  Florida's Kyle Trask was named the winner of the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, SPORTyler and the Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce announced on Thursday night. Trask threw for 4,283 yards (No. 2 in the FBS) and 43 touchdowns (No. 1 in the FBS). He also accounted for 46 total touchdowns, which was second only to Tim Tebow's 55 in 2007 on UF's single-season record list. After his historic season for the Gators, Trask joins the company of other notable winners of the award such as Baker Mayfield (2017), Kyler Murray (2018) and J.K. Dobbins (2019). - Gainesville Sun

  Kicker Jace Christmann has decided to play for Dan Mullen...again. After committing to Mullen as a recruit and playing two years under him at Mississippi State, Christmann announced Friday he's joining the Florida program as a graduate transfer. He will replace UF starter Evan McPherson, who declared for the NFL draft earlier this month, on the roster. Christmann leaves MSU as the school's all-time leader in scoring (219), owns the record for consecutive PATs made (95) and tied for the best field-goal percentage in school history (80 percent). - Gainesville Sun

  Former Auburn defensive tackle Daquan Newkirk will finish his career in his home state while remaining in the SEC. Newkirk, who announced over the weekend his intent to leave Auburn, committed to Florida on Thursday. Newkirk was a senior last season for Auburn and should be immediately eligible as a graduate transfer at Florida. A native of Orlando, Fla., Newkirk spent the last three seasons at Auburn after originally committing as part of the Tigers' 2015 class but instead started his career in the junior college ranks. He joined Auburn in 2018, but his first two years were marred by two separate Achilles injuries. He finished his Auburn career with 39 tackles, including four for a loss and 1.5 sacks. - Birmingham News

  As expected, Florida safety Trey Dean III will come back for his senior season. He announced the decision on social media Tuesday. Dean started the final two games of 2020 and finished the year with 34 tackles and an interception. Dean started as a freshman at cornerback before switching to nickel in 2019.   2020 JOHN MACKEY AWARD WINNER: Kyle Pitts, Florida,...Florida's Kyle Pitts was named the winner of the John Mackey Award, which is presented annually to college football's most outstanding tight end. Pitts is the second tight end in school history to win the Mackey Award, joining a Gators tight end who won the award in 2009. Ben Troupe (2003) and Jake McGee (2015) were named finalists in their respective years. Pitts quickly became the best tight end and one of the top pass catchers in the country this season with 43 receptions, 770 yards and 12 touchdowns. - Florida Football

In addition, he ranks first in points responsible for (278) and is second in total QBR (90.4). In 11 games, the 6-5, 240-pound signal caller has nine 300-yard passing efforts, topping the 400-yard plateau five times, and had seven tilts with at least four touchdown passes. His 379.5 total yards of offense per game ranks third nationally.   Former Penn State redshirt senior defensive tackle Antonio Shelton will spend his sixth collegiate season at Florida, he announced via Twitter on Wednesday morning. Shelton, who started 20 games over his time with the Nittany Lions, initially announced that he'd enter the transfer portal just days after Penn State's final game of the season against Illinois on Dec. 19. The 6-foot-2, 327-pound Columbus, Ohio, native finished the 2020 season with 14 total tackles, 4.5 tackles for a loss, 3.5 sacks, one forced fumble and one pass defended. - Centre Times

  Florida's Evan McPherson on Tuesday became the rare kicker to forego his senior season and enter the NFL draft. McPherson, a former Fort Payne High School star, made 17 of 22 field-goal attempts and all 52 extra points for the Gators in 2020. He connected on field goals of 55 yards vs. Ole Miss, 53 yards vs. Texas A&M and 50 and 51 yards against Georgia. In his three-year Florida career, McPherson was successful on 51 of 60 field-goal attempts (85%) and 140 of 150 extra points (99.3%). - AL.com

His 186.65 passer rating is fifth-best nationally while his completion percentage of 69.7 is ninth best. Trask's 43 touchdown passes are tied for the eighth-highest total through 11 games in FBS history while his 375.0 passing yards per game is currently third-best ever in SEC history.   Florida quarterback Kyle Trask made his future plans official Thursday, formally announcing he's declining an opportunity to return to school and entering the NFL draft. No one thought Trask would stick around following a record-breaking season that included being named a Heisman Trophy finalist. Even coach Dan Mullen made it clear he was moving forward with Emory Jones and Anthony Richardson at the position.   Graham Mertz accounted for three touchdowns and Wisconsin turned four second-half interceptions into 21 points to beat Wake Forest 42-28 in the Duke's Mayo Bowl on Wednesday. Mertz, a redshirt freshman, threw for 130 yards and ran for two short touchdowns as Wisconsin (4-3) finished a rocky season on a high note. With the game tied at 21 late in the third quarter, Noah Burks intercepted Wake Forest's Sam Hartman on a pass in the flat when the intended receiver failed to turn his head around. Burks returned the ball 41 yards to set up a 14-yard scoring strike from Mertz to Mason Stokke on a wheel route, giving the Badgers their first lead.

Hartman, who had thrown only one interception all season, was picked off on the next three possessions as well. Scott Nelson had a 60-yard interception return and Collin Wilder returned a pick 72 yards to set up short TD runs that gave the Badgers a 42-21 lead, resulting in Hartman getting benched. Jack Sanborn had 11 tackles and an interception and was named MVP of the game. - AP College Football
