  JaCobian Morgan threw for 337 yards and two touchdowns, Donerio Davenport rushed for two touchdowns and Jackson State dominated the second half to open Southwestern Athletic Conference play with a 38-13 victory over Southern in the Boombox Classic on Saturday night. The Tigers (3-1) led 17-13 at halftime after Morgan threw a 51-yard touchdown pass to Ja'Naylon Dupree with five seconds to play. Kam Sallis had intercepted an Ashton Strother pass at the 3 with 1:41 to go and then the Tigers, stopped on their 10, got a break when a Southern player ran into the punter.

From there, Jackson State outgained the Jaguars 293-107 in the second half. Morgan was 21-of-31 passing, adding an 82-yard touchdown connection with Nate Rembert to close the scoring. Ahmad Miller rushed for 101 yards and Rembert finished with 102 on five catches. Trey Holly ran for 147 yards for the Jaguars (1-4), with his 73-yard touchdown run producing a 13-7 lead in the second quarter. Davenport's second short TD made it 24-13 midway through the third and Travis Terrell Jr. added a short TD run in the middle of the fourth for a 30-13 lead. - AP College Football

  Freshman quarterback Jared Lockhart had three total touchdowns in his collegiate debut and Jackson State handled Division II opponent Tuskegee 30-0 on Saturday. Lockhart had touchdown runs of 11 and 6 yards as the Tigers took a 14-0 lead early in the second quarter. He added a 21-yard touchdown pass to Jameel Gardner Jr. for a 21-0 halftime lead.

Lockhart, who started in place of JaCobian Morgan, finished with 257 yards on 14-for-20 passing and Kobe Paul caught five for 113 yards. The Tigers (2-1) added 252 yards on the ground, with three players going over 50 yards. Morgan did not dress for Jackson State. He was injured against Southern Miss on Sept. 6. Morgan is 11-2 as Jackson State's starting quarterback. Tuskegee (2-1), which beat Jackson State in their last meeting in 2017, was held to 109 yards. Jackson State's last shutout was in the eighth game of the 2022 season when the Tigers defeated Southern 35-0. - AP College Football

  Ahmad Miller rushed for 172 yards on just 10 carries and his two fourth-quarter touchdowns over a span of 92 seconds helped Jackson State beat Hampton 28-14 on Saturday and the Tigers extended the longest win streak in Division I to 11 games. Jackson State (1-0), the defending HBCU champion, finished last season 12-2 capped by a victory in the Celebration Bowl. The Tigers' last loss came on Sept. 21 to Grambling - with the rematch coming this season on Oct. 25. Miller's first touchdown capped a 13-play, 80-yard drive with a 2-yard run for a 21-14 lead with 5:32 left.

After Isaiah Freeman hit Jah'Kei Chavis for a 29-yard gain to move the Pirates to the JSU 38, Mississippi State transfer Khamauri Rogers intercepted a pass and returned it five yards. Then Miller burst through the hole for a 76-yard score on the next play. JaCobian Morgan, the Celebration Bowl offensive MVP, threw for 127 yards on 14-of-29 passing for Jackson State. Donerio Davenport and Emari Matthews each had a short touchdown run in the first half. Freeman was 10 of 17 for 117 yards with a touchdown and an interception for Hampton (0-1). He also had 94 yards on just 13 carries. Hampton lost to Jackson Sate for the first time in four tries, with the last meeting ending in a 17-13 win in 2008. - AP College Football
