  JaVaughn Craigthrew two touchdown passes to DeAngelo Wilson, Prince Momodu ran for two scores and Austin Peay overwhelmed Murray State 42-7 on Saturday. Austin Peay wrapped it up with three touchdowns in the fourth quarter. The Governors (8-3, 6-1 Ohio Valley) scored on their first drive of the game when Momodu crashed in from a yard out, ending a 10-play, 75-yard drive. In the second quarter, Craig threw a 40-yard touchdown to Wilson with 9:48 before halftime. After intermission, Momodu ran it in from 10 yards for a 21-0 lead. The Racers got on the board when Preston Rice threw a 27-yard score to Jonathan Moss. Rice threw for 220 yards, a score and two interceptions. Austin Peay is in tie for first place with Southeast Missouri State (8-3, 6-1). The Governors beat the Redhawks 28-24 last month. The Governors end the season next week against Eastern Illinois (1-10, 1-6) and Southeast Missouri State ends with Murray State. - AP College Football

  NOV 11 OVC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Josephus Smith, DL, 5-9, 285, R-Jr., Leeds, Ala., Austin Peay,...Smith had three tackles, all of which were for loss, including 2.0 total sacks in Austin Peay's 38-24 win over UT Martin. The win kept Austin Peay tied for first place in the OVC standings. His three stops led to 17 yards of lost offense for UTM. Smith anchored a defense that help the Skyhawks to -25 net rushing yards and equaled the school record with six total sacks. The Austin Peay defense currently ranks sixth in rushing defense (83.9 yards/game), 12th in total defense (312.1 yards/game) and 24th in passing efficiency defense (121.2).   Kentel Williams rushed for 118 yards and three touchdowns and Austin Peay breezed to a 38-24 victory over Tennessee-Martin on Saturday. After a scoreless first quarter, Austin Peay (7-3, 5-1 Ohio Valley Conference) caught fire in the second. Baniko Harley opened the scoring with a 7-yard TD run, capping a 10-play drive. The Governors stretched their lead to 14-0 when Kordell Jackson picked off a John Bachus III pass at their own 28-yard line. Two plays later Williams scored on a 67-yard run. Logan Birchfield's 23-yard field goal made it 17-0. Ryan Courtright's 50-yard field goal with 11 seconds left before halftime pulled UT Martin (6-4, 5-2) within 17-3.

Williams' 5-yard TD run at 6:59 in the third quarter put the Governors up 24-3. Williams had a 4-yard scoring run and Prince Momodu added a 17-yard TD run in the fourth quarter. Bachus threw three touchdown passes -- covering 6, 27 and 16 yards -- to Jaylon Moore in the second half for the Skyhawks. JaVaughn Craig completed 17 of 27 passes for 255 yards with an interception for Austin Peay. DeAngelo Wilson had six catches for 126 yards. Bachus was 20-of-41 passing for 286 yards with one pick for UT Martin. The Skyhawks had minus-25 yards rushing on 18 carries, while the Governors ran for 236 on 48 totes. With the victory, Austin Peay is tied with Southeast Missouri State atop the conference standings. UT Martin fell a half-game off the pace. - AP College Football

  JaVaughn Craig threw for 238 and three touchdowns, the third one for the go-ahead score in overtime, and Austin Peay defeated Eastern Kentucky 28-21 on Saturday. Austin Peay (6-3, 4-1 Ohio Valley) scored on the first play of overtime, as Craig connected with Kentel Williams on a 25-yard toss. Eastern Kentucky (5-4, 3-2) went four-and-out on its overtime possession. The Governors trailed 10-7 at halftime but took a 21-10 lead on a 1-yard run by Ahmaad Tanner in the third quarter and a 1-yard pass from Craig to Prince Momodu early in the fourth.

The Colonels drew within 21-18 after Daryl McCleskey's 9-yard run and a successful two-point conversion. Eastern Kentucky tied it at 21 on a 28-yard field goal by Sam Hayworth. After the tying field goal, the Governors drove to the EKU 32-yard line but Craig threw incomplete on third and fourth downs. EKU took over at its own 32 with 2:28 remaining. Neither team crossed midfield on its final possession of regulation. DeAngelo Wilson caught seven passes for 105 yards for Austin Peay. Craig led the Govs in rushing with 46 yards on 10 carries.   Vito Priore threw for 246 yards and three touchdowns to lead Rhode Island to just its second win of the year, a 42-14 victory over Merrimack in a nonconference game on Saturday. The Rams beat Brown 31-28 a month ago for their first win of the season before dropping three straight games. Rhode Island (2-7, 0-5) will return to Northeast Conference play next Saturday at William & Mary (2-6, 0-4). Priore was 16-of-25 passing with one interception. Aaron Parker hauled in eight of those passes for 126 yards and a touchdown. The Rams forced five turnovers with Malik Gavek returning an interception 30 yards for a score to take a 21-7 lead early in the third quarter. Gavek also had a career-high 14 total tackles, well above his previous high of five in one game, and forced a fumble. Momodou Mbye and Rashod Dickerson also each picked off a Christian Carter pass.   OCT 28 OVC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: JaVaughn Craig, QB6-2, 200, Sr., Chattanooga, Tenn., Austin Peay,...Craig accounted for seven touchdowns (5 passing, 2 rushing) as Austin Peay improved to 3-1 in OVC play with a 58-21 win at Tennessee Tech. On a rainy and blustery day, the senior completed 16-of-23 passes for 294 yards and a program record tying five touchdowns (46, 30, 5, 53 and 9 yards) and rushed seven times for a game-high 84 yards and two scores (1 and 27 yards). He was involved in seven of the Govs eight touchdowns in the victory. Craig led the Govs to 58 points, the most in an OVC road contest in program history (breaking the previous mark of 49). The senior ranks 12th nationally in passing yards per completion (14.68), 27th in points responsible for/game (15.0), 32nd in passing efficiency (144.0) and 35th in total offense (255.6 yards/game). - Ohio Valley Football

  JaVaughn Craig passed for 294 yards and five touchdowns and ran for 84 yards and two TDs to help Austin Peay beat Tennessee Tech 58-21 on Saturday. Craig finished 16 of 23 with no interceptions and carried it seven times for the Governors (5-3, 3-1 Ohio Valley Conference). Austin Peay outrushed the Golden Eagles 318-92 and outgained them 614-352 in total offense. DeAngelo Wilson had seven catches for 161 yards and two touchdowns for the Governors. Ahmaad Tanner ran 17 times for 82 yards, Prince Momodu ran 13 times for 78 yards and Kentel Williams ran 16 times for 68 yards and a TD. Tennessee Tech (4-4, 1-3) scored a touchdown on the opening possession of the game. Austin Peay scored the next 41 points and went into the break with a 44-14 lead.   Ahmaad Tanner punched into the end zone from 2 yards out for the game-winning score midway through the fourth quarter as Austin Peay knocked off Southeast Missouri State to give Austin Peay a 28-24 win over Southeast Missouri State in an Ohio Valley Conference clash on Saturday. The Governors, who knocked off Jacksonville State 52-33 two weeks ago, now have won back-to-back games for the first time under first-year head coach Mark Hudspeth.

Daniel Santacaterina fired a 13-yard touchdown pass to Aaron Alston with 9:52 left in the game to put the Redhawks in front, 24-21, but Austin Peay drove 72 yards in eight plays for the game-winning touchdown on its next possession. JaVaughn Craig was 17 of 28 for 243 yards and two touchdowns for Austin Peay. Tanner had 22 carries for 76 yards and two scores. Santacaterina was 15 of 24 for 221 yards and three touchdowns for Southeast Missouri State, but was picked off twice. - AP College Football

  SEPT 30/WEEK 5 OVC CO-OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: JaVaughn Craig, QB, 6-2, 210, Sr., Chattanooga, Tenn., Austin Peay,...Craig accounted for five touchdowns (3 rushing, 2 passing) as Austin Peay ended a 12-game losing streak to Jacksonville State, knocking off the No. 11 Gamecocks by a 52-33 margin. It was Austin Peay's first win over JSU since the 1979 season and first win over a ranked opponent since 2017.

The senior completed 15-of-21 passes for 220 yards and a 72-yard touchdown to DeAngelo Wilson in the first quarter and a 48-yard score to Gorel Soumare early in the third quarter to make the score 45-7. Craig ran for 30 yards on nine carries including touchdown runs of 3 yards in the second quarter, 4 yards in the third quarter and recovering a fumble in the end zone in the fourth quarter. Craig now has 13 career rushing touchdowns, tied for the most by a quarterback in school history.   SEPT 30/WEEK 5 OVC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Kordell Jackson, DB, 5-11, 163, Jr., Birmingham, Ala., Austin Peay,...For the second time this season Jackson had two interceptions in a game, picking off two passes as Austin Peay topped No. 11 Jacksonville State 52-33, its first win over the Gamecocks since 1979. In the first quarter he picked off a pass at the JSU 20-yard line that led to the Govs first points of the game seven plays later.

In the second quarter he picked off a pass at his team's own 35-yard line and returned it 41 yards deep into Gamecock territory. That led to a APSU touchdown four plays later as the team went ahead 24-7. Jackson also added a tackle-for-loss and a quarterback hurry. Jackson is the only Division I player (FBS or FBS) with multiple interceptions in two different games this season, and first OVC player to accomplish the feat since 2016 (Jaylen Hill, JSU). Jackson's four interceptions this season are tied for the most nationally. The freshman quarterback opened up GSC play with 309 yards through the air and two touchdowns. He also ran for 20 yards and a scored a touchdown on the ground. It was his fourth rushing touchdown of the season. He is the first Florida Tech player to win this award since Antwuan Haynes in 2015. - Gulf South Football

  SEPT 16/WEEK 3 OVC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Kordell Jackson, DB, 5-11, 163, Jr., Birmingham, Ala., Austin Peay,...Jackson became the first player in Austin Peay history to return a pair of interceptions for touchdowns in the team's 48-34 road victory over Mercer. The junior had a 29-yard return in the third quarter to put the Governors up 27-13. Early in the fourth quarter he had a 69-yard return, the fourth-longest in school history, to put APSU ahead 41-20. It marked the sixth-longest interception return in the FCS this season. Jackson is one of just three players in school history with multiple interception returns for a score in the same season. He is the first OVC player to return two interceptions for a score in the same game since 2017 (Tennessee State's Vincent Sellers). Jackson also had two tackles and a pass breakup.   2019 ALL-OHIO VALLEY CONFERENCE FOOTBALL TEAM (COACHES): OT - Kyle Anderton, Austin Peay,...Anderton earned Preseason All-OVC honors for the second straight season after being a Second-Team All-OVC selection in 2017. He entered the 2018 season as the starter at left tackle, but only played in the season's first four games due to injury and used the new redshirt rule to return in 2019.

After manning the left tackle spot for all 12 games in 2017, Anderton helped the Govs to the highest single-season yardage total in program history. He played a key role in last season's 78-point outburst at Morehead State in which the Govs set an OVC record for most points against a Division I opponent. - Austin Peay Football
