There are going to be a host of newcomers on Kansas football's roster this fall. The Jayhawks announced some of those additions in the 2023 signing class in December. They announced more over the course of the past two-plus weeks. And those prospects, from the high school and college levels, covered a wide range of positions that address different needs Kansas has as it prepares for another run at a bowl game this upcoming college football season. Among the many topics head coach Lance Leipold addressed last week, he specifically addressed the recruitments of a number of the newcomers. Three in that group were Damarius McGhee, Jacoby Davis and Damon Greaves. And here's more on what Leipold had to say about them and how they fit into the Jayhawks' future.

McGhee was a 247Sports Composite four-star prospect out of high school, and according to 247Sports, the LSU transfer is a three-star talent out of the portal. It may not have worked out for McGhee at LSU, where he spent the first two years of his college career. There, he appeared in 13 games across two seasons and redshirted in 2022. But if it works out at Kansas, the Jayhawks are getting one of the top talents at the cornerback position from the 2021 recruiting class. Leipold said McGhee has great cover skills and his addition is a chance for the team to get better. "In fact, when I was on the road here last week I ran into a coach from (McGhee's) former school," said Leipold, speaking Feb. 1, "and he had nothing but positive things about (McGhee). And if (McGhee) stays healthy and does the things that he needs to, he doesn't see any reason why that (McGhee) won't be a fine addition and help this team." - Topeka Capital Journal

The Kansas football program added another group of transfer portal pick-ups over the weekend, with recent visitors Damarius McGhee, a cornerback out of LSU, and Patrick Joyner Jr., a defensive end from Utah State, committing to Kansas. McGhee, a former four-star prospect who originally had offers from Alabama, Georgia and several other big time programs, announced his commitment to Kansas on social media.

McGhee started on special teams for the Tigers as a true freshman in 2021 and appeared in one game during his sophomore season last fall. He said the KU coaches told him that both special teams and cornerback would be in his future at Kansas. That means returning kicks and that was something that stood out to him throughout his communications with KU. - Lawrence Journal World

Syracuse football has hit double digit exits via the transfer portal with just over a week to go until the first transfer window closes. Wide receiver Damien Alford entered the portal Tuesday night. The third-year player is the fourth wide receiver to depart the SU program this offseason, joining Courtney Jackson, Anthony Queeley and Dom Foster.

Alford finished the 2022 season with the third-most receiving yards (429) among the Orange. He had two receiving touchdowns and caught the deepest pass of the season, a 58-yard dime from quarterback Garrett Shrader, during Syracuse's late scoring run against Boston College. His departure will leave Syracuse without three of its top five receivers from this season. - The Post-Standard

Mississippi State football has put an emphasis on defensive backs in the transfer portal, and it's proving worthwhile so far. The latest addition: Indiana transfer Christopher Keys who committed to MSU on Sunday. Keys is the third transfer portal addition for MSU since the end of the regular season. He joins defensive backs Khamauri Rogers (Miami) and Ray'Darious Jones (LSU). Like Rogers and Jones, Keys is returning to his native state.

Keys is a Collins, Mississippi, native who was a three-star prospect out of Collins High School in the 2020 recruiting class, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. Keys spent the last three seasons at Indiana, where he appeared in 14 games with two starts. He redshirted his freshman season in 2020, though he did participate in three games, including an Outback Bowl loss against Ole Miss. Keys appeared in two games in 2021, but his year was cut short by a season-ending injury. - The Clarion Ledger

The Owls' offense will be losing a major contributor as starting running back, senior Larry McCammon III, has entered the transfer portal, first reported by On3 Sports. McCammon's decision comes on the heels of a breakout season. In 2022, the former three-star recruit rushed for 1,004 yards and seven touchdowns, which earned him First Team All-C-USA Honors. He also contributed 15 catches for 166 yards and a touchdown.

McCammon was immediately an asset to the Owls' offense upon his arrival, as he rushed for 324 yards and seven touchdowns as a true freshman in 2019, which earned him a spot on the C-USA All-Freshman team. With his decision, McCammon becomes the fifth Owl to enter the transfer portal this offseason, including defensive end Jaylen Joyner, who recently committed to the University of Memphis, and punter Riley Thompson who committed to Penn State University. - University Press

Arizona State defensive lineman Joe Moore III - who announced a transfer to UW on Dec. 19, and whose signing was confirmed by the program two days later - is no longer coming to Washington, an athletic department spokesperson confirmed Wednesday. The reason behind Moore's reversal remains unclear. A 6-foot-2, 245-pound junior, Moore recorded 24 tackles, four tackles for loss, two sacks and a fumble recovery in 12 games with the Sun Devils this season. He added 2.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks in 2021.

Moore also earned portal offers from Missouri and Houston, according to 247Sports. The St. Louis product was originally ranked as a three-star recruit in the 2020 class. But the former Sun Devil - who was listed as a defensive lineman, but projected more as an edge rusher - would not have filled a need at Washington. UW edge starters Bralen Trice and Zion Tupuola-Fetui both announced returns in 2023, and senior Sekai Asoau-Afoa, junior Sav'ell Smalls, sophomore Maurice Heims and redshirt freshman Lance Holtzclaw are also slated to be back. The Huskies added sophomore Sioux Falls transfer Zach Durfee and true freshmen Jacob Lane and Anthony James last month as well. - Seattle Times

Graduate offensive lineman Brendan Bordner has declared for the 2023 NFL Draft after one season with the Owls via Twitter. With his announcement, Bordner became the first Owl to officially declare for the 2023 NFL Draft, with multiple expected to follow suit. The 6-foot-5, 305-pound Columbus, Ohio native arrived at FAU in January 2022 as a graduate transfer following four seasons at Rutgers University. Bordner began his career on the opposite side of the ball as a defensive lineman at Hilliard Bradley High School, where he was a consensus three-star recruit and ranked 35th as a prospect in the state of Ohio on Rivals. - University Press
