The quarterback room at Colorado State took a big hit in depth this week. Boston College transfer Matt Valecce is out for the season after suffering a "lower body injury," coach Steve Addazio said after Saturday's scrimmage at Canvas Stadium. Valecce was injured in practice this week. He was brought in as someone with three seasons of college experience to push Todd Centeio for the starting job and provide a dose of experience in a backup role in a young QB room. Valecce, a 6-foot-5, 225 pound redshirt junior, played sparingly in six games in one season during his three years at Boston College and completed just 3 of 7 passes for 18 yards. "We've got to worry about our backup quarterback situation right now," Addazio said. "The young guys, they're looking good, but they're young guys. We've got to find a way to get them ready." - Fort Collins Coloradoan

  08/15/21 - AJ BeattyrJr/2025, Albany + More +

North Carolina redshirt freshman center AJ Beatty entered the transfer portal, the school announced on Monday. Beatty is the second player to transfer recently, joining defensive back Javon Terry, who announced his decision over the weekend. UNC coach Mack Brown has said in the past that he liked to recruit players who live within a drive of Chapel Hill to help with retention. Beatty was a 6-foot-5, 285-pound native of Pittsburgh. He was behind both Brian Andersen and Quiron Johnson at the position. The Tar Heels' offensive line is considered vastly improved, and returned all of its starters from last season. Terry played in the area at Wake Forest High School, but also found himself behind in the depth chart. The 6 -foot-2, 185-pound safety played in all 13 games the 2019 season. He opted out of playing the 2020 season when the pandemic was still casting a large shadow over whether or not it would be completed. - Raleigh News Observer
