  09/14 WEEK 2 SWAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Jaylon Tolbert, Alcorn State,...The Senior from Fort Lauderdale, Florida displayed a career night in Alcorn State's SWAC Opener in the 37th Annual Southern Heritage Classic, throwing for 485 yards while going 32-for-45 and adding five touchdowns, willing his team back from a 14-point deficit to win 53-51 over Arkansas-Pine Bluff in double overtime Saturday, September 12. Tolbert made his impact on the ground game with seven rushes and 36 yards. Jaylon Tolbert's performance was recognized Nationally as he was also named the BOXTOROW HBCU Co-Player of the Week and an honorable mention for FCS Stats Perform Offensive Player the Week. Nationally in the FCS, Tolbert is ranked No. 4 with 869 passing yards while also being ranked in the top five with a 75 percent completion rate. As Tolbert continues to lead the offense under center, he adds his first weekly honor of the season. - SWAC Football

  09/14 WEEK 2 SWAC NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK: Ernest Temple, Alcorn State,...The Senior Running back from Chicago, Illinois added his best outing of the season so far with 18 rushes, 144 yards, 2 touchdowns, five receptions, 56 receiving yards and 200 all-purpose yards in the 37th Annual Southern Heritage Classic double overtime win against Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Temple was an integral part of the Braves' 214 rushing yards and 699 yards of total offense. Ernest Temple averaged 5.1 yards per carry and now leads the Braves with 187 rushing yards on the season. As the Braves prepare for their next matchup, Temple will be a player to keep an eye on as he earns his first weekly honor. - SWAC Football

  Reggie Davis ran for 80 yards and two touchdowns to lead Alcorn State to a 27-16 victory over Grambling on Saturday. Davis' 1-yard TD run capped an 11-play drive, 75-yard drive to give Alcorn State a 21-16 lead with 4:50 remaining. Grambling turned it over on downs on its next possession before forcing a three-and-out to get the ball back with three seconds left. The game ended on Eric Thomas' fumble return for a touchdown.

Davis carried the ball 18 times and also had a 1-yard TD run in the second quarter. Jacorian Sewell ran for an 8-yard touchdown in the first quarter for Alcorn State (5-6, 4-3 Southwestern Athletic Conference). Jaylon Tolbert was 23-of-30 passing for 167 yards. Tyrell Raby recovered a fumble and returned it 10 yards into the end zone late in the third quarter for Grambling (7-4, 4-3). Theodore Caballero kicked field goals from 29 and 27 yards.   Jaylon Tolbert threw for two touchdowns and he also ran for a score as Alcorn State rode a big third quarter to take down Southern 35-17 on Saturday. Reggie Davis led all rushers with 110 yards on 17 carries, and the Braves (4-6, 3-3 Southwestern Athletic Conference) racked up 259 total rushing yards. All of Tolbert's touchdowns came in the third quarter as Alcorn State pulled away. Omarion Blakes and Tylon Citizen each caught touchdowns, while Jarvis Rush (4 carries, 28 yards) rushed for a score. A Nathan Zimmer 42-yard field goal brought Southern (1-9, 0-6) within four points as time expired in the first half. Trey Holly rushed for Southern's only offensive touchdown, tallying 13 yards on 10 attempts. He also caught three passes for 30 yards. - AP College Football

  Jaylon Tolbert threw for 227 yards and three touchdowns Alcorn State beat Mississippi Valley State 32-10 on Saturday. Tolbert threw scoring passes of 10, 16 and 74 yards to Jarvis Rush, Ja'Coby Matthews and Tyran Warren, respectively. His 74-yard scoring pass to Warren a minute-and-a-half into the second half extended the Braves' (2-6, 1-3 Southwestern Athletic Conference) lead to 29-0. Tolbert completed 23 of 32 pass attempts and connected with nine different receivers. Matthews was the biggest recipient with seven receptions for 73 yards. Mississippi Valley State (1-6, 0-3) recorded its lone touchdown when Josh Brown completed a 27-yard scoring pass to Cameron Nelson with 5:43 left in the third quarter.   Jacorian Sewell ran for 177 yards, including a 99-yard touchdown, Reggie Davis added 139 yards on the ground and Alcorn State routed Lincoln of California 42-0 on Saturday. Sewell broke free from his own 1-yard line on the Braves' first drive. Moments later, Davis added a 92-yard scoring burst to make it 14-0 just five minutes into the contest.

Quarterback Jaylon Tolbert connected with Omarion Blakes on a three-yard touchdown pass late in the second quarter, sending the Braves (1-5) to halftime with a 21-0 advantage. Sewell struck again on a 55-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, followed by Tolbert's 38-yard touchdown strike to Tyran Warren. Tylon Citizen capped the scoring with a two-yard touchdown rush to make it 42-0 midway through the third. Lincoln is a traveling team that is not a member of the NCAA. He ranks tied for 20th in the FCS with 12 rushing touchdowns and is also currently ranked eighth in the FCS in rushing yards. Howard rushed for a season-high 299 yards and four touchdowns against Arkansas-Pine Bluff. He tallied 199 yards and a score on the ground in his debut against No. 10 Stephen F. Austin.   Andrew Smith's 50-yard interception return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter lifted Alcorn State to a 17-14 victory over Bethune-Cookman on Saturday. Jalon Jones' 9-yard touchdown run and his 10-yard scoring pass to Kemari Averett in the second half had rallied the Wildcats (5-5, 4-3 Southwestern Athletic Conference) to a 14-10 lead before Smith's pick-six of Jones with 4:39 remaining. Bethune-Cookman's fourth lost fumble ended the Wildcats' final possession. Jarveon Howard rushed for 129 yards on 32 carries with a touchdown for the Braves (2-8, 3-4). Jones was 22 of 34 for 228 yards passing. The Wildcats left their Daytona Beach campus on Wednesday because of the possible threat and disruption of Hurricane Nicole.   Jarveon Howard had 125 yards rushing that included a touchdown run in overtime and Alcorn State beat Prairie View A&M 23-16 on Friday night. Javonta Leatherwood's 5-yard touchdown run for Alcorn State tied the game 16-16 with 6:48 remaining. Howard scored on a 2-yard run to open the extra period before Tavarian McCullum intercepted a Trazon Connley pass to end it. Alcorn State (4-5, 3-3 Southwestern Athletic Conference) ended a three-game losing streak and has won the last five meetings against Prairie View A&M (5-4, 4-2). Connley threw a 24-yard touchdown pass to Colbey Washington and added a 20-yard TD run in the third quarter that gave the Panthers a 13-9 lead. Connley was 13 of 36 for 142 yards passing and finished with 38 yards rushing. Jaden Stewart added 94 yards on the ground. Howard's first touchdown run gave Alcorn State (3-2, 2-0 Southwestern Athletic Conference) a 7-0 first-quarter lead. Howard had a go-ahead touchdown run in the second quarter to put the Braves up 14-7 at halftime. The score was set up after the Braves recovered a fumble by MVSU (0-6, 0-3) quarterback Jamari Jones at the Delta Devils' 19-yard line. Noah Kiani's 30-yard field goal stretched Alcorn State's lead to 17-7 just 12 seconds into the fourth quarter. Howard added his third touchdown run and the Braves' final tally came on a scoop-and-score fumble return with a little over a minute left in the game.
