  08/13/19 - Will HastingsrSr/2020, Auburn, 5-10, 175 (DS#167 WR) + More +

The receiving corps around him have changed since the last time he played. Guys like Seth Williams, Anthony Schwartz, Zach Farrar, Sal Cannella, and others, were not even on the roster when Hastings went off for 525 yards and four TDs in 2017. Now, he's going to fight to recapture that role in his final year at AU. "I think he'll have a chance to play in the NFL," Malzahn said of the 5-foot-10, 174-pound receiver. "Will, last year, not having him, it really hurt us. Will can get open versus anybody covering him in a man-to-man situation. He looks like he's about 13 years old, too. If you ever see him, you wouldn't think he's an SEC player."

Hastings has put on about six pounds over the offseason, and he is one of the oldest players on the team, and is also engaged. So though the boyish reputation might follow him around, there's been a lot of growing up for Hastings. Part of that, too, came with the injuries. While he was rehabbing from last spring's ACL surgery, he had to undergo another in October, just as he was getting ready to see the field again, his season was ended. The talk of the NFL from Malzahn, and other Auburn coaches, is a nice thought. And given his talent, who knows, maybe there is that pathway. But it will also be completely contingent on the health of his knee this season. Two ACL surgeries can be one heck of a deterrent. - Birmingham News

Auburn coach Gus Malzahn isn't ruling out Anthony Schwartz playing in the opener against Oregon after the wide receiver underwent hand surgery. Malzahn says Schwartz had the procedure on Monday. He didn't have a timetable for his return but says he's "not going to say yes or no" on whether the sophomore will miss a game. The Tigers and Oregon open Aug. 31 in Arlington, Texas. Schwartz, who missed spring practice while running for the track team, was a versatile threat for the Tigers as a freshman. He ran for 211 yards and five touchdowns and added 357 yards and a pair of scores receiving. - AP College Football

Auburn wide receiver Anthony Schwartz successfully underwent surgery to repair a broken bone in his hand on Monday, a source confirmed to AL.com. Schwartz injured his hand during a blocking drill in practice on Sunday, which was the Tigers' third practice of fall camp and the first day in shells.

The source did not know an estimated timeline for Schwartz's return. Auburn coach Gus Malzahn is expected to address Schwartz's status after Tuesday's practice, when he is scheduled to meet with the local media in the evening. Schwartz sent out a tweet on Monday afternoon thanking fans for their "thoughts and prayers." - Birmingham News

An explosive wide receiving corps that had just finally gotten healthy this fall is now dealing with another injury to a key player. Sophomore Anthony Schwartz suffered a hand injury during Sunday's practice, his mother, Jill Schwartz, confirmed to the Montgomery Advertiser. He will visit a doctor Monday to determine the severity of the injury and figure out next steps.

Brandon Marcello of 247Sports was the first to report the news of the injury. He also reports that Schwartz will, in fact, need surgery to repair a broken bone in his hand. Schwartz, a four-star signee out of Pembroke Pines, Florida, in the 2018 class, shined for the Tigers as a true freshman last season, using his elite speed to turn 22 catches into 357 yards and 27 carries into 211 more. He scored two receiving touchdowns and five on the ground. - Montgomery Advertiser

2019 PRESEASON RAY GUY AWARD WATCH LIST: Arryn Siposs, Auburn,...Siposs was one of 26 players named to the preseason watch list for the Ray Guy Award on Wednesday. The award, created in 2000, is given annually to the nation's top punter. Five of the last six winners have come from Australia, which bodes well for Siposs. The Aussie native arrived at Auburn last July and took over the starting job in the opener against Washington. In 13 games, he averaged 44.21 yards per punt - good for 18th nationally.

He also helped the Tigers finish fifth nationally in net punting yards (41.91). "He's got a chance to be elite," Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn said last week at SEC Media Days. "He didn't even know the rules until halfway through the season. He's starting to kick spirals now." Following media days, Siposs was voted to the All-SEC Second Team by the league's media. - Auburn Football

2019 PRESEASON OUTLAND TROPHY WATCH LIST: OT Prince Tega Wanogho, Auburn,...Wanogho, who started every game at left tackle season, was recently voted All-SEC First Team by the media. He, too, had the opportunity to turn pro but opted to return to Auburn for his senior season. "A very athletic young man," Malzahn said. "He came as a defensive end. We switched him to tackle about three-and-a-half years ago, and he started for the last two-and-a-half years and plays that left tackle position. He's projected as a high draft pick himself." - Auburn Football
