  WEEK 13 MAC CO-SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYERS OF THE WEEK: Matthew Schramm, Akron, Kicker, R-Fr., Dublin, Ohio (Dublin Coffman),...Matthew Schramm was responsible for 13 of the Zips 19 points in the regular season finale win over Bowling Green on Tuesday. Schramm made all four field goal attempts, splitting the uprights from 48, 39, 37 and 30 yards. In addition, he made his only extra point attempt in the Zips 19-16 road wind. Schramm also had a 47-yard kickoff. The 48-yard field goal was a career-high, replacing the previous week's 44-yarder. - MAC Football

  Matthew Schramm kicked four field goals, including a career-long 48-yarder, and Jordan Gant rushed for 86 yards to lead Akron over Bowling Green 19-16 in the final game of the season for both teams on Tuesday night. Gant finished with 1,032 on the season. Gant entered the game as the 13th-leading rusher (946 yards) in FBS football. After either side exchanged field goals in the first and second quarters, Schramm made his career best to open the third for the Zips (5-7, 4-4 Mid-American). The Falcons had the first touchdown when Hunter Najm found Jacob Harris for 21-yard strike at the 3:53 mark of the third. The Zips responded with a 75-yard touchdown strike on the next play from scrimmage with Ben Finley finding Israel Polk.

The Falcons (3-8, 1-6) defense forced a stop on three downs with 2:12 remaining. A 15-yard return from Brennan Ridley set up the Falcons at the Akron 42-yard line, but Najm threw an interception to Bruno Dall with a minute remaining. Gant broke free for an 18-yard carry to seal the result. Bowling Green finished with 272 yards of offense. The Falcons entered averaging 300.3 yards per game, 128th in FBS football. Both quarterbacks finished 9-of-26 passing with one touchdown. Finley had an interception. Najm threw two. It was a second-to-last-place MAC finish in a debut season for Bowling Green's Heisman Trophy-winning head coach, Eddie George.   WEEK 11 MAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Gage Summers, Akron, LB, Sr. (R), Chandler, Ariz. (ALA-Queen Creek),...For the second week in a row, Gage Summers collected two turnovers for the Zips defense, recording two fumble recoveries and taking one of them 25 yards for a defensive touchdown. His defensive touchdown marked the first of his career, while also registering his first career fumble recovery. The Akron defense limited the UMass offense to 169 total yards, keeping UMass under 100 yards on both the ground and through the air. The Zips allowed only 92 passing and 77 rushing yards. This was the first time since September 12, 2009, that the Zips kept an opponent under 200 total yards (Morgan State, 127 yrds). - MAC Football

Spriggs paced the Zips defense with 14 tackles, including 8 solo stops. He also led the squad in tackles for loss with 3.5 takedowns for loss of 15 yards. In addition, Spriggs collected half of the Zips total sacks, registering 2.5 sacks for 14 yards of loss. - MAC Football

  Ben Finley threw two touchdown passes and ran for a score, Jordan Gant added 153 yards rushing and two touchdowns, and Akron beat winless Massachusetts 44-10 on Tuesday night. Finley threw both touchdown passes in the first quarter as Akron jumped out to a 14-0 lead. UMass scored all 10 of its points inside the last six minutes of the opening quarter. Finley and Gant each had a short-yardage TD run in the second and the Zips led 27-10 at halftime.

Gage Summers scored on a 25-yard fumble return in the third quarter for Arkon. (4-6, 3-3 Mid-American Conference). Gant added a 9-yard touchdown run early in the fourth. AJ Hairston tossed a 1-yard touchdown pass to Magnus Von Saldern and Derek Morris kicked a 55-yard field goal for the Minutemen (0-9, 0-5).   Quarterback Ben Finley threw two touchdowns and added a rushing score in the second half to lead Akron over Buffalo, 24-16 on Saturday. The Zips (3-6, 2-3 Mid-American) were down 10-3 coming out of halftime. Finley found Kyan Mason for a 9-yard touchdown to tie the score, and Conner Cravaack on a 5-yard throw into the end zone to take the lead. Finley's 38-yard run made it 24-13 for Akron. Finley went 17-for-32, with 230 yards in the air and 12 yards on the ground. The win snapped a seven-game losing streak against Buffalo (4-4, 3-1) dating back to 2017. Gage Summers intercepted the ball with 33 seconds left on the clock to seal the victory for Akron. The Zips' defense forced five turnovers, the most in a game since 2021. Bulls quarterback Ta'Quan Roberson had 266 yards and one touchdown, and was intercepted and sacked four times. - Akron/AP College Football

  WEEK 4 MAC FOOTBALL OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Jordan Gant, Akron, RB, R-Junior, Lakeland, Fla. (Kathleen HS - Tennessee State)...Jordan Gant fueled the Akron Zips offense in a 51-7 win over Duquesne. The Zips registered 514 yards of total offense, including 265 yards on the ground. Gant was responsible for 161 yards rushing on only 13 carries, recording 12.4 yards per rush. Gant found the endzone three times, scoring 21 of the Zips 51 points. Gant set a career high in all three categories, rushing yards, touchdowns and yards per rushing attempt. - MAC Football

  Jordan Gant rushed for three first-half touchdowns and Akron picked up its first win of the season with a 51-7 victory over Duquesne. Akron (1-3) scored 28 points in the second quarter on its way to a 38-0 halftime lead including Malcom DeWalt IV's 17-yard pick-6 and Ben Finley's 20-yard touchdown pass to Kyan Mason. Gant finished with a career-high 161 yards on 13 carries. He's the first Akron player to rush for at least 150 yards since Teon Dollard, who had 185 against Bowling Green in 2020.

The last Zip with three rushing touchdowns was Cam Wiley on Nov. 8, 2022 against Eastern Michigan. Finley was 15-of-25 passing for 219 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Duquesne's Ness Davis broke loose for a 74-yard run to the Akron 1 and Logan Kushner dove in for the touchdown late in the third quarter to deny the Zips their first shutout since 2015 when the beat Kent State 20-0. Stepney did it all for Central Michigan in 2022 as he started 10 games at safety, returned kicks on special teams, and even played running back. He concluded the year with 40 tackles (25 solo) with eight pass breakups and one tackle for loss on defense, returned eight kicks for 214 yards (26.8 average) with a long of 60 yards on special teams, and rushed 11 times for five yards and a touchdown on offense.   2022 ALL-MID-AMERICAN CONFERENCE FIRST TEAM: Linebacker - Bubba Arslanian, Akron,...A team captain, Arslanian earned all-conference accolades for the second time, as he was tabbed a First-Team All-MAC honoree after turning in a dominant season as one of the premier linebackers in both the MAC as well as the NCAA in 2022, leading the defensive efforts for the Zips. Becoming the fifth Akron linebacker to earn first-team league recognition, he is rated fifth in the NCAA in total tackles per contest (8.36), seventh in total tackles (376), eighth in assisted tackles (194) and 18th in solo tackles (182) and solo tackles per tilt (4.04).

Additionally, he ranks 15th among active career leaders in the NCAA across all divisions in total tackles (376) and in assisted tackles (194), 36th in solo tackles (182) and 57th in total tackles per game (8.36). In MAC play, Arslanian ranks second in the league in assisted tackles (44), third in tackles per game (10.7) and fifth in overall tackles (75), while adding 31 solo tackles. Arslanian has had 10 or more total tackles in 24 of the last 33 games he has played in overall.   2022 ALL-MID-AMERICAN CONFERENCE THIRD TEAM: Wide Receiver - Shocky Jacques-Louis, Akron,...Jacques-Louis, a team captain, is the 12th Zips' WR to pull in All-MAC accolades, joining first-team selections Jabari Arthur (2005) and Adams, second-team honorees Lavel Bailey (2000), Matt Cherry (2003), Domenik Hixon (2005), David Harvey (2006) and JoJo Natson (2016), as well as third-team recipients Deryn Bowser (2008), Andre Jones (2008), Jalil Carter (2009) and Marquelo Suel (2012). Jacques-Louis has pulled in a team-best 69 catches this season for 837 yards, including a pair of touchdowns. Averaging 12.1 yards per reception, he has surpassed the 100-yard receiving plateau in four games on the campaign, including a season-high 152 yards at Ohio on Oct. 8, while registering 103 yards on the strength of nine catches at Tennessee on Sept. 17.

Jacques-Louis is ranked 16th in the NCAA (FBS) in receptions per game (6.3), 28th in receptions (69) and 45th in receiving yards per contest (76.1). He leads the MAC in receptions per game (6.3), while ranking third in receiving yards (837) and fourth in receiving yards per tilt (76.1). He joins James Washington and Charlie Frye, who garnered second-team all-conference honors in 2000 and 2005, respectively. Irons has started each of the 10 games he has appeared in for the Zips this season en route to throwing for 2,606 yards on the strength of a .668 completion percentage and 14 touchdowns, including 10 through the air.

Irons' 2,606 passing yards ranks as the eighth-best single-season effort in program history, while his 260.6 passing average stands as the fourth-best single-season mark. He has completed 25 or more passes in six of 10 games he has appeared, including a string of four straight for the Zips. He has completed 60 percent or more of his passes in seven of Akron's 11 games this season. Irons is rated eighth in the NCAA in completions per game (25.30), 19th in completion percentage (.668), 28th in passing yards per game (260.6) and 50th in passing yards (2,606), while ranking second in the MAC in completion percentage, passing yards and total offense (291.9) and sixth in overall passing (129.5). Additionally, Irons connected on a school-record 43 completions against Ohio on Oct. 8 finishing the game 43-of-54 for a career-high 418 yards passing.
