Mike Roussos scored from 1-yard out to start overtime, Ben Mathiasmeier intercepted a pass on the next offensive play and Columbia beat Harvard 17-10 on Saturday to end a 15-game losing streak in the series. Columbia (3-5, 2/3 Ivy League) beat Harvard for the first time since a 16-13 victory at Wien Stadium on November 8, 2003. Columbia went on an 11-play drive late in the fourth quarter but stalled at Harvard's 8 and Alex Felkins made a short field goal to tie it at 10. The Crimson went three-and-out and the Lions got it back at their 30 with 1:22 left but chose to run out the clock. Brogan McPartland highlighted overtime with a 25-yard grab to Harvard's 1 on third-and-11. Ty Lenhart completed 17 of 25 passes for 153 yards and one touchdown for Columbia. He also carried it 19 times for 50 yards. Jake Smith threw for 111 yards and a touchdown and Jake McIntyre added a shot field goal for Harvard (4-4, 2-3). - AP College Football

  11/08/19 - *Cam AkersJr/2020, Florida State, 5-10, 217 (DS#5 RB) + More +

Keep an eye on Florida State RB Cam Akers, the most talented player on a Seminoles team that has endured a bumpy few weeks that culminated in the firing of coach Willie Taggart. Akers rushed for 144 or more yards in two straight games before Miami held him to 66 yards last week. Expect interim coach Odell Haggins to lean on Akers, who averages 109.2 yards rushing, against a Boston College team that has one of the ACC's worst run defenses. - AP College Football

Wilson had 44 tackles and five sacks as a junior. Haggins says that Wilson "will remain involved as a captain and respected leader for our team."   Florida State fired second-year football coach Willie Taggart on Sunday, less than 24 hours after the Seminoles lost to rival Miami and with the team in danger of missing a bowl game for the second consecutive season. Taggart was 9-12 at Florida State, which won the national title in 2013 and has been in a freefall for the last three seasons. The Seminoles have not been ranked this season, are 0-5 against rivals Miami, Florida and Clemson under Taggart and attendance for games at Doak Campbell Stadium has plummeted. "We had no choice but to make a change," Florida State President John Thrasher said.

The school said longtime Florida State assistant Odell Haggins has been asked to take over as interim coach for the remainder of the season. Haggins was 2-0 as the interim in 2017, after Jimbo Fisher left Florida State for Texas A&M in December. "We still have a lot of faith," Florida State linebacker Emmett Rice said Saturday. "We have a lot to play for. It's not over just because we lost to Miami." For Taggart, it is over. He will receive a large payday as Florida State owes him a $17 million buyout as part of the letter of agreement he signed in Dec. 2017. "Obviously, I am disappointed in the decision today as I believe our future is bright and Florida State," Taggart said in a statement posted on Twitter. "Building a program and a culture takes time and I regret that we will not have the opportunity to continue to coach these incredible young men." - AP College Football

  10/27/19 - *Cam AkersJr/2020, Florida State, 5-10, 217 (DS#5 RB) + More +

Cam Akers has done a little of everything to help Florida State this season. On Saturday that included his most extensive playing time of his college career as a wildcat quarterback. Akers ran for 144 yards and tied a school record with four touchdown runs as Florida State routed Syracuse 35-17 on homecoming. The junior tailback had his fifth 100-yard rushing game of the season and now has 12 rushing touchdowns in 2019. Akers also took some snaps out of the wildcat formation and completed two passes for 26 yards. "Akers is the type of back that can break two or three tackles every time he touches the football," Syracuse coach Dino Babers said. "When you get into a wildcat formation, basically you have 10 blockers. When you have a first-round draft pick and you have 10 guys blocking, that is a really, really good formation. I would be very surprised if they don't continue to use that the rest of the year." Florida State (4-4, 3-3 Atlantic Coast Conference) showed very little wildcat formations with Akers in its previous seven games. But it was a focus for the Seminoles in the week leading up to Saturday's game and Akers, a five-star prospect who was a wildcat quarterback in high school, was excited to show his versatility. "We practiced it, repped it," Akers said. "We felt confident in it, doing it in this game." Akers' 26 total points, which included a 2-point conversion run, was the second-highest in school history to Ron Sellers' 30 points vs. Wake Forest in 1968. - Florida State/AP College Football
