  12/29/20 - Jake HansenrSr/2022, Illinois, 6-1, 239 (DS#14 ILB) + More +

Instead of pursuing a sixth season at Illinois, star linebacker Jake Hansen declared for the NFL Draft. Hansen was one of the leaders on the defense and a turnover-creating machine during his time in Champaign. This season, he led Illinois this season with 68 tackles, 10 tackles for a loss, two interceptions, two pass breakups and two forced fumbles. Hansen was named a Second Team All-Big Ten linebacker this season by conference media and a Third Team selection by coaches. Hansen's 10 career forced fumbles are tied for third-most in program history, behind only Simeon Rice (13) and Whitney Mercilus (11). He led the nation in forced fumbles during the 2019 season, forcing seven fumbles in just seven games. Hansen was involved in 14 takeaways during the last two seasons, which leads the nation. - Herald-Review Times

Bret Bielema, who led Wisconsin to three Rose Bowls before a disappointing run at Arkansas, is returning to the Big Ten Ten and his home state to coach Illinois. The Illini hired Bielema to replace the fired Lovie Smith on Saturday, hoping he can turn around a program with nine consecutive losing seasons. Illinois said Bielema will receive a six-year contract with an annual salary starting at $4.2 million, and begin work immediately. He will be a guest of athletic director Josh Whitman’s when Illinois plays at Penn State on Staurday. A native of western Illinois, the 50-year-old Bielema is 97-58 in 12 years at Wisconsin and Arkansas. - AP College Football

  12/18/20 - Josh ImatorbhebherSr/2021, Illinois, 6-1, 218 (DS#49 WR) + More +

Illinois' leading wide receiver Josh Imatorbhebhe on Thursday announced he is entering the NFL draft and won't play in the team's final game of the 2020 season. His decision comes two days before Illinois is scheduled to play at Penn State and follows Sunday's firing of coach Lovie Smith. The Illini are just 2-5 this season, so even a victory in Happy Valley during "Big Ten Champions Week" would not give them a winning season. Imatorbhebhe, a redshirt senior who transferred from USC in 2019, has led Illinois in receptions in his two seasons in Champaign. He caught 22 passes for 297 yards and three touchdowns this season. In 10 games last season, he grabbed 33 catches for 634 yards and nine touchdowns. - Chicago Tribune
