Reggie Davis ran for 80 yards and two touchdowns to lead Alcorn State to a 27-16 victory over Grambling on Saturday. Davis' 1-yard TD run capped an 11-play drive, 75-yard drive to give Alcorn State a 21-16 lead with 4:50 remaining. Grambling turned it over on downs on its next possession before forcing a three-and-out to get the ball back with three seconds left. The game ended on Eric Thomas' fumble return for a touchdown.

Davis carried the ball 18 times and also had a 1-yard TD run in the second quarter. Jacorian Sewell ran for an 8-yard touchdown in the first quarter for Alcorn State (5-6, 4-3 Southwestern Athletic Conference). Jaylon Tolbert was 23-of-30 passing for 167 yards. Tyrell Raby recovered a fumble and returned it 10 yards into the end zone late in the third quarter for Grambling (7-4, 4-3). Theodore Caballero kicked field goals from 29 and 27 yards. Jaylon Tolbert threw for two touchdowns and he also ran for a score as Alcorn State rode a big third quarter to take down Southern 35-17 on Saturday. Reggie Davis led all rushers with 110 yards on 17 carries, and the Braves (4-6, 3-3 Southwestern Athletic Conference) racked up 259 total rushing yards. All of Tolbert's touchdowns came in the third quarter as Alcorn State pulled away. Omarion Blakes and Tylon Citizen each caught touchdowns, while Jarvis Rush (4 carries, 28 yards) rushed for a score. A Nathan Zimmer 42-yard field goal brought Southern (1-9, 0-6) within four points as time expired in the first half. Jaylon Tolbert threw for 227 yards and three touchdowns Alcorn State beat Mississippi Valley State 32-10 on Saturday. Tolbert threw scoring passes of 10, 16 and 74 yards to Jarvis Rush, Ja'Coby Matthews and Tyran Warren, respectively. His 74-yard scoring pass to Warren a minute-and-a-half into the second half extended the Braves' (2-6, 1-3 Southwestern Athletic Conference) lead to 29-0. Tolbert completed 23 of 32 pass attempts and connected with nine different receivers. Matthews was the biggest recipient with seven receptions for 73 yards. Mississippi Valley State (1-6, 0-3) recorded its lone touchdown when Josh Brown completed a 27-yard scoring pass to Cameron Nelson with 5:43 left in the third quarter. Jacorian Sewell ran for 177 yards, including a 99-yard touchdown, Reggie Davis added 139 yards on the ground and Alcorn State routed Lincoln of California 42-0 on Saturday. Sewell broke free from his own 1-yard line on the Braves' first drive. Moments later, Davis added a 92-yard scoring burst to make it 14-0 just five minutes into the contest.

Quarterback Jaylon Tolbert connected with Omarion Blakes on a three-yard touchdown pass late in the second quarter, sending the Braves (1-5) to halftime with a 21-0 advantage. Sewell struck again on a 55-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, followed by Tolbert's 38-yard touchdown strike to Tyran Warren. Tylon Citizen capped the scoring with a two-yard touchdown rush to make it 42-0 midway through the third. Lincoln is a traveling team that is not a member of the NCAA. Jalon Jones' 9-yard touchdown run and his 10-yard scoring pass to Kemari Averett in the second half had rallied the Wildcats (5-5, 4-3 Southwestern Athletic Conference) to a 14-10 lead before Smith's pick-six of Jones with 4:39 remaining. Bethune-Cookman's fourth lost fumble ended the Wildcats' final possession. Jarveon Howard rushed for 129 yards on 32 carries with a touchdown for the Braves (2-8, 3-4). Jones was 22 of 34 for 228 yards passing. The Wildcats left their Daytona Beach campus on Wednesday because of the possible threat and disruption of Hurricane Nicole. Alcorn State (4-5, 3-3 Southwestern Athletic Conference) ended a three-game losing streak and has won the last five meetings against Prairie View A&M (5-4, 4-2). Connley threw a 24-yard touchdown pass to Colbey Washington and added a 20-yard TD run in the third quarter that gave the Panthers a 13-9 lead. Connley was 13 of 36 for 142 yards passing and finished with 38 yards rushing. Jaden Stewart added 94 yards on the ground. After transferring into Alcorn at the end of the 2019 campaign, he was sidelined for the duration of the 2020-21 athletic year due to the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic. In his first playing season for the Purple and Gold in fall of 2021, the former Vanderbilt Commodore finished the season 10th in the league with 668 receiving yards (16.7 yards/reception) and five touchdowns. 2022 PRESEASON ALL-SWAC SECOND TEAM: Running Back: Niko Duffey, Alcorn State,...Duffey, a 5-11, 175-pound junior running back from Tampa, Florida, finished the 2021 campaign ranked fourth in the SWAC with 805 rushing yards (73.2 yards/game) and four touchdowns on his way to being voted to the All-SWAC Second Team Offense at the end of the season. The Jefferson High product also stepped out of the backfield to post 18 receptions for 181 yards and one touchdown. Throughout the campaign, Duffey had a string of three consecutive games in which he eclipsed 100 yards rushing in contests against Arkansas-Pine Bluff (142 yds), Grambling State (138 yds) and Mississippi Valley State (138 yds), respectfully.
