  09/14/19 - Feleipe FranksrSr/2021, Arkansas, 6-7, 234 (DS#12 QB) + More +

Florida quarterback Feleipe Franks has been carted off the field with a right leg injury late in the third quarter of the No. 9 Gators' Southeastern Conference game against Kentucky on Saturday night. Franks was scrambling before being stopped for no gain by the Wildcats' Calvin Taylor on a fourth-and-1 play at the Kentucky 38. Team medical personnel came on the field and soon placed an inflatable cast under Franks' right leg before the junior was placed on a cart and taken off for observation. Franks completed 12 of 17 passes for 174 yards and a 15-yard touchdown before the injury. Florida players swarmed around Franks on the cart to offer support before he was taken away to applause from a sold-out crowd at Kroger Field. - AP College Football

  09/10/19 - Ben HicksrSr/2020, Arkansas, 6-1, 217 (DS#999 QB) + More +

Nick Starkel has been named Arkansas' starting quarterback. Starkel, a graduate transfer who previously played for Texas A&M, will replace Ben Hicks for Saturday's game against Colorado State. After Hicks struggled Saturday against Mississippi, Starkel stepped in and went 17 for 24 for 201 yards and a touchdown. "It wasn't so much what Ben did or didn't do. It's what Nick did," coach Chad Morris said Monday. "We were looking for a spark, something to get our offense moving, create some momentum, create some yards, give an opportunity for some big plays." Morris' 14-game tenure as Arkansas coach has been pockmarked with problems. He won just two games in his first season with the Razorbacks in 2018 playing three different quarterbacks. - AP College Football

  08/31/19 - Rakeem BoydSr/2021, Arkansas, 5-11, 213 (DS#19 RB) + More +

Chad Morris was candid when asked about his team's offensive performance in a narrow season-opening 20-13 win against Portland State on Saturday. With 11 new starters on offense following last season's dismal 2-10 effort, the offensive mastermind whose offenses were explosive at both Tulsa and Clemson when he was the country's highest paid offensive coordinator, pulled no punches Saturday. "It was not the performance I wanted to see," Morris said. "Just very disappointed. We never got into a rhythm."

The Razorbacks rushed for 204 yards, which was a bright spot, Morris said. But the combined 18-of-35 passing effort from transfer quarterbacks Ben Hicks and Nick Starkel was well below what Morris envisioned when they joined the program. Junior running back Rakeem Boyd was a bright spot offensively for Arkansas with 114 yards on 18 carries. Boyd's third quarter touchdown, set up by a Jarques McClellion interception, gave Arkansas a little breathing room with a 17-6 lead with 2:20 left in the third quarter. - AP College Football

  08/24/19 - Feleipe FranksrSr/2021, Arkansas, 6-7, 234 (DS#12 QB) + More +

Feleipe Franks made up for three inexcusable turnovers by accounting for three touchdowns, doing just enough to help No. 8 Florida beat Miami 24-20 Saturday night in the opening game of the college football season. Franks threw for 254 yards and two scores and ran for another as the Gators won for just the second time in their last nine meetings with the Hurricanes. It was a fairly fitting performance for the junior who has been benched five times in three years.

Franks looked anywhere from good to great, from lost to downright awful. He was clutch one minute, dropping in a perfect pass to Freddie Swain that gained 65 yards and set up the go-ahead score, and looked confused the next, throwing right to a defender for his second interception of the night. Florida's defense bailed Franks out time and time again, finishing with 10 sacks and 16 tackles for a loss. - AP College Football

  08/12/19 - Rakeem BoydSr/2021, Arkansas, 5-11, 213 (DS#19 RB) + More +

Rakeem Boyd was unable to lift his left arm above his head when he arrived at Arkansas for preseason camp last year. But despite the bum shoulder and playing catch-up with the playbook for a chunk of the schedule, Boyd put together a solid season, one that sparked a great deal of excitement among coaches and fans as he enters his junior year. He averaged six yards per touch on a team-best 123 carries and ran for at least 99 yards in consecutive games against Alabama, Ole Miss, Tulsa and Vanderbilt last October. He became the first Razorbacks running back to top 100 yards against the Crimson Tide since Darren McFadden in 2007 - with McFadden in attendance.

Boyd also caught 23 passes out of the backfield, serving as a safety valve for Arkansas quarterbacks Ty Storey and Cole Kelley. Now, with one year in Chad Morris' system under his belt, he's grown much more comfortable and proficient within the offense. "My knowledge (of the playbook) has been really good," Boyd said Monday following the Razorbacks' ninth practice of the preseason. "I've paid attention to detail and really got in the playbook a little bit, and started watching a little film with my linemen. "I kind of like them to critique me every time I run the ball or make a pass play, or scan the defense. I've got a little bit better at it. Last year I just came in and wasn't ready to focus in. Now I'm just locked in." - Northwest Arkansas Times

  08/12/19 - Chase HarrellrSr/2020, Arkansas, 6-4, 257 (DS#23 TE) + More +

Harrell, who went from 220 to 251 pounds in the offseason and is now at 245 pounds, has a sense of urgency with this being his last season of college football. He will also become a father next month. "I've got to think of why I'm doing what I'm doing," Harrell said. " I actually have a child on the way. He's due in September. He's due the third game. Whenever it was hard I would hone in and realize what I'm doing it for. In order to be successful at this position you have to be an effective blocker and effective in the passing game, so I was really gaining weight for that."

Harrell, who had 30 catches for 302 yards and five touchdowns at Kansas, played in 10 games last season for the Razorbacks. He played 120 snaps with 58 coming at wide receiver. He had four catches for 60 yards in the season opener, but did not have a reception in the other nine games. He thought maybe a position change would be to his benefit. Harrell approached Arkansas tight ends coach Barry Lunney, Jr., near the end of the season about a possible position change. "I mentioned it to Coach Lunney with like two weeks left in the season," Harrell said. "I was like, 'Hey, you want me to put my hand in the dirt?' I was just kidding, but I guess they picked up on it and they wanted me to switch. After that he told me to just think about it. Then like two days later I was like, "Yeah, coach, I want to switch." - Northwest Arkansas Times

Harrell was listed as a WR coming out of Spring, also 215 pounds...so he put on 30 LBs. He was just adjusted and moved to TE. Arkansas will be in the first batch of Fall team cross checks starting next week with the SEC and the opening game rosters/depth charts. (Miami/Florida, etc)

  08/12/19 - Feleipe FranksrSr/2021, Arkansas, 6-7, 234 (DS#12 QB) + More +

Feleipe Franks' offseason included the typical work - lifting weights, throwing with receivers, studying film — and some unique adventures in his backyard. Franks and his four housemates, including a pair of 300-pound offensive linemen, organized "a little wrassling" in their pool. The rules were simple: First to get pushed, pulled, dragged or carried into the deep end and then fully submerged loses. Franks more than held his own in the friendly competitions, showing toughness and tenacity. Florida is counting on the same from its starting quarterback this season.

And if Franks is good, the Gators could be great. The 6-foot-6, 230-pound junior from Crawfordville is the ultimate X-factor in Gainesville. It's an odd dynamic considering he's a two-year starter and played the best football of his career down the stretch in 2018. But it's a reality for the Gators in coach Dan Mullen's second season. "The biggest thing for him is consistency," said Mullen, whose team finished 10-3 in 2018. "He has a much better grasp of the offense. But just his constant, his leadership. - AP College Football

  08/10/19 - Eric GregoryrSr/2025, Arkansas, 6-3, 319 (DS#45 DT) + More +

University of Arkansas freshman defensive end Eric Gregory is expected to miss at least four weeks after undergoing surgery to repair a high ankle sprain on Friday. Gregory suffered the injury earlier this week and was spotted at Thursday' practice wearing a walking boot on his left foot. Gregory is an early enrollee from Memphis via the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. Gregory, 6-4, 275 pounds, performed well in spring drills and had a couple of "sacks" in the Red-White game. - Northwest Arkansas Times

  08/06/19 - Noah GatlinrJr/2023, Arkansas, 6-6, 307 (DS#999 OT) + More +

Arkansas' offensive line is pushing forward after losing a piece during the first weekend of preseason practices. Razorbacks coach Chad Morris confirmed Monday afternoon in a brief meeting with the media that redshirt freshman offensive lineman Noah Gatlin, a native of Jonesboro, tore the ACL in his right knee on Friday in the team's first practice of the fall. The plan is for Gatlin, who played in four games last season, to undergo surgery on the knee toward the end of this week, Morris added.

"It's unfortunate," Morris said. "But that happens. It's football. You move on. He'll become a better person and a better player because of it. It's just some adversity that he'll have to go through." Morris is hopeful Gatlin will recover in time to participate in some spring practices in 2020. - Northwest Arkansas Times
