Three more players are transferring out of Kansas State's football program. A K-State spokesman confirmed to The Mercury on Tuesday that running back Thomas Grayson, defensive back Jonathan Alexander and defensive tackle Matthew Pola-Mao entered the NCAA's transfer portal. The news was first reported by Rivals.com. The trio hadn't been around the team this fall, as all opted out of playing this season. They were part of a quartet of Wildcats to opt out of the 2020 campaign, joining running back Joe Ervin. Alexander, Grayson and Pola-Mao are the sixth, seventh and eighth players, respectively, to transfer from K-State since August, joining wide receiver Joshua Youngblood, defensive back Walter Neil Jr., defensive linemen Derick Newton and Ronald Triplette and linebacker Demarrquese Hayes. Alexander, Grayson and Pola-Mao were members of the Wildcats' 2019 recruiting class, the first batch of signees for head coach Chris Klieman and his staff. Of the three, Alexander was the only one to take the field for K-State last season, as both Grayson and Pola-Mao redshirted. - Manhattan Mercury

OCT 12 CONFERENCE USA OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Charlotte redshirt senior RB Aaron McAllister powered a record-setting offensive performance with a pair of breakaway touchdowns and a career-best 214 yards of total offense as Charlotte posted a 49-21 road victory at North Texas. Charlotte set school C-USA records for points scored (49) and total offense (599) thanks to McAllister, who rushed for 140 yards and added 74 yards through the air. He broke behind the secondary for a 71-yard touchdown reception to give Charlotte a 14-0 lead early in the second quarter and he sped to a 66-yard TD run early in the 4th quarter to all but seal the win. McAllister's two TDs - the 49ers longest pass and longest run of the season - are the 49ers two longest plays from scrimmage - from a player who set a school-record with a 97-yard kickoff return earlier in the season. His 140 rushing yards gave him his third career 100-yard rushing day and first of the season. - Conference USA Football

Liberty fans got a glimpse of Stephen Sings' potential at defensive end with some brief snaps last weekend against FIU. They saw his speed, hustle and ability to get into the backfield as building blocks for what he could bring to the defense in the future. The future was accelerated quite a bit to Saturday against North Alabama. The true freshman received his first extended playing time and finished with four tackles and 1.5 sacks as the Liberty defense shined in a 28-7 victory over the Lions at Williams Stadium. "I just went out there and played," Sings said. Sings, the former Virginia Tech pledge who signed with Liberty in late April, received ample reps with the first-team defense after starter TreShaun Clark was ejected for targeting midway through the first quarter. - Lynchburg News and Advance

Trainers tend to injured Kansas State strong safety Wayne Jones in the fourth quarter of last week's game against Arkansas State. Jones later tweeted that he only had suffered minor injuries and a concussion as a result of the collision with Arkansas State running back Jamal Jones. K-State head coach Chris Klieman isn't sure when the third-year sophomore defensive back will be able to return, however. After numerous members of the Kansas State football roster were sidelined for undisclosed reasons - varying between injuries, positive coronavirus tests and close contacts to those active cases - last weekend, head coach Chris Klieman said he's hopeful those who sat out will be cleared in time for next week's Big 12 opener at Oklahoma.

"We anticipate getting a number of guys back," he said. "Now if that's five or if that's a dozen, I'm not sure. But obviously we were down a number of guys - but so was everybody else in the country, and you have to be able to overcome it, and we weren't able to on Saturday." K-State saw three starters forced out of the loss with injuries: center Noah Johnson, free safety Jahron McPherson and strong safety Wayne Jones. No injury drew more attention than Jones', who remained down on the field for an extended period of time late in the fourth quarter after a collision with Arkansas State running back Jamal Jones. Wayne Jones was put on a stretcher and taken off the field in a cart. - Manhattan Mercury

When No. 12 North Carolina faces Chartlotte on Saturday, the 49ers will be without their starting quarterback. Chris Reynolds is out with an "upper body" injury that he suffered against Appalachian State on Sept. 12, according to Charlotte coach Will Healy. Transfer Dom Shoffner, who started his career at N.C. Central, will start in Reynolds' place against the Tar Heels. Reynolds completed 11 of 30 passes for 140 yards and two interceptions and rushed for 34 yards in the loss against the Mountaineers. Healy said Reynolds is out indefinitely and was injured on the first play of the game. Healy threw an incomplete pass to Micaleous Elder on the play, but was hurried by the Mountaineers' Nick Hampton. Reynolds kept the ball on the next two plays, including a fumble on third down that he recovered. He would play the entire game. "Chris tried to fight through it," Healy said "He's as tough as nails." Healy did not elaborate on what Reynolds' injury is. - Raleigh News Observer

When the Missouri Valley Conference announced in August it had postponed football until the spring due to the coronavirus, Illinois State junior defensive end Romeo McKnight - an all-conference player who has hopes of playing in the NFL - quickly put his name into the NCAA's transfer portal. McKnight did so knowing he has only one season of eligibility left, and that he would need some kind of waiver from the NCAA that would allow him to play this season, even as a transfer. McKnight found such a waiver, had it granted, and will play this season for the Charlotte 49ers. He's expected to be in action Saturday when Charlotte opens its season at Appalachian State.

The waiver allows a player to become immediately eligible if he can show there were extenuating circumstances beyond his control that directly affect his health, safety or well-being. Those extenuating circumstances were the MVC's decision not to play, which would have a direct impact on McKnight's well-being - his prospects of being drafted next spring. It was at that FCS level where McKnight (6-foot-5, 260 pounds) had a dominating season in 2019. He had 12 sacks and his .73 sacks per game ranked 31st nationally. He also had 16.5 tackles for a loss, 10 quarterback hurries and forced two fumbles. He started his career at Iowa, but transferred to Illinois State after missing the 2017 season with the Hawkeyes with a knee injury. - Charlotte Observer

With Charlotte's special teams proving to be a liability and Mountaineers quarterback Zac Thomas having an error-free day of his own, it was left to Reynolds - who hadn't even won the 49ers' starting job during the preseason - to keep his team in the game. He did just that, throwing for 296 yards and four touchdowns and running for 35 more. (He actually rushed for 76 yards, including one run of 35 yards, but was sacked four times.) "He's a competitor who plays with grit and there's no play that's done with him," said first-year Mountaineers coach Shawn Clark, who was App State's offensive line coach last season. "Some quarterbacks can't scramble and keep a play going, but he's a guy who does a great job of extending plays. That's the kind of quarterback you want in your program."

Now a junior, Reynolds' story is well-known around local college football circles. At 5-foot-11, he didn't receive a Division I offer coming out of Davie County High (Division II Catawba was the only school to offer him a scholarship). He walked on for former coach Brad Lambert at Charlotte and, after redshirting, won the starting job in 2018. An ankle injury in October forced him to miss the rest of the season. "He's a playmaker," said App State senior defensive lineman Elijah Diarrassouba. "He's got a knack for making plays." - Charlotte Observer
