  2019 PRESEASON WALTER CAMP PLAYER OF YEAR PLAYERS TO WATCH: Zac Thomas, QB, Junior, Appalachian State,...Thomas is one of only five players from a Group of Five program on the list. He already has been named to the preseason watch lists for the Maxwell Award, another national player of the year honor, and the Davey O'Brien Award, which is presented annually to the nation's best college quarterback. Thomas' QBR of 79.8 in 2018 ranks ninth nationally among returning FBS quarterbacks.   2019 PRESEASON PAUL HORNUNG AWARD WATCH LIST: Darryton Evans, App State,...Evans ranked ninth nationally in 2018 by totaling 1,764 all-purpose yards, including a league-leading 1,187 rushing yards even though he didn't become App State's primary back until Game 5. His nine touchdowns included a 100-yard kickoff return against Penn State and a receiving touchdown against Louisiana. Evans averaged 6.6 yards per rush and 32.7 yards per kickoff return last season. He was one of only two players nationally with at least 1,000 rushing yards and 400-plus return yards. - App State Football

  2019 PRESEASON BRONKO NAGURSKI TROPHY WATCH LIST: LB Jordan Fehr, Appalachian State,...Listed at No. 33 overall and No. 3 among FBS linebackers on the 2019 "Freaks List" from The Athletic, Fehr had 86 tackles and a team-high 5.5 sacks in 2018 for a defense that ranked fourth nationally by allowing just 15.5 points per game.   2019 PRESEASON OUTLAND TROPHY WATCH LIST: OT Victor Johnson, Appalachian State,...Johnson started at left tackle in each of the previous three seasons and made the All-Sun Belt Conference first team each of the last two years. Named the league's best pass blocker by Lindy's, he's the most experienced member on an offensive line that has ranked in the top 25 nationally in both rushing yards per game and fewest sacks allowed for the last five years.

Johnson has made 38 starts since he started his first game as a redshirt freshman at Tennessee in the 2016 opener, and he's one of eight offensive tackles from a Group of Five conference program to be included on the 2019 watch list.   2019 PRESEASON BUTKUS AWARD WATCH LIST: Akeem Davis-Gaither, Appalachian State,...Davis-Gaither is one of only eight linebackers from a Group of Five program on the list, and he's the only Sun Belt Conference linebacker on the list. Davis-Gaither already had been named to the watch list for the Bednarik Award that goes to the College Defensive Player of the Year.

He amassed 105 tackles, 10.0 tackles for loss, seven pass breakups, 1.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and three quarterback hurries in 2018 for a defense that ranked fourth nationally in points allowed per game.   2019 PRESEASON JOHN MACKEY AWARD WATCH LIST: Collin Reed, SR, Appalachian St,...Reed leads active Sun Belt Conference tight ends with nine career touchdown catches, including eight during the previous two seasons. Only two players on the 2018 preseason watch list had more touchdown catches the previous year than Reed's five as an App State sophomore, and he added three more to his total as a junior.

All three of his TD catches in 2018 occurred in league play, including a road win in which he hauled in a 43-yard reception on App State's first play from scrimmage at Texas State.
