Cole McDonald ran for two touchdowns and Cortez Davis picked off a pass and returned it 43 yards for the go-ahead score as Hawaii rallied for a 21-7 victory over UNLV on Saturday. Kenyon Oblad's 31-yard scoring strike to Darren Woods Jr. gave UNLV a 7-0 lead after one quarter. McDonald ended a 10-play, 90-yard drive with a 1-yard TD run with 22 seconds left before halftime to knot the score at 7. The game remained tied until Davis picked off Oblad with 1:33 left in the third quarter for a 14-7 Rainbow Warriors (7-4, 4-3 Mountain West Conference) lead. McDonald wrapped up the victory with a 2-yard TD run early in the fourth quarter. McDonald completed 20 of 26 passes for 211 yards. He ran for 43 yards on 11 carries. Calvin Turner Jr. ran 10 yards to score in the second overtime then Jacksonville recovered a Marist fumble near the goal line for a 52-45 victory on Saturday. The win snapped a six-game losing streak and gave the Dolphins (3-8, 1-6) their first Pioneer Football League victory this season. The Red Foxes (3-7, 3-4) had a first-and-goal just inches from the end zone but Ethan Hull forced a fumble by Hunter Cobb and its was recovered by Jacksonville's Kyree Woods for the win. It was the only turnover of the game.

Marist forced overtime at 38-all on Luke Paladino's 45-yard field goal that went off the left upright before going through the goal posts as time ran out. There were 10 lead changes with the teams combining for 964 total yards. Turner rushed for 103 yards and two touchdowns and threw for a score. Garnett Nicolas ran for 147 yards including a 75-yard TD. Maurice Flournoy returned a blocked field goal 88 yards to score in the first quarter. Austin Day threw for 310 yards and two touchdowns for Marist with Cobb running for 151 yards including an 80-yard TD. - AP College Football

College football's Hula Bowl is returning after a 12-year absence. The postseason all-star game in Hawaii is a showcase for college players who aspire to play pro football. It started in 1946 and was last played in 2008. Game organizers and CBS Sports announced a television deal Thursday. Former Jets and Bills coach Rex Ryan and former Falcons coach Mike Smith will lead the teams of college seniors. Rosters will include players from Australia and Japan, along with those from across the U.S. The Hula Bowl executive director is Rich Miano, a former NFL player who played at the University of Hawaii. The game is scheduled for Jan. 26, with kickoff at 10:30 p.m. EST. - AP College Football

Cole McDonald and Miles Reed led Hawaii's ground game and an expected passing mismatch failed to materialize as the Rainbow Warriors beat New Mexico 45-31 on Saturday. Behind quarterback McDonald, Hawaii (5-3, 2-2 Mountain West Conference) entered the game with the country's third-leading passing attack with 359 yards per game. New Mexico is ranked 130th and last in NCAA FBS statistics, allowing 348 yards per game.

While McDonald certainly was effective through the air, completing 17 passes for 237 yards that included a touchdown, it was the Rainbow Warriors ground game that came up big with 255 yards. McDonald led the way, gaining a career-best 140 yards with two TD runs. Reed added 97 yards rushing and a touchdown. "It's an added element we haven't used a whole lot this year, but I thought, you saw his speed," Hawaii coach Nick Rolovich said. "I thought their plan early on was not to let us throw it. I had a hunch we might have to run the ball a little more." In his first game of the season, Kumoku Noa had four catches for 120 yards and a touchdown for the Rainbow Warriors. - Hawaii/AP College Football

Cole McDonald threw four touchdown passes, including three to Cedric Byrd II, and Hawaii beat Nevada 54-3 on Saturday night in the Mountain West Conference opener for both teams. McDonald completed 25 of 30 for 312 yards and Byrd had seven receptions for 87 yards. Jason Sharsh had nine catches for 123 yards - both career highs - and a score for Hawaii (4-1). Byrd had TD receptions of 36 and 2 yards, Justice Augafa returned a punt blocked by Andrew Choi 2 yards for a score and Miles Reed scored on a 9-yard run to make it 28-0 with 5:33 left in the second quarter.

After Brandon Talton's 36-yard field goal got Nevada (3-2) on the board with 36 seconds left in the first half, Byrd ran 29 yards on a trick play and then had a 7-yard reception to set up a 44-yard field goal Ryan Meskell to give the Rainbow Warriors a 28-point halftime lead. Hawaii, which had lost seven of its last eight against the Wolf Pack, won at Nevada for just the second time in 10 all-time tries. Calvin Turner Jr. ran for 145 yards and two touchdowns and running back B.J. Riley fired a 69-yard touchdown bomb to Mitchell Bailey as Jacksonville cruised past Ave Maria, an in-state, private NAIA school, 42-28 in a nonconference game Saturday afternoon. Riley's touchdown pass came on the second play from scrimmage less than a minute into the game and Turner darted 57 yards for the Dolphins' second touchdown four minutes later.

Ave Maria, founded by Domino's Pizza founder Tom Monaghan, came back in the first quarter with a six-play, 73-yard drive capped by Will Tate's 3-yard toss to Christian Przybysz. The Gyrenes, who draw their nickname from a 19th century slang term for a United States Marine, trailed by just 10 points at intermission, 31-21. Jacksonville (2-2) ground out 335 rushing yards and attempted just four passes, completing three for 85 yards. Wide receiver Rico Bussey Jr. is out for the season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his knee, an injury he suffered in UNT's loss to Cal. UNT coach Seth Littrell said that Bussey was questionable during his weekly press conference in advance of the Mean Green's game against the Roadrunners. A UNT spokesman confirmed just before kickoff that Bussey would miss the remainder of the season. Bussey is UNT's active leader with 1,941 receiving yards. He caught four passes for 156 yards and a touchdown in the Mean Green's win over Abilene Christian to open the season.

SMU held Bussey without a catch in UNT's second game. Bussey caught one pass in the Mean Green's loss to the Bears before leaving the game. Bussey was on crutches after the game. UNT rode its running game with Bussey out of the lineup, rolling up 290 yards on 44 carries. When the Mean Green went to the passing game, a couple of familiar faces were there to give Mason Fine reliable targets. - Denton Record Chronicle

Cole McDonald was 25-of-32 passing for 300 yards and four touchdowns and Hawaii beat Central Arkansas 35-16 on Saturday night. Jared Smart had eight receptions for 121 yards - both career highs - and scored his first touchdown for Hawaii (3-1). The Rainbow Warriors lost a fumble on their first possession but Kai Kaneshiro returned an interception 55 yards for a score and McDonald hit JoJo Ward for a 5-yard TD, Smart for a 16-yard score and connected with Cedric Byrd II on a 13-yard touchdown to make it 28-0 midway through the second quarter. Running back Carlo Blackman hit Sam Carmargo for a 4-yard TD and Hayden Ray added a 35-yard field goal just before the break and Blackman's 23-yard TD run in the fourth quarter cut the Central Arkansas deficit to 28-16 with 12 minutes remaining but Lincoln Victor's 11-yard touchdown reception capped the scoring with 3:27 to go. JoJo Ward had four touchdown receptions, Ryan Meskell kicked a 28-yard field goal late, and Hawaii escaped with a 31-28 win Oregon State on Saturday night. The Rainbow Warriors (2-0) overcame a pair of 14-point deficits, scored the game's final 17 points and never led until Meskell's go-ahead kick. Meskell missed his first three field goal attempts from 48, 27 and 48 yards - all of them wide left - before hitting the winner. Cedric Byrd hauled in four touchdown passes to help Hawaii escape with a 45-38 win over Arizona Saturday. The Rainbow Warriors (1-0) never trailed, saw three separate 14-point leads erased and overcame six turnovers to record their first win over the Wildcats (0-1) in six tries. Byrd caught scoring passes of 7 and 25 yards in the first half and added TD grabs of 35 and 30 yards after halftime. He finished with career-highs of 14 receptions for 224 yards.

Arizona evened the score at 35-all with Khalil Tate's 21-yard TD pass to Stanley Berryhill III late in the third quarter, but Hawaii took the lead for good on Ryan Meskell's 34-yard field goal with 10:39 left to play. Tate passed for 361 yards and three touchdowns on 22-of-39 passing with two interceptions. He also rushed for a team-high 108 yards on 13 carries. - AP College Football
