  2019 ALL-SOUTHERN CONFERENCE SECOND TEAM (COACHES): OL Cole Strange, Chattanooga,...The big head scratcher was Strange not making either first team. He started every game on the Mocs offensive line that allowed just 14 sacks on the year. That number was second in the SoCon and No. 15 in the FCS. The Mocs also averaged 235.9 rushing yards per game in SoCon-only contests and were No. 24 in the FCS with 197.7 rushing yards per game for the 12-game schedule. Strange started the first 11 games at right guard, but had to move over to center for the last six quarters of the season due to an injury.   2019 SOUTHERN CONFERENCE FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR (COACHES): Ailym Ford, RB, Chattanooga,...Ford led the Mocs with 1,081 rushing yards this season. He was nine yards shy of the school freshman record set by Mike Smith in 1977 before being sidelined with an injury on Nov. 9 at Samford. He did not play in the final two games of the year. Ford entered the year as the No. 3 ball carrier on the Mocs' depth chart, but quickly moved his way into a more prominent role in the offense. Six times he ran for over 100 yards, including five in a row late in the season. His 108.1 rushing yards per game led all freshmen in the FCS, were second in the SoCon and No. 11 in the nation overall. He also tied for the team lead with nine rushing touchdowns. Ford was the was the leading rusher in the Southern Conference in league only game with 139.2 yards in six contests. - Chattanooga Football

  Nick Tiano passed for two touchdowns and rushed for a go-ahead score with 28 seconds left as Chattanooga rallied from a 14-point third-quarter deficit to beat The Citadel 34-33 on Saturday. Chattanooga trailed 26-12 after The Citadel rattled off 24 straight points. But in the fourth, Elijah Ibitokun-Hanks had scoring runs of 11 and 45 yards to get Chattanooga within 33-27 with 7:21 left. The Citadel punted on its next two possessions and Tiano capped an eight-play, 73-yard game-winning drive with a 12-yard run.

Tiano was 11 of 29 for 268 yards with one interception, and he carried it 11 times for 31 yards. Ibitokun-Hanks led the rushing attack for Chattanooga (6-5, 5-2 Southern), gaining 119 yards and scoring twice. Bryce Nunnelly caught four passes for 129 yards and a TD and Tyrin Summers added 90 yards and a score. The Citadel (6-5, 4-3) carried it 63 times for 351 yards and two touchdowns. Remus Bulmer had 12 carries for 130 yards and Brandon Rainey rushed it 22 times for 67 yards and a score.   Nick Tiano accounted for three touchdowns to lead Chattanooga to a 35-27 victory over Samford on Saturday. Tiano completed 17 of 28 passes for 196 yards, threw a pair of touchdown passes and added 100 yards rushing that included a 1-yard TD run. Elijah Ibitokun-Hanks added 139 yards rushing on 27 carries with two touchdown runs and a scoring catch for Chattanooga (5-5, 4-2 Southern Conference). Liam Welch threw two touchdown passes and ran for a third score to lead Samford (4-6, 3-4), which trailed 28-7 at halftime. Welch ran into the end zone from the 2 and tossed a 9-yard touchdown pass to Kendall Watson that pulled the Bulldogs to 28-20, but Tiano answered with a 4-yard TD pass to Ibitokun-Hanks that stretched the Mocs' lead to 35-20 late in the third quarter. Welch ran for a 4-yard touchdown and Chattanooga recovered the ensuing onside kick inside the final minute. - AP College Football

  2019 JERRY RICE AWARD WATCH LIST: Ailym Ford, RB, Chattanooga: 202 carries, 1,071 yards, 9 TDs; 122.7 all-purpose yards per game (9 games),...Ford is the fourth Moc to earn a spot on the list. Terrell Robinson placed 21st in the voting in 2011, Jacob Huesman was fourth in 2012 and Lucas Webb was 16th in 2014. Ford currently leads all freshmen at the FCS and FBS levels with 119.1 rushing yards per game. He is second in the SoCon with 1,072 yards and broke the Mocs' freshman mark with nine rushing touchdowns. With three games left on the schedule, Ford has a chance to break many of the Mocs overall rushing marks.   OCT 21/WEEK 8 MAC WEST DIVISION OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Eastern Michigan QB Preston Hutchinson,...Eastern Michigan sophomore quarterback Preston Hutchinson (Mason, Ohio) made his first collegiate start and led a 34-27 win over in-state rival Western Michigan. Hutchinson accounted for four touchdowns as he completed 31-36 passes for 357 yards and three passing touchdowns. He added nine yards rushing and his first-career rushing touchdown. His 86.1 completion percentage was the second-highest by an Eastern Michigan quarterback since the 1999 campaign, falling short of only Glass' 90-percent game against Coastal Carolina, Aug. 31.

Hutchinson's perfect game-winning drive was part of a fourth quarter that saw him complete 11-of-12 passes for 140 yards and a pair of long touchdown passes. He also made plays with his legs, finishing with 10 carries for 29 sack-adjusted yards, including a six-yard touchdown run early in the third quarter that gave Eastern Michigan its first lead of the game, 17-14. Hutchinson is the ninth Eastern Michigan quarterback to earn a start in the past decade, and the third signal caller to get his first career start against Western Michigan. Overall, his completions, attempts, passing yards, and touchdowns are all the best of any new quarterback since 2009.   Preston Hutchinson went 31 for 36 for 357 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions to help Eastern Michigan beat Western Michigan 34-27 on Saturday night. Hutchinson completed a 34-yard TD pass to Mathew Sexton to cap a six-play, 74-yard drive and Jairus Grissom ran it in to convert the two-point attempt, giving the Eagles a 34-27 lead with 36 seconds left.

Eastern Michigan (4-3, 1-2 Mid-American Conference) trailed by four late in the third quarter. Chad Ryland's 28-yard field goal cut the deficit to 21-20 with 13 seconds left in the period. Hutchinson's 29-yard pass to Quian Williams made it 26-21 and the two-point attempt failed. LeVante Bellamy scored on an 8-yard TD run to give the Broncos (4-4, 2-2) a 27-26 lead with 1:56 left in the game. Western Michigan failed on its two-point conversion attempt.   Victor Ulmo gave Chattanooga the lead on a 30-yard field goal with 14 seconds left and the Mocs stayed undefeated in Southern Conference play with a 16-13 win over East Tennessee State. Ulmo missed his first three field goal attempts and an extra point attempt. Two of his missed field goals came in the fourth quarter when they would have broken the 13-all tie for the Mocs (4-3, 3-0). Ailym Ford rushed 31 times for 200 yards and two TDs for Chattanooga.

Ford opened the scoring in the first quarter with a 6-yard run and tied it at 13-all with a 14-yard run in the third. Ulmo missed the extra point on the second touchdown. The Buccaneers (2-5, 0-4) scored all their points in the second quarter. Will Huzzie connected with Trey Mitchell for a 32-yard pass and Tyler Keltner kicked field goals from 29 and 43 yards to make it 13-7. Quay Holmes ran for 81 yards and Huzzie caught six passes for 75 yards for East Tennessee State. - AP College Football

  OCT 7 SOUTHERN CONFERENCE DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Ty Boeck, Chattanooga, So., LB, Soddy Daisy, Tenn.,...Chattanooga linebacker Ty Boeck had a team-high 12 tackles and forced two fumbles in the Mocs' 34-17 win at Mercer. Boeck, who has recorded at least 10 tackles in each of his last three games, had a career-high 2.0 for loss against the Bears. Boeck's first forced fumble of the day came in the first quarter deep in Mercer territory. The sophomore from Soddy Daisy, Tennessee, recovered the fumble at the Bears' 7-yard line, setting up Chattanooga's first score of the day.

Boeck forced another fumble in the fourth quarter, which was also recovered by the Mocs in Mercer territory. Boeck's efforts helped Chattanooga hold the Bears to just 29 yards rushing, their lowest total since restarting the program in 2013, and helped keep Mercer scoreless after the first quarter until a field goal in the fourth.
