  10/01/25 - Jontez WilliamsrJr/2027, Iowa State, 5-11, 200 (DS#8 CB) + More +

No. 14 Iowa State's secondary will be without longtime starters Jontez Williams and Jeremiah Cooper the rest of the season because of knee injuries. Coach Matt Campbell announced Tuesday that Williams damaged the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee late in the Cyclones' 39-14 win over Arizona on Saturday. Cooper tore his ACL in practice last week. The two have combined for 55 starts.

Williams, an Associated Press All-Big 12 second team pick in 2024, had one interception and two pass breakups this season. He was hurt with 3 minutes left against Arizona as he dove in an attempt to knock a ball away from a receiver. "So that's a situation that really stinks for the kid," Campbell said. "But, man, just how he's handled it has been uber impressive. And, a great human. He'll be back ready to rock and roll next year." Cooper has made 36 starts since 2022 and was an AP All-Big 12 first-team pick at safety in 2023. He switched to cornerback full-time this season and had an interception and three pass breakups through four games. Tre Bell, a transfer from Lindenwood, made his first start for the Cyclones in Cooper's place against Arizona. Quinten Taylor Jr., who played 26 snaps against Arizona, would be in line to make his first start when the Cyclones (5-0, 2-0 Big 12) visit Cincinnati (3-1, 1-0) on Saturday. - AP College Football

Rocco Becht rushed for three touchdowns and threw for 243 yards, Carson Hansen ran for two scores and No. 14 Iowa State beat Arizona 39-14 Saturday night. Chase Sowell caught four passes for a career-high 146 yards, including receptions of 43, 32 and 52 yards. Becht completed 14 of 20 passes for the Cyclones (5-0, 2-0 Big 12), who led 36-7 midway through the third quarter. His nation-leading streak of consecutive games with a touchdown ended at 22. The teams were meeting for the first time since 1968, with Iowa State beating the Wildcats (4-1, 0-1) for the first time since 1958. Tight end Ben Brahmer had one of the game's highlights when he took an inside handoff and passed 45 yards to Brett Eskildsen to set up Becht's third 1-yard touchdown run. Noah Fifita was 32 of 48 for 253 yards and two touchdowns for Arizona. - Iowa State/AP College Football

Rocco Becht threw for 265 yards and had passing and rushing touchdowns as No. 14 Iowa State escaped with a 24-16 win over Arkansas State on Saturday. Abu Sama III ran for a 4-yard touchdown with 8:34 left to give the Cyclones (4-0) some breathing room after the Red Wolves had closed within 17-16. Carson Hansen rushed for 116 yards on 18 carries for Iowa State, and Sama had 69 yards on nine attempts. Jaylen Raynor threw for 222 yards and rushed for 83 for Arkansas State (1-2), which had consecutive touchdowns nullified by penalties early in the fourth quarter and had to settle for a 40-yard field goal from Clune Van Andel — his third of the game — that got the Red Wolves within one.

Becht, who struggled in the third quarter, completed four passes for 57 yards in a drive capped by Sama's touchdown run. The Cyclones were coming off an emotional 16-13 win over rival Iowa. The Red Wolves kept it close in the first half. Raynor's 3-yard touchdown run gave Arkansas State a 10-9 lead with 39 seconds left in the half, the first time Iowa State had trailed this season. The advantage lasted less than 30 seconds. Becht connected with Dominic Overby for a 27-yard touchdown, and his 2-point conversion pass to Hansen gave the Cyclones a 17-10 halftime lead. It was Becht's 22nd straight game with a scoring pass, a program record. - Iowa State/AP College Football

Kyle Konrardy kicked a 54-yard field goal with 1:52 left to give No. 16 Iowa State a 16-13 win over Iowa on Saturday, the Cyclones' second straight victory against their in-state rival and third in four years. Konrardy kicked a 54-yarder in the final seconds last year to beat the Hawkeyes 20-19. His winning kick this time came after Rocco Becht led the Cyclones on a grinding 55-yard drive that chewed 6 1/2 minutes off the clock. Tamatoa McDonough sacked Mark Gronowski twice on Iowa's last possession, with the Hawkeyes (1-1) turning the ball over on downs.

Iowa State (3-0) won the CyHawk Trophy in Ames for the first time since 2011. Konrardy's field goals of 44 and 27 yards put the Cyclones up 6-0, and Jeremiah Cooper's 24-yard interception return set up a short touchdown pass to Benjamin Brahmer to make it 13-3. Gronowski moved the Hawkeyes 85 yards in 16 plays late in the half, bulling into the end zone from the 2 to pull Iowa to 13-10 at half. Drew Stevens' 36-yard field goal tied it 13-all late in the third quarter. Gronowski was 13 of 24 for 83 yards and Jaziun Patterson led the Hawkeyes with 60 yards on 13 carries. - Iowa State/AP College Football

Rocco Becht threw for 278 yards and three touchdowns, two to tight end Benjamin Brahmer, and No. 22 Iowa State defeated South Dakota 55-7 on Saturday. Iowa State (2-0), which beat Kansas State 24-21 in Ireland last week, opened with back-to-back wins for the fourth time under coach Matt Campbell. Becht completed his first 14 passes and finished 19 for 20, a school-record 95%. He threw a touchdown pass in a program-record 20th straight game.

Kyle Konrardy set the school record for longest field goal with a 63-yarder as time expired in the first half. Konrardy's kick was second-longest in Big 12 history behind Martin Gramatica's 65-yarder for Kansas State in 1998. Brahamer caught seven balls for 47 yards and tight end Gabe Burkle had four catches for 85 yards and a touchdown. Iowa State's Dylan Lee led all rushers with 81 yards and a touchdown, all in the second half.   Rocco Becht passed for two touchdowns and ran for another score, helping No. 22 Iowa State beat No. 17 Kansas State 24-21 in the Aer Lingus Classic on Saturday. Becht was 14-for-28 for 183 yards. He found Dominic Overby for a 23-yard TD in the first quarter and passed to Brett Eskildsen for a 24-yard score in the third quarter. With 2:26 to go, Iowa State went for it on fourth-and-3 at the Kansas State 16-yard line. Becht found Carson Hansen for 15 yards and iced the game. "He called a great play, he gave me two plays and let me decide and I knew we were going to have a chance to get it," Becht said "We've worked on it in practice and it's been working for us and we're confident with it and I have trust in my guys."

The Cyclones (1-0, 1-0 Big 12) opened a 24-14 lead in the fourth quarter after a turnover on downs by Kansas State at its own 30-yard line. Becht finished the short drive with a 7-yard touchdown run with 6:38 left. Avery Johnson passed for 273 yards and two touchdowns for Kansas State (0-1, 0-1). He also had a 10-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. "I mean that's the thing, regardless of the outcome we have 11 games to play," Kansas State coach Chris Klieman said. "We have our back against the wall, but now we've got to reset and regroup and get ready to play." Johnson threw a 65-yard touchdown pass to Jerand Bradley with 6:23 remaining, but the Wildcats never got the ball back. Both teams struggled to deal with wet conditions in the first half. Kansas State had two turnovers and a turnover on downs, and Iowa State committed two turnovers in the first 30 minutes. - Iowa State/AP College Football
