His nine rushing touchdowns ranked second among league runners, and he supplemented those efforts with 26 catches for 192 yards and two more touchdowns receiving, setting or tying career highs in all three categories.   2019 ALL-OHIO VALLEY CONFERENCE FIRST TEAM (COACHES): JaVaughn Craig, Austin Peay,...When pressed into action after Jeremiah Oatsvall was lost for the regular season, the senior responded with a monster final campaign, throwing for 2,567 yards and 22 touchdowns on 180-of-318 through the air, and rushing for 547 yards on 105 carries and eight scores as a complementary threat out of the backfield. His 141.0 pass efficiency led the conference and ranked 31st in the NCAA, while his 22 scores ranked second and 21st, respectively. He also averaged 14.3 yards per completion, 12th in the NCAA and first in the league.   2019 ALL-OHIO VALLEY CONFERENCE FIRST TEAM (COACHES): DB - Kordell Jackson, Austin Peay,...The ball found its way into Kordell Jackson's hands often in 2019. The Birmingham, Alabama native led the OVC with seven interceptions, more than double the next-closest finisher, and also added a fumble recovery. Jackson's 159 interception return yards both led the OVC in 2019 and ranked second in program history behind only Howell Flatt's 1966 campaign. When he wasn't providing lockdown protection, Jackson could often be found in the opposing backfield, with six of his 34 tackles coming for loss. He's Austin Peay's first defensive back to earn first-team All-OVC honors since Amius Smith in 2011. - Austin Peay Football

Seemingly every game, the Leeds, Alabama native was in the backfield causing mayhem, rolling up seven contests with multiple stops behind the line of scrimmage and serving as the focal point for a run defense which led the OVC and ranked fourth nationally with just 86.5 yards per game allowed. It marks the third straight year an Austin Peay defensive lineman has earned All-OVC honors, but if we're making the distinction, he's the first who has operated primarily as a defensive tackle since Dee Peeler in 2009. - Austin Peay Football

Once he cracked the rotation, he couldn't be removed and closed the regular season with authority, recording 2.5 of his four sacks and 7.5 of his 10 tackles for loss in the season's last five weeks.   JaVaughn Craig passed for two touchdowns and ran for another score, Baniko Harley scored three TDs, and Austin Peay beat Sacramento State 42-28 on Saturday in the second round of the FCS playoffs. Austin Peay plays at No. 5 seed Montana State in the quarterfinals. Craig was 18-of-28 passing for 204 yards with an interception and added 12 carries for 164 yards, including a 58-yard run that set up his 18-yard scramble for a score that gave the Governors (11-3) a 35-7 lead with 5:26 left in the third quarter.

Austin Peay punted on its first possession but then scored touchdowns on its next three drives. Craig hit DeAngelo Wilson for a 15-yard TD and Harley for a 3-yard score before a 45-yard touchdown run by Harley made it 21-0 late in the first quarter. The fourth-seeded Hornets (9-4) went three-and-out on their first four possessions and had just two first downs in the first half. The Governors, making their first appearance in the FCS playoffs, set a program record for wins in a season. Kevin Thomson accounted for all four Sacramento State touchdowns, two passing and two rushing. He finished with 306 yards passing - 275 in the second half - and added 87 yard rushing.   JaVaughn Craig threw two of this three touchdown passes in the third quarter when Austin Peay took control and rolled to a 42-6 win over Furman on Saturday in the Governors. first FCS playoff game. The game was delayed by weather several times. The Governors (10-3) play at fourth-seeded Sacramento State (9-3) next weekend. Craig completed a four-play 15-yard drive with a 15-yard pass to DeAngelo Wilson on the opening drive of the second half and 2 ½ minutes later dumped a pass over the middle to Kente Williams who went 73 yards to end zone. Turnovers set up the next two scores. On the first play after the long TD pass, Kordell Jackson recovered a fumble at the 33. Prince Momodu cashed that in with a 4-yard run after a pass play picked up 29. Tyriq Arties recovered a fumbled punt return at the 28 and on the fourth play Williams scored on a 1-yard run. Furman (8-5), making its 18th playoff appearance, came in as the No. 5 rushing team at 275.8 yards but picked up only 145 yards against the No. 5 run defense. The Paladins finished with 227 total yards. Craig went 18 of 23 for 264 yards. Williams had four catches for 103 yards and 11 rushes for 57 as Austin Peay picked up 434 yards. - AP College Football

  Four different schools took home the four major 2019 Ohio Valley Conference football awards in voting conducted by league head coaches and communication directors and announced on Tuesday. Tennessee State senior wide receiver/return specialist Chris Rowland was named Offensive Player of the Year, Eastern Kentucky senior defensive lineman Aaron Patrick was tabbed Defensive Player of the Year, UT Martin redshirt freshman quarterback John Bachus III was named the Freshman of the Year and first-year Austin Peay head coach Mark Hudspeth earned the Roy Kidd OVC Coach of the Year honor.

Austin Peay, which shared the OVC regular season championship (its first since 1977), had the most selections with 11 across the teams, including seven first-team picks, two second-team selections and two All-Newcomer honorees. UT Martin was second with 10 selections, including five first-team picks. The All-OVC first-team included 18 seniors, seven juniors and one sophomore while the second-team included 11 seniors, five juniors, 10 sophomores and one freshman. - Ohio Valley Football

  NOV 25 OHIO VALLEY OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: JaVaughn Craig, QB, 6-2, 210, Sr., Chattanooga, Tenn., Austin Peay,...Craig accounted for 292 yards of total offense and five touchdowns as Austin Peay topped Eastern Illinois 35-7 to cap a 7-1 OVC season, win its first OVC Championship since 1977 and earn its first-ever playoff berth. The senior completed 15-of-28 passes for 235 yards and three touchdowns and ran for a team-best 57 yards and two additional scores. He had a 13-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter to get the team on the board and added a nine-yard pass midway through the third quarter and a 40-yard strike five minutes later to cap the scoring.

His touchdown runs came on 5 and 19 yard runs in the second quarter. It marks the third time this season he has been named OVC Offensive Player of the Week. Craig ranks 12th nationally in passing yards per completion (14.26), 23rd in points responsible for (15.0/game) and 25th in passing touchdowns (22).   JaVaughn Craig threw three touchdowns and ran for two more and Austin Peay beat Eastern Illinois 35-7 for the Ohio Valley Conference championship on Saturday. Austin Peay (9-3, 7-1) owns the tiebreaker over Southeast Missouri State (9-3, 7-1) by virtue of its 28-24 win over the Redhawks on Oct. 12. Its only their second conference title, the last coming in 1977. The Governors -- ranked No. 19 in FCS -- set a single-season record for wins.

Craig threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to Baniko Harley with 4:51 left in the first quarter for the game's first score. Darshon McCullough's 47-yard TD run eight seconds into the second tied it up. Craig followed up with a 5-yard scoring run after a 5-play, 76-yard drive less than two minutes later. Then, his 19-yard touchdown run 68 seconds before halftime made it 21-7. McCullough ran for 110 yards on 20 carries for the Panthers' (1-11, 1-7) lone score. - AP College Football

  JaVaughn Craigthrew two touchdown passes to DeAngelo Wilson, Prince Momodu ran for two scores and Austin Peay overwhelmed Murray State 42-7 on Saturday. Austin Peay wrapped it up with three touchdowns in the fourth quarter. The Governors (8-3, 6-1 Ohio Valley) scored on their first drive of the game when Momodu crashed in from a yard out, ending a 10-play, 75-yard drive. In the second quarter, Craig threw a 40-yard touchdown to Wilson with 9:48 before halftime. After intermission, Momodu ran it in from 10 yards for a 21-0 lead. The Racers got on the board when Preston Rice threw a 27-yard score to Jonathan Moss. Rice threw for 220 yards, a score and two interceptions. Austin Peay is in tie for first place with Southeast Missouri State (8-3, 6-1). The Governors beat the Redhawks 28-24 last month. The Governors end the season next week against Eastern Illinois (1-10, 1-6) and Southeast Missouri State ends with Murray State. - AP College Football

  NOV 11 OVC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Josephus Smith, DL, 5-9, 285, R-Jr., Leeds, Ala., Austin Peay,...Smith had three tackles, all of which were for loss, including 2.0 total sacks in Austin Peay's 38-24 win over UT Martin. The win kept Austin Peay tied for first place in the OVC standings. His three stops led to 17 yards of lost offense for UTM. Smith anchored a defense that help the Skyhawks to -25 net rushing yards and equaled the school record with six total sacks. The Austin Peay defense currently ranks sixth in rushing defense (83.9 yards/game), 12th in total defense (312.1 yards/game) and 24th in passing efficiency defense (121.2).   Kentel Williams rushed for 118 yards and three touchdowns and Austin Peay breezed to a 38-24 victory over Tennessee-Martin on Saturday. After a scoreless first quarter, Austin Peay (7-3, 5-1 Ohio Valley Conference) caught fire in the second. Baniko Harley opened the scoring with a 7-yard TD run, capping a 10-play drive. The Governors stretched their lead to 14-0 when Kordell Jackson picked off a John Bachus III pass at their own 28-yard line. Two plays later Williams scored on a 67-yard run. Logan Birchfield's 23-yard field goal made it 17-0. Ryan Courtright's 50-yard field goal with 11 seconds left before halftime pulled UT Martin (6-4, 5-2) within 17-3.

Williams' 5-yard TD run at 6:59 in the third quarter put the Governors up 24-3. Williams had a 4-yard scoring run and Prince Momodu added a 17-yard TD run in the fourth quarter. Bachus threw three touchdown passes -- covering 6, 27 and 16 yards -- to Jaylon Moore in the second half for the Skyhawks. JaVaughn Craig completed 17 of 27 passes for 255 yards with an interception for Austin Peay. DeAngelo Wilson had six catches for 126 yards. Bachus was 20-of-41 passing for 286 yards with one pick for UT Martin. The Skyhawks had minus-25 yards rushing on 18 carries, while the Governors ran for 236 on 48 totes.
