Like quarterback John Rhys Plumlee and tight end Alec Holler, UCF offensive lineman Lokahi Pauole will be back for the Knights' inaugural season in the Big 12 Conference next year. Pauole, who has started every game the last two seasons at guard, is using an extra year of eligibility granted to athletes by the NCAA due to the COVID-19 pandemic. "After being home for some time, I've had countless conversations with God and my family discussing my future," Pauole wrote on social media. "As a native Hawaiian, I have a kuleana (responsibility) to be loyal and to have the backs of those that have mine. Respecting the program that helped me grow roots outside the islands I call home. "That being said, I am a Knight," he added. "I will forever be bleed black and gold. We're not going anywhere."

The return of Pauole is major for UCF's offensive line. He'll provide stability and leadership up front as experienced linemen Sam Jackson and Ryan Swoboda have exhausted their eligibility. Pauole has earned some type of all-conference honor from the AAC's coaches three seasons in a row - first-team this year, second-team last season and an honorable mention in 2020. This season, the 6-foot-4, 305-pound offensive lineman helped UCF rush for 200 or more yards in nine of its 12 games. - Orlando Sentinel

When the NCAA transfer portal opened this week, a flurry of Knights decided to enter it. But not UCF safety Divaad Wilson. Wilson is leaving the Knights, too, but he declared for the 2023 NFL Draft on Wednesday. Wilson is the first player for the Knights to decide to turn pro following this season in hopes of getting selected in April's draft. Wilson began his college career at Georgia before transferring to UCF ahead of the 2020 season.

The redshirt senior and Miami native still had one year of eligibility remaining because of the extra season granted to athletes by the NCAA due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but Wilson set his eyes on the next level. "I would like to thank the coaches, athletic trainers, medical staff and everyone in the football facilities of both the University of Georgia and University of Central Florida for helping [me] become the man I am today," he wrote. "You all motivated me to give my very best on and off the field." Last season, Wilson played in all 13 regular season games, starting 12 times at safety. Earning second-team all-AAC from coaches, he recorded 2 interceptions and finished fourth on the team with 72 tackles. Wilson's productivity fell slightly this year for the Knights, but he still found a way to force turnovers. - Orlando Sentinel

Like his quarterback John Rhys Plumlee, UCF tight end Alec Holler will be back next year for the Knights' inaugural season in the Big 12 Conference and that's welcomed news given the state of his position group. It will be Holler's sixth season of college football made possible by an extra year of eligibility granted to athletes by the NCAA due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Holler announced the move Thursday afternoon on The Shepherd Orlando 1270 AM radio station. "I love this team, this university, this school, the coaching staff, and all of my teammates," he said. "When I just think about the journey and how far I've come, it kind of came down to that God is kind of pulling me to come back for another year."

Holler said he informed UCF coach Gus Malzahn of his decision earlier in the day. He explained his reasons. "I love this place," he said. "I want to help be a leader going into the Big 12. It's not about any money. In the NIL space now, a lot of people are all about money. If it was about money, I would go start working or doing something else. "It's really about the dream of trying to do what's best to get me to the NFL, in terms of developing and coming back an even better player next year." - Orlando Sentinel

University of Arkansas quarterback KJ Jefferson warmed hearts on a cold day across the state by announcing on Friday he would return for his senior season in 2023. The draft-eligible redshirt junior from Sardis, Miss., has emerged as one of the nation's top quarterbacks in two seasons as the Arkansas starter. The Razorbacks are 15-8 in games Jefferson has started since the 6-3, 242-pounder took the reins in 2021. In the two games Jefferson missed this year, due to a concussion and a shoulder injury, respectively, the Razorbacks averaged 366 yards and 13.5 points in a 40-17 loss at Mississippi State and a 13-10 home loss to LSU.

With Jefferson in the lineup, the Razorbacks went 6-4, lost three games by two points and averaged 471.3 yards and 34.1 points per game. Jefferson has advanced into the top 10 in the UA record books in multiple categories, including fourth in touchdown responsibility with 63. The dual-threat quarterback owns the second- and third-best completion-percentage seasons in Arkansas history with his 68.3% this year and 67.3% in 2021. Feleipe Franks holds the school record with 68.5% completions in 2020. Jefferson can challenge that record with a strong performance in the Razorbacks' bowl game. - Northwest Arkansas Times
