The College Football Playoff announced today that the second-seeded Clemson Tigers will face the third-seeded Ohio State Buckeyes in the Allstate Sugar Bowl at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, La., on Friday, Jan. 1. Clemson earned the #2 spot in the final College Football Playoff rankings, clinching their sixth straight CFP berth. The Tigers will play Ohio State in the College Football Playoff Semifinal against the Ohio State Buckeyes, a rematch of the memorable 2019 Fiesta Bowl that resulted in a 29-23 victory for Clemson.   Trevor Lawrence had 412 yards of offense and three touchdowns, Travis Etienne ran for 124 yards and a score and No. 4 Clemson dominated No. 2 Notre Dame 34-10 on Saturday to win its sixth straight Atlantic Coast Conference championship. Lawrence threw long scoring passes to Amari Rodgers and E.J Williams in the first half to help the Tigers (10-1) avenge a 47-40 double-overtime loss at Norte Dame - with Lawrence sidelined because of the coronavirus - to lock up a spot in the College Football Playoff for the sixth straight season.

Lawrence, the game MVP and presumptive No. 1 pick in the NFL draft, overcame an early interception on a tipped ball to complete 25 of 36 passes for 322 yards. He ran 14 times for 90 yards, with a 34-yard touchdown scamper. The junior quarterback did it all, even throwing a block to spring Etienne for a 15-yard gain on a third-down run late in the second quarter leading to a touchdown and a 24-3 halftime lead. - AP College Football

  12/14/20 - Justyn RossrSr/2022, Clemson, 6-4, 210 (DS#35 WR) + More +

Justyn Ross must feel like he broke a tackle and is headed for the end zone. Ross, a standout receiver at Clemson and top NFL prospect who has missed this season with a spine condition, got "positive" news from his specialist earlier this week and seems to be on track to continue with his football career. A junior from Phenix City, Alabama, he was honorable mention All-ACC last season after a team-high 66 receptions for 865 yards and eight touchdowns.

It was discovered during summer drills that he had congenial fusion on his spine, an abnormality that is present at birth. He felt some numbness while making a catch. After intense diagnosis, he had surgery on June 5. Ross went to Pittsburgh on Tuesday to see his specialist, Dr. David Okonkwo, who is one of the leading neuroscientists in the world. Ross went through further testing there but did not immediately hear a diagnosis for his future. - Greenville News

Middle linebacker James Skalski, who missed more than a month with a groin injury before returning in last week's 52-17 win over Pittsburgh, started the game but was pulled early. Coach Dabo Swinney said Skalski was feeling sore and was pulled as a "precautionary measure." Jake Venables' injury was more serious. Skalski's backup suffered a broken arm during the game, Swinney said. - Charleston Post Courier

  12/09/20 - Justyn RossrSr/2022, Clemson, 6-4, 210 (DS#35 WR) + More +

WR Justyn Ross (ESPN's Chris Fowler said Ross may be back for ACC title game): "Maybe he knows something I don't know. That'd be awesome...but I don't think that's the case. We're just hoping that they'll clear him to play football. But I don't have any expectation that he would be able to play this year. He thinks he can play. It won't be because Justyn doesn't want to play. That's for sure. But I am excited about him having his appointment this week and hope everybody will keep him in their prayers. Because this will be a big week for him as he goes up to Pittsburgh and gets the next steps for him. We're just really praying for the best." Ross has been out all year after undergoing surgery for a congenital fusion in his spine. - The State

Much was made of Lawrence's running ability last season: The quarterback rushed for 563 yards and nine touchdowns on 103 carries. Lawrence has relied on his legs less this season - he concludes the 10-game regular season with just 44 carries - but on Saturday he reminded he can still make things happen himself when necessary. He turned a couple of run-pass options into rushing scores, a 17-yarder and a 7-yarder, that made a difference in a game in which Lawrence completed just 12 of 22 passes and threw an interception. - Charleston Post Courier
