Boise State took home the award for Best Institutional NIL Program Monday evening, at the Inaugural NIL Awards at the College Football Hall of Fame. The NIL Awards were presented on the first night of the NIL Summit, which continues Tuesday and Wednesday. The Best Institutional NIL Program Award recognizes the college or institution that has shown exceptional commitment to supporting its student-athletes in maximizing their name, image and likeness opportunities through a combination of education, resources and industry-leading innovation.

Boise State has taken an aggressive approach to name, image and likeness, setting out to build the most student-athlete friendly NIL program in the country. The "What's Next" program is the A.C.E. up the sleeve of Bronco student-athletes, providing Advocacy, Content and Education that will allow them to maximize their NIL opportunities. One of the elements that sets Boise State apart in the industry is the Boise State NIL Agreement - a voluntary, non-exclusive agreement available to all Bronco student-athletes. Signing up allows Boise State's in-house agency to represent them, seek opportunities and include them in group licensing deals. It also gives those student-athletes access to the Boise State Athletics logo - including photos of themselves in uniform or team-issued gear - to use in approved NIL opportunities. - Lewiston Tribune

  06/10/22 - Shane IrwinrSr/2023, Boise State, 6-3, 260 (DS#999 DE) + More +

One of the Boise State football team's top pass rushers has called it a career. Defensive end Shane Irwin announced Thursday on Twitter that he has medically retired. The sixth-year senior appeared in 18 games and started 11 the past two seasons for the Broncos. He played in 11 games last season but missed spring practice with an undisclosed injury this year. "Although this is not the way I would have liked things to end, I am extremely grateful for the experiences and am looking forward to representing Bronco Athletics in my next chapter of life," Irwin said in a statement.

Irwin was one of 11 players Boise State announced were returning as super seniors this year, meaning they were taking advantage of the extra year of eligibility the NCAA offered because of COVID-19. Irwin joined the Broncos in 2020 after spending two seasons at Long Beach City College. The native of Palos Verdes, California, began his college career at San Diego State. Irwin led the Broncos with 6.5 sacks in 2020, and he was tied for third on the team with three last season. He finished his Boise State career with 65 tackles, 12 tackles for loss and three forced fumbles. - Idaho Statesman

  06/07/22 - Kellen MoorerSr/2012, Boise State, 6-0, 197 (DS#12 QB) + More +

Former Boise State quarterback Kellen Moore is back on the College Football Hall of Fame ballot for the second year in a row. Moore, the offensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys, was one of 80 former players from the Football Bowl Subdivision announced Monday as part of the ballot for the 2023 class. He was also on the 2022 ballot in his first year of eligibility. The 2023 class will be announced early next year and inducted during the 65th National Football Foundation awards dinner on Dec. 5, 2023, according to a press release from the group. If selected, Moore would be the third former Boise State player enshrined in a national hall of fame.

The native of Prosser, Washington, lost just three games as Boise State's starting quarterback from 2008 to 2011, and his 50 career wins are still an NCAA record. He's the only player in school history to be named a finalist for the Heisman Trophy and earn three conference player of the year awards. Moore still holds records at Boise State for career touchdown passes (142), passing yards (14,667), completions (1,157) and attempts (1,658). He ranks No. 2 in NCAA history in career touchdown passes, behind former Houston quarterback Case Keenum. Moore wasn't picked in the 2012 NFL Draft, but he signed with the Detroit Lions and went on to spend a couple of years as a backup for the Dallas Cowboys. - Idaho Statesman

  03/04/22 - Riley WhimpeyrSr/2022, Boise State, 6-1, 231 (DS#999 OLB) + More +

Boise State doesn't have many starters to replace on defense, but there are two big holes to fill. Nickel Kekaula Kaniho declared for the NFL Draft in January, ending a five-year career at Boise State, which included appearing in a program-record 60 games and racking up 217 tackles, five sacks and six interceptions. Linebacker Riley Whimpey decided to retire after a five-year career, which included starting 42 games and posting 287 tackles, 21.5 tackles for loss and six sacks. He was the Broncos' leading tackler in 2019 and 2020. The most likely candidate to replace Kaniho is redshirt sophomore Rodney Robinson. The former three-star recruit appeared in all 12 games last season and finished with 19 tackles. - Idaho Statesman
