  2023 BIG SOUTH-OVC OFFENSIVE FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR: MJ Flowers, RB, R-Fr., Eastern Illinois,...Flowers, a finalist for the Jerry Rice Award, was a big part of Eastern Illinois improving from 2-9 a year ago to 8-3 this season. He carried the ball 157 times for 854 yards (5.4 yards per carry), which was second nationally among all freshmen (only three yards behind the leader) and third-most in the conference. He also scored eight rushing touchdowns, which was fourth among Big South-OVC players. Flowers added 35 receptions, which was tied for fourth on the EIU team and just outside the Top 10 overall in the Association. His 1,046 all-purpose yards on the season was also second-most nationally among all freshmen. He had a monster game in a victory at McNeese, rushing for 272 yards and adding sixth catches for 26 yards; that performance earned him National Freshman of the Week honors. He also had 201 rushing yards and four touchdowns in a victory over Tennessee State. Flowers was the only freshman nationally with a pair of 200-yard rushing games in 2023. - Big South-OVC Football Association

  2022 ALL-OHIO VALLEY CONFERENCE SECOND TEAM: LS - Jack Valente, Eastern Illinois,...Valente was a second team All-OVC selection at long snapper as EIU had some of the best field goal and punt teams in the OVC. Both EIU's field goal kicker and punter earned first team All-OVC honors. The field goal team was 11-of-13 on the season and perfect on extra points.   Pierce Holley threw for 250 yards and two touchdowns and Georgetown ended a six-game losing streak, beating Lafayette 30-20 on Saturday. The Hoyas (2-6, 1-3 Patriot League) built a 17-0 lead and never trailed. Lafayette (2-6, 1-2), now with a three-game skid, closed to within 17-14 when Ah-Shaun Davis threw a 5-yard score to Elijah Steward to reduce the deficit to 10 with 41 seconds before halftime. Jaden Sutton crashed in from the 2 to cut it to three with 10:38 left in the third, but the Hoyas extended the margin 24-14 seven minutes later when Herman Moultrie III ran it from 3 yards out. The one-play drive was set up when Wedner Cadet picked off Davis and ran it back 26 yards to the Leopards' 3. Joshua Tomas has 139 receiving yards on 12 receptions with a touchdown for Georgetown.   OCT 17 OVC FOOTBALL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Alexandar Oyawale, LB, 6-0, 220, Jr., Murrieta, Calif., Eastern Illinois,...Oyawale tallied five tackles (four solo), a sack, two quarterback hurries, a forced fumble and also recovered a fumble that he returned 40 yards for a touchdown in the Panthers double overtime game with Lindenwood. He was part of a defense that forced four turnovers and had five total sacks against the Lions. Midway through the fourth quarter he scooped up a fumble and raced 40 yards for the score to put Eastern Illinois ahead 24-17.   SEPT 5 OVC SPECIALIST OF THE WEEK: Stone Galloway, K, 5-11, 210, Jr., Collinsville, Ill., Eastern Illinois,...Galloway accounted for nine of the Panthers 27 points in the season opener against defending MAC champions Northern Illinois. Galloway connected from 34 yards at the end of the first quarter and 25 yards right before halftime to make the score 21-6. The Panthers would later cut the margin to 34-27. Galloway has now made six-straight field goals dating back to last season. He was also perfect on PATs (3-for-3) to finish with nine total point.   SEPT 25 OVC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Elijawah Tolbert, LB, 6-1, 230, So., Country Club Hills, Ill., Eastern Illinois,...Tolbert was disruptive on defense for the Panthers and was a big part of their success in forcing five turnovers in a 35-21 win over Murray State. Tolbert had two interceptions in the win as he now leads EIU with three picks for the season. Tolbert's second interception of the game came with 3:09 remaining and EIU leading 27-21; he returned the pick 20 yards and the Panthers scored a touchdown two plays later. Tolbert's first interception of the game ended the Racers drive just before halftime. The sophomore linebacker added six tackles (3 solo) to go and three pass break-ups.   Dom Shoffner threw for a touchdown and ran for two more scores, Kendi Young had 160 yards rushing and a TD on just eight carries and Eastern Illinois beat Murray State 35-21 Saturday night. Eastern Illinois (1-3) snapped a nine-game losing streak that began with a 22-6 loss at Murray State on Oct. 2. Shoffner was 5-of-14 passing for 74 yards - including a 2-yard touchdown pass to Justin Thomas - and added 17 carries for 88 yards. Young scored on a 36-yard run that made it 24-14 going into halftime and Eastern Illinois led the rest of the way.   Pierce Holley was 20-of-24 passing, Joshua Stakely rushed for 123 yards and two touchdowns, and Georgetown scored 20 unanswered points in beating Marist 43-12 on Saturday. Georgetown, which ranked 26th in the FCS last year with 253.7 passing yards per game, controlled the game on the ground. The Hoyas combined for 54 carries, 224 yards and four touchdowns. Georgetown also got points from its specials teams. The Hoyas' second blocked punt of the game resulted in Jimmy Kibble's 11-yard return for a touchdown as Georgetown led 27-6 early in the third quarter.

Holley passed for 175 yards, including a 7-yard touchdown to Joshua Tomas with 44 seconds left before halftime for a 20-3 lead. Georgetown had 257 yards and three touchdowns in the first half. The Hoyas also scored 16 straight points in the fourth. The Hoyas' defense intercepted DJ Arroyo twice in three pass attempts.
