  Ahmaad Tanner punched into the end zone from 2 yards out for the game-winning score midway through the fourth quarter as Austin Peay knocked off Southeast Missouri State to give Austin Peay a 28-24 win over Southeast Missouri State in an Ohio Valley Conference clash on Saturday. The Governors, who knocked off Jacksonville State 52-33 two weeks ago, now have won back-to-back games for the first time under first-year head coach Mark Hudspeth.

Daniel Santacaterina fired a 13-yard touchdown pass to Aaron Alston with 9:52 left in the game to put the Redhawks in front, 24-21, but Austin Peay drove 72 yards in eight plays for the game-winning touchdown on its next possession. JaVaughn Craig was 17 of 28 for 243 yards and two touchdowns for Austin Peay. Tanner had 22 carries for 76 yards and two scores. Santacaterina was 15 of 24 for 221 yards and three touchdowns for Southeast Missouri State, but was picked off twice. - AP College Football

With his team trailing in the fourth quarter, the junior accounted for all 63 yards in the game-winning drive, capped by a 14-yard scoring pass to Aaron Parker with 5:43 to play. He threw for 227 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while running for 94 yards and a two more scores. This is the second straight week that Diliello has been named GSC Freshman of the Week and his first career GSC Offensive Player of the Week honor.   SEPT 30/WEEK 5 OVC CO-OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: JaVaughn Craig, QB, 6-2, 210, Sr., Chattanooga, Tenn., Austin Peay,...Craig accounted for five touchdowns (3 rushing, 2 passing) as Austin Peay ended a 12-game losing streak to Jacksonville State, knocking off the No. 11 Gamecocks by a 52-33 margin. It was Austin Peay's first win over JSU since the 1979 season and first win over a ranked opponent since 2017.

The senior completed 15-of-21 passes for 220 yards and a 72-yard touchdown to DeAngelo Wilson in the first quarter and a 48-yard score to Gorel Soumare early in the third quarter to make the score 45-7. Craig ran for 30 yards on nine carries including touchdown runs of 3 yards in the second quarter, 4 yards in the third quarter and recovering a fumble in the end zone in the fourth quarter. Craig now has 13 career rushing touchdowns, tied for the most by a quarterback in school history.   SEPT 30/WEEK 5 OVC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Kordell Jackson, DB, 5-11, 163, Jr., Birmingham, Ala., Austin Peay,...For the second time this season Jackson had two interceptions in a game, picking off two passes as Austin Peay topped No. 11 Jacksonville State 52-33, its first win over the Gamecocks since 1979. In the first quarter he picked off a pass at the JSU 20-yard line that led to the Govs first points of the game seven plays later.

In the second quarter he picked off a pass at his team's own 35-yard line and returned it 41 yards deep into Gamecock territory. That led to a APSU touchdown four plays later as the team went ahead 24-7. Jackson also added a tackle-for-loss and a quarterback hurry. Jackson is the only Division I player (FBS or FBS) with multiple interceptions in two different games this season, and first OVC player to accomplish the feat since 2016 (Jaylen Hill, JSU). Jackson's four interceptions this season are tied for the most nationally. The freshman quarterback opened up GSC play with 309 yards through the air and two touchdowns. He also ran for 20 yards and a scored a touchdown on the ground. It was his fourth rushing touchdown of the season. He is the first Florida Tech player to win this award since Antwuan Haynes in 2015. - Gulf South Football

  SEPT 16/WEEK 3 OVC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Kordell Jackson, DB, 5-11, 163, Jr., Birmingham, Ala., Austin Peay,...Jackson became the first player in Austin Peay history to return a pair of interceptions for touchdowns in the team's 48-34 road victory over Mercer. The junior had a 29-yard return in the third quarter to put the Governors up 27-13. Early in the fourth quarter he had a 69-yard return, the fourth-longest in school history, to put APSU ahead 41-20. It marked the sixth-longest interception return in the FCS this season. Jackson is one of just three players in school history with multiple interception returns for a score in the same season. He is the first OVC player to return two interceptions for a score in the same game since 2017 (Tennessee State's Vincent Sellers). Jackson also had two tackles and a pass breakup.   2019 ALL-OHIO VALLEY CONFERENCE FOOTBALL TEAM (COACHES): OT - Kyle Anderton, Austin Peay,...Anderton earned Preseason All-OVC honors for the second straight season after being a Second-Team All-OVC selection in 2017. He entered the 2018 season as the starter at left tackle, but only played in the season's first four games due to injury and used the new redshirt rule to return in 2019.

After manning the left tackle spot for all 12 games in 2017, Anderton helped the Govs to the highest single-season yardage total in program history. He played a key role in last season's 78-point outburst at Morehead State in which the Govs set an OVC record for most points against a Division I opponent. - Austin Peay Football

  2019 ALL-OHIO VALLEY CONFERENCE FOOTBALL TEAM (COACHES): RB - Kentel Williams, Austin Peay,...Williams earns his first career Preseason All-OVC selection after being named First-Team All-OVC in 2018 when he led the FCS with a 7.99 yards per carry average. He finished third nationally in all-purpose yards per game, averaging 167.78 per contest, which helped him garner Third-Team All-America honors from the Associated Press as an all-purpose back.

Not only did Williams lead the Govs in 2018 with 831 yards rushing and seven touchdowns, he also led the OVC with 547 kickoff return yards to go along with 127 yards receiving and a touchdown. His 1,510 all-purpose yards was the sixth-highest single-season total in Austin Peay history. - Austin Peay Football

  Redshirt senior wide receiver Keenan Barnes had a successful career at Louisiana-Lafayette, playing his first three seasons while Hudspeth was at the helm of the program. He comes to Austin Peay after graduating from Louisiana-Lafayette with a bachelor's degree in general studies. After hauling in 31 receptions for 318 yards and six touchdowns as a sophomore, Barnes was selected Preseason All-Sun Belt prior to his junior season and caught 37 passes for 539 yards and two scores. The Madison, Mississippi product was rated a three-star prospect out of high school by Scout.com and ESPN.com. - Clarksville Online
