He enjoyed three of his best single-game performances against the conference's highest-ranked members: a career-best 11 stops against No. 4/3 Weber State, then eight tackles against No. 10/10 Montana State two weeks later.   2019 ALL-BIG SKY CONFERENCE HONORABLE MENTION (COACHES): Wide Receiver Khris Vaughn, UC Davis,...A junior sociology major from Redlands, Vaughn lived up to the preseason expectations of being the Aggies' "big-play" man among the receiving corps. He led his team with 756 receiving yards and nine receiving TDs, while his 53 overall catches were second only to Gilliam on the final stat sheet. Vaughn posted three games with at least 100 aerial yards, including 148 against Cal Poly on October 12. Furthermore, three of his scores came on plays of 50 yards or more: a 55-yarder vs. Cal Poly, a 58-yarder in the November 9 win at Portland State, then a team season-best 76-yarder at Sacramento State in last Saturday's finale. - California-Davis Football

  2019 BIG SKY FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR (COACHES): Nick Eaton, LB, UC Davis,...Freshman of the Year honors went to Aggie linebacker Nick Eaton. A finalist for the Jerry Rice Award, he has been a breath of fresh air for UC Davis in 2019. Eaton registered 56 tackles and 12.0 tackles for a loss of 55 yards through 12 games. He leads the Big Sky with five forced fumbles, in addition to one fumble recovery for a 78-yard touchdown. He's also accounted for six pass breakups and three quarterback hurries on the season.   NOV 11 BIG SKY DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: UC Davis Linebacker Nick Eaton picked up his second defensive weekly honor this season. He led UC Davis to a win at Portland State with eight tackles - six solo. He registered 2.0 tackles for loss, including 2.0 sacks for a loss of four yards. He recorded a pair of forced fumbles and a pass breakup in the victory.   Jake Maier threw four touchdown passes, Ulonzo Gilliam Jr. had a career-best 242 yards rushing and two TDs, and UC Davis beat Portland State 45-28 on Saturday. Maier was 27-of-38 passing for 383 yards with one interception and Gilliam had a career-high 29 carries. Freshman Lance Babb II had 10 receptions for 168 yards and three touchdowns - all season highs - and Khris Vaughn added five catches for 121 yards and a score for UC Davis (5-5, 3-3 Big Sky Conference). Maier connected with Vaughn for a 58-yard touchdown to make it 38-28 midway through the fourth quarter and Gilliam's 19-yard scoring run with 54 seconds left capped the scoring.

It was Maier's sixth 300-yard passing game this season and he has 3,057 yards this season, making him one of two players (J.T. O'Sullivan) in program history with three consecutive 3,000-yard passing seasons. Maier's has 10,657 career yards passing and needs just 89 to pass O'Sullivan into first in program history. Gilliam's 242 yards rushing were the fifth most in UCD history and his 75-yard rushing touchdown in the third quarter was a career long and the longest run by an Aggies player since 2007.   2019 JERRY RICE AWARD WATCH LIST: Nick Eaton, DE, UC Davis: 46 tackles (28 solo), 9.5 TFL, 3.5 sacks, 2 QBH, 1 FR, 3 FF (9 games),...Originally from nearby Rocklin, California, and Whitney High School, Eaton has started eight of nine games at Sam linebacker for the Aggies this season. He ranks fourth on the squad with 46 total tackles (28 solos, 18 assists) with team highs of 9.5 tackles for losses, 4.5 sacks and five pass breakups.

Eaton also has recorded three forced fumbles, including one that earned him a trio of awards following UC Davis' 48-24 win over Cal Poly: he intercepted a pitch from Mustang quarterback Jalen Hamler, then ran 78 yards the opposite way for his first collegiate touchdown.   Jake Maier threw three touchdown passes, Ulonzo Gilliam ran for 140 yards and a score and UC Davis beat Southern Utah 33-25 on Saturday night. Maier connected with three separate receivers as the Aggies (4-4, 2-2 Big Sky Conference) jumped out to a 26-0 lead with 2:29 to play in the second quarter. Lance Lawson's 3-yard run for Southern Utah (1-7, 0-4) just before half made it 26-7.

Maier was 25-of-37 passing for 271 yards. Gilliam had 28 carries and scored on a 3-yard run. Niko Harris capped a 16-play, 85-yard drive with a 4-yard touchdown run that stretched the Aggies' lead to 33-7 with 4:28 to play in the third quarter. Jay Green Jr. had a pair of 1-yard touchdown runs for the Thunderbirds in in the fourth quarter and Manny Berz kicked a 35-yard field goal with a minute left in the game, but UC Davis recovered the ensuing onside kick. - AP College Football

He added a one-yard sack, a pass breakup, and a forced fumble which he recovered and returned 78 yards for a touchdown. He collected seven tackles - all solos - with four going for 14 yards in losses and one a sack.   Nick Eaton intercepted a pitch and returned it 78 yards for a touchdown to help UC Davis end Cal Poly's rally and pull away for a 48-24 win on Saturday night. The Aggies (3-4, 1-2 Big Sky Conference) scored 24 points in the first quarter and extended their lead to 34-0 before the Mustangs (2-4, 1-2) rallied with 24 straight points. Jalen Hamler's 69-yard TD pass to Quentin Harrison cut the deficit to 34-24 in the first minute of the fourth quarter. UC Davis went four-and-out on its next possession, setting up Cal Poly at the Aggies 33.

The Mustangs covered 17 yards in two plays, but on a second-and-11, Eaton snatched Hamler's pitch and took it the other way to make it 41-24 with 11:23 left. UC Davis forced a punt and then went 83 yards on nine plays to cap the scoring. Jake Maier passed for 378 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions for the Aggies. Ulonzo Gilliam ran 22 times for 152 yards and a TD and Khris Vaughn caught eight passes for 148 yards and two scores. He tossed four touchdown passes without throwing an interception to give the Top-25 Aggies their second non-conference FCS win this season.   Jake Maier was 38-of-49 passing for 389 yards and four touchdowns and UC Davis cruised to a 41-13 win over Lehigh on Saturday night. Carson Crawford had nine receptions for 148 yards and a score, Khris Vaughn had two touchdown catches and Ulonzo Gilliam Jr. had 15 carries for 56 yards and a TD for UC Davis. Maier hit Vaughn for a 2-yard touchdown about 3 ½ minutes into the game and, after the teams traded punts, led an 11-play, 94-yard drive capped by Wes Preece's 4-yard TD catch that made it 14-0.

</p>The Mountain Hawks (0-3), on their next possession, moved to the UCD (2-1) 23 before Roland Ocansey stopped Addison Shoup for a 2-yard loss and Nas Anesi sacked Tyler Monaco before Lehigh failed to convert on a fourt-and-20 from the 33. Gilliam and Tehran Thomas scored on runs of 3 yards in the second quarter and 1 yard in the third, respectively, to give UCD a 28-0 lead before the Mountain Hawks crossed midfield again. Devon Bibbers had seven receptions for 101 yards and two touchdowns for Lehigh.   Ulonzo Gilliam scored the winning touchdown with a short run and UC Davis stopped San Diego at the goal line with two seconds left, defeating the Toreros 38-35 on Saturday and snapping San Diego's 21-game home winning streak. San Diego had just taken a 35-31 lead when UC Davis (1-1), ranked No. 5 in the STATS FCS poll, answered with a 14-play, 81-yard drive that ended with Gilliam crashing through the line from the 1 with the winner.

The Toreros (0-2) marched 91 yards to the 4 in the waning minutes with Reid Sinnett rolling out to his right and tossing a short pass to a wide-open Daq Irby. UC Davis' Devon King came sprinting from the end zone to close the gap and hammered Irby just shy of the goal line, forcing a fumble to prevent a score and preserve the win.
