Florida standout Kyle Pitts, the team's best player and the top tight end in the country, is turning pro and skipping a potential bowl game. Pitts made his announcement on social media Sunday, less than 12 hours after the 11th-ranked Gators lost to No. 1 Alabama 52-46 in the Southeastern Conference championship game. The 6-foot-6 junior from Philadelphia finished with seven receptions for 129 yards and a touchdown. He's expected to be the first tight end selected in the 2021 NFL draft and quite possibly a top-10 pick. "I have many great memories during my three years at Florida and I will always be a Gator," Pitts said. "I hope to continue to make Gator Nation proud throughout my career. I will forever miss running out of the tunnel on Saturdays with my brothers in front of 90,000 fans. "I know it's time for me to move on to the next chapter of my life." - AP College Football

  12/12/20 - *Kyle PittsJr/2021, Florida, 6-6, 245 (DS#1 TE) + More +

Standout tight end Kyle Pitts was scratched from No. 6 Florida's home finale against LSU on Saturday as a precaution. Pitts was dinged up in last week's win at Tennessee, and Florida's medical staff thought it was best to give him an extra week to recover. The Gators did not specify his injury. Florida plays top-ranked Alabama in the Southeastern Conference championship game next Saturday night. Pitts has 36 receptions for 641 yards and a team-leading 11 touchdowns in 6 1/2 games this season. He missed 2 1/2 games because of a concussion and a broken nose, injuries stemming from a hard hit against Georgia in early November. Kemore Gamble started in Pitts' place, and Keon Zipperer also was expected to fill the void. - AP College Football

The Gators were down two safeties at Rocky Top, and that could be the case once again vs. LSU. Starter Shawn Davis and his backup at free safety, Rashad Torrence, are both questionable for the game according to Mullen. "We've got to see how the week goes for those two guys this week," he said. Davis ranks third on the team with 40 tackles in seven starts, while Torrence has appeared in nine games and registered 25 tackles. He started in place of Davis against Tennessee, but was injured on the second play from scrimmage. - Gainesville Sun
