SEPT 19 SOCON OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Preston Hutchinson, Sr., QB, Chattanooga, Mason, Ohio,...Quarterback Preston Hutchinson earned his second straight SoCon weekly honor after accounting for five touchdowns in Chattanooga's 44-14 win over North Alabama on Saturday. The senior from Mason, Ohio, completed 22 of his 31 pass attempts for 303 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 10 yards and two more scores. Hutchinson, who turned in a pass efficiency rating of 178.55, became the first Moc to total five TDs since Alejandro Bennifield in 2018 and is the first UTC quarterback to rush for multiple touchdowns in consecutive games since Jacob Huesman did so in 2015. Hutchinson is the first Mocs QB to throw for 300 yards since Nick Tiano in 2018. SEPT 12 SOCON OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Preston Hutchinson, Sr., QB, Chattanooga, Mason, Ohio,...Quarterback Preston Hutchinson was responsible for three touchdowns in Chattanooga's 38-20 win at Eastern Illinois on Saturday. The senior from Mason, Ohio, carried six times for 64 yards and two TDs, averaging 10.7 yards per carry and scoring on runs of 20 and 14 yards. Hutchinson also completed 17 of his 27 passes for 278 yards, including a 51-yard touchdown, giving him a pass efficiency of 154.27 on the afternoon. The Eastern Michigan graduate transfer, making just his second start at Chattanooga, rolled up 342 yards of total offense on the day in helping the Mocs move to 2-0 on the season. Hutchinson also pinned the Panthers inside their own 10-yard line twice on pooch punts. Ailym Ford ran for two of Chattanooga's three fourth quarter touchdowns to give the Mocs a 24-16 victory over East Tennessee State on Saturday. East Tennessee State led 13-3 heading into the fourth quarter. Ford scored on a 9-yard touchdown run with 14:22 remaining. Preston Hutchinson tossed a 11-yard TD pass to James Mayes about four minutes later that gave 10th-ranked Chattanooga (4-1, 2-0 Southern Conference) the lead for good. Tyler Keltner's 31-yard field goal pulled ETSU (2-3, 0-3) to 17-16 with 7:10 remaining before Ford sealed it with his 1-yard scoring run that capped a 12-play, 75-yard drive for the Mocs. Preston Hutchinson threw for three touchdowns and ran for two more, leading Chattanooga to a 41-14 victory over North Alabama on Saturday. Chattanooga's only touchdown, not accounted for by Hutchinson, came on a blocked punt in the fourth quarter. The Mocs (3-0), the No. 9-ranked team in FCS, held North Alabama (1-2) to a pair of second-quarter touchdown passes by Noah Walters. Hutchinson completed 22 of 31 passes for 303 yards. He was intercepted once. Ailym Ford had 96 yards rushing and caught two touchdown passes. Sam Phillips had five catches for 96 yards. Walters completed 18 of 27 passes for 250 yards and was intercepted once. Takairee Kenebrew caught three passes for 107 yards and a touchdown. Ailym Ford and Preston Hutchinson each ran for a pair of touchdowns and Chattanooga defeated Eastern Illinois 38-20 on Saturday night. Hutchinson threw for 278 yards, including a 51-yard touchdown to Javin Whatley. EIU had a 10-7 lead after Jonah O'Brien's 31-yard scoring toss to Nile Hill in the final minute of the third quarter but Ford's 4-yard score put the Mocs (2-0), ranked 10th in the FCS coaches poll, in front for good. Lowery's 45-yard pick-6 early in the second quarter was the first interception of his career and made the score 17-0 in UTC's favor, while four of his tackles were solo stops, including a 2-yard tackle for loss in the third quarter. The Powder Springs, Georgia, native helped Chattanooga to its first opening-day shutout since 2016 and its first shutout of a Division I opponent since 1995. Ailym Ford rushed for 156 yards and two touchdowns, Preston Hutchinson passed for 171 yards and a score, and Chattanooga rolled past Wofford 31-0 on Saturday in a season opener for both teams. Chattanooga took control in the first half with a rushing touchdown, passing score, pick-6 and a field goal. Ford gave Chattanooga a 31-0 lead late in the third quarter when he broke a tackle up the middle, cut to the right and outraced a defender for an 86-yard score. Ford also opened the scoring in the first quarter with a 3-yard run. Rueben Lowery III had the pick-6 in his first game as a starter for Chattanooga. Wofford had 230 total yards and three turnovers. The Terriers had a third-and-goal from the 4 with 5:14 left in the third quarter, but a bad snap resulted in Chattanooga's second fumble recovery. 2022 PRESEASON BUCK BUCHANAN AWARD WATCH LIST: DL Devonnsha Maxwell, Chattanooga, Sr., 6-3, 296 (2021 Finalist),...Maxwell finished 14th in the voting a year ago with his production belying what position he actually plays for the Mocs. The common misconception is that "D-Max" (emphasis on the Max) is a defensive end. With 12.0 sacks and just 7.5 shy of the Southern Conference record, it's an easy assumption that he's out wide with his ears pinned back going after the quarterback snap after snap.

Maxwell is actually a tackle. The sheik term is 3-technique meaning he has to work through guards, centers and tackles. His production is impressive considering the number of eyes on him every play on the interior of the line. "D-Max is a major part of our success defensively," Coach Rusty Wright shared. "He is a disruptive force at the 3-technique. "He is a leader on this football team and has a bright future ahead." Maxwell is a consensus preseason All-America after making virtually every squad a season ago. D-Max recorded 42 tackles with 15.5 for loss and 12.0 sacks.
