four scoring drives where the longest lasted 4 1/2 minutes. Kevin Marks Jr. ran for a 16-yard score and Kyle Vantrease threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to Jake Molinich. Matt Myers ran into the end zone from the 4 and Dylan McDuffie ran it in from 10 yards to give Buffalo a 38-34 lead. Crum and Cephus helped closed the door on Buffalo with scoring plays of 5 and 40 yards in the fourth quarter. Cephus caught 13 passes and piled up 186 yards.
