  2019 ALL-OHIO VALLEY CONFERENCE SECOND TEAM (COACHES): QB - Zerrick Cooper, Jacksonville State,...A junior from Jonesboro, Ga., Cooper earns his second-straight All-OVC honor after being named a first-team selection in 2018. He extends JSU's streak of consecutive seasons with a quarterback on the All-OVC teams to seven. In 2019, Cooper finished the regular season ranked eighth nationally in total offense with 310.3 yards per game, eighth in passing yards with 3,404 yards, ninth in points responsible for with 204 and 11th in passing touchdowns with 28. In just two years at JSU, Cooper has the top two single-season passing marks and ranks third in school history for career passing yards (6,820). He also has the top two single-season passing touchdown marks and ranks seventh in OVC history and second in JSU history with 60 career passing touchdowns, just one away from Ed Lett's school record of 61 from 1979-82. - Jacksonville State Football

He wraps up a record-breaking two seasons on the field for JSU with a school-record 30 touchdown catches that rank among the top 10 in OVC history. The junior from Jacksonville, Fla., was third on the team in both receptions with 36 and in receiving yards with 479. He was second in the OVC in punting average at 41.8 yards per punt and led the league with 12 punts of 50 yards or longer. He pinned 20 (42 percent of his kicks) punts inside the opponents' 20-yard line and forced a fair catch on 18 of them. Against Eastern Kentucky he grabbed seven catches for 80 yards and caught a 20-yard touchdown in the first quarter, a 10-yard touchdown in the third quarter and a 18-yard touchdown in fourth quarter.   Zion Webb rushed for 79 yards and a touchdown, and one of his two throws went for another score as Jacksonville State held off Murray State 14-12 on Saturday. JSU had a 32-game regular-season home winning streak snapped last week against Southeast Missouri but got off to a 14-0 lead with just under 10 minutes left in the second quarter against Murray State. Zaden Webber kicked a 53-yard field goal to pull Murray State within 14-12 with 4:59 remaining in the fourth. After a JSU punt, the Racers went on a 13-play, 45-yard drive but Webber was off on a 52-yarder with five seconds to go for his third miss of the game. Michael Matthews added 89 yards rushing for Jacksonville State (6-3, 3-2 Ohio Valley Conference). Jamari Hester made two catches for 74 yards and a TD.   OCT 14 OVC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Traco Williams, SAF, 5-11, 195, Sr., Valley, Ala., Jacksonville State,...Williams had five tackles and two interceptions as Jacksonville State picked up its first road victory of the season, a 28-20 win over Eastern Illinois. His first interception came in the end zone in the second quarter, thwarting a Panther 12-play drive and resulting in an ensuing 12-play drive for JSU who would go ahead 21-7. His second pick of the day came on the final play of the first half, where Williams picked it off at the 20-yard line and returned it 40 yards to keep the score 21-7.   OCT 7 OVC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Zerrick Cooper, QB, 6-4, 225, R-Jr., Jonesboro, Ga., Jacksonville State,...Cooper completed 25-of-39 passes for 305 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 44 yards as No. 20 Jacksonville State came from behind to top Tennessee State 31-23. He had touchdown passes for 20, 42 and 8 yards in the game and passed Eli Jenkins for second place on the school's career touchdown list (48). It marked the fourth-straight week he has thrown for three touchdowns, the first JSU player to accomplish that since 2009. Cooper became the sixth player in school history to pass for 5,000 yards in a career during the win.

Cooper ranks third nationally in passing yards (1,879), fourth in points responsible for (120), fifth in total offense (345.0 yards/game), sixth in passing touchdowns (16), seventh in passing yards/game (313.2), 11th in completions/game (24.17), 26th in pass efficiency (149.2) and 28th in completion percentage (63.3%).   Zerrick Cooper threw three touchdown passes and Jacksonville State rallied to beat Tennessee State, 31-23 in an Ohio Valley Conference contest Saturday night. The Gamecocks (4-2, 1-1) staked Tennessee State to a 17-0 lead in the first quarter. Chris Rowland ran 48 yards for the opening touchdown less than two minutes into the game and his brother, Seth Rowland, followed him into the end zone minutes later from 27 yards out. Antonio Zita kicked a 19-yard field goal with 4:27 left in the first period to extend the lead and added field goals from 29 and 34 yards to complete the Tigers scoring.

Cooper hit Pearson from 20-yards out to cut the Tennessee State lead to a touchdown, and after Zita's second field goal, hit K.J. Stepherson from 42 yards out to make it a 20-17 game at intermission. Cooper found Pearson again with 2:43 left in the third quarter to put the Gamecocks on top, 24-23. Michael Matthews put the game away with a 10-yard scoring run with 7:18 left in the game. Cooper was 25 of 39 passing for 305 yards and Pearson had seven catches for 87 yards.   SEPT 23/WEEK 4 OVC CO-OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Josh Pearson, WR, 6-4, 205, Sr., Decatur, Ala., Jacksonville State,...Pearson caught seven passes for a career-high 149 yards and three touchdowns as Jacksonville State topped North Alabama 30-12. The win was the 31st consecutive home regular season win for the Gamecocks. It marked his third career three-touchdown game and moved him into second place on the school's career touchdown list (22). Pearson caught a 12-yard touchdown in the first quarter, a 67-yarder in the second quarter and wrapped up the scoring with a 53-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter.   SEPT 16/WEEK 3 OVC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Zerrick Cooper, QB, 6-4, 225, Jr., Jonesboro, Ga., Jacksonville State,...Cooper accounted for 337 yards of total offense and four touchdowns as No. 16 Jacksonville State overcame a 28-7 deficit after one quarter to defeat No. 4 Eastern Washington 49-45. It marked the highest-ranked opponent the Gamecocks had beaten since 2002 and extended the team's regular season home winning streak to 30 games. Cooper passed for 249 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for a team-high 88 yards and a score. Cooper led three touchdown drives in the fourth quarter (as JSU outscored EWU 21-0 in the final frame), including two over 70 yards, as the Gamecocks scored the winning touchdown with 59 seconds left (marking the team's only lead of the day).

Cooper ranks first nationally in total offense (372.0 yards/game), sixth in passing yards (1,007), seventh in passing yards/game (335.7), ninth in passing efficiency (159.3) and points responsible for/game (20.0), 10th in completion percentage (67.9%), 11th in completions/game (24.67) and 14th in passing touchdowns (7).   SEPT 9/WEEK 2 OVC CO-OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Zerrick Cooper, QB, 6-4, 225, Jr., Jonesboro, Ga., Jacksonville State,...Cooper completed 20-of-26 passes for 344 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 30 yards and two more scores as Jacksonville State topped Chattanooga 41-20. The junior completed his first nine passes of the game as the Gamecocks built a 21-3 lead. He had touchdown passes of 39 yards to Jamari Hester in the first quarter and 40 yards to Trae Barry in the third quarter. Cooper ran in touchdowns from 1-yard out in each the second and fourth quarters. For the game he helped direct the Gamecocks to 509 yards of total offense.

In the process he became just the ninth player in program history to throw for 4,000 yards in a career (doing so in just 15 games). Cooper ranks first nationally in total offense (389.5 yards/game), completion percentage (76.9%), passing yards (758), second in passing yards/game (379.0), third in completions/game (30.0), sixth in passing yards/attempt (9.72), 10th in passing efficiency (167.8) and 14th in points responsible for/game (18.0). - OVC Football
