  11/26/21 - Brad RobertsSr/2023, Air Force, 5-11, 210 (DS#42 RB) + More +

Brad Roberts rushed for two touchdowns, Emmanuel Michel ran for 123 yards and a score as Air Force rolled up 511 yards on the ground to defeat UNLV 48-14 in a season-ender on Friday. Michel carried 12 times and scored from the 2-yard line in the third quarter as 14 players ran the ball for the Falcons (9-3, 6-2 Mountain West Conference). Air Force attempted no passes but had 69 running plays and more than a 20-minute advantage in time of possession. Roberts scored both his touchdowns in the first quarter, scoring on runs of 1 and 3 yards.

Brandon Lewis scored in the second quarter as Air Force gained 181 yards on the ground in the first half, leading 24-0. Lewis took a pitch right and flashed through a hole in the line, accelerating down the far sideline for a 41-yard touchdown run. The Falcons had rolled up 413 yards rushing after three quarters, carrying a 41-7 lead into the fourth. Air Force finished tied atop the conference's Mountain Division standings with Utah State but lost to the Aggies by four points in September. Charles Williams carried 16 times for 137 yards and scored both touchdowns for UNLV (2-10, 2-6). Justin Rogers was 8-for-18 passing for 127 yards. - Air Force/AP College Football

  11/19/21 - DeAndre HughesSr/2023, Air Force, 5-08, 175 (DS#999 WR) + More +

DeAndre Hughes rushed for a school-record 279 yards - scoring two touchdowns and adding a successful 2-point conversion run in the third overtime - to lift Air Force to a 41-39 victory over Nevada in Mountain West Conference play on Friday night. Hughes ran for 122 yards and a score - a 10-yard TD run in a 17-point second quarter - as the Falcons (8-3, 5-2) took a 17-3 lead into halftime. Carson Strong came out firing for the Wolf Pack (7-4, 4-3) in the second half. He connected with Cole Turner for a 13-yard TD to get Nevada within 17-10 before Hughes answered with a 9-yard scoring run for a 24-10 Air Force lead heading into the fourth quarter. Nevada recovered a Haaziq Daniels fumble and Strong fired a 61-yard scoring strike to Romeo Doubs on first down to pull the Wolf Pack within 24-17 midway through the quarter and then hit Turner for a 2-yard score with 3:13 left, sending the game to OT.

Air Force had the ball first and took the lead on Dane Kinamon's 2-yard TD run, but Toa Taua answered with a 6-yard TD run for Nevada to send the game to a second OT. The Wolf Pack took a 39-31 lead when Strong connected with Doubs for a 25-yard TD on first down before adding a 2-point conversion toss to Turner. Air Force knotted the score on Brad Roberts' 1-yard TD run and Hughes' 2-point run. New rules this season state that after two overtimes the teams will take turns trying to score 2-point conversions until a winner is decided. The Falcons were successful thanks to Hughes, while the Wolf Pack came up short. Hughes set his rushing record on 23 carries. Roberts carried 28 times for 111 yards as Air Force piled up 522 yards on the ground. Strong completed 25 of 43 passes for 346 yards and four TDs with one interception. Doubs caught 16 passes for 159 yards. - Air Force/AP College Football

  11/14/21 - Haaziq DanielsrSr/2023, Air Force, 6-0, 209 (DS#47 QB) + More +

Haaziq Daniels threw for two touchdowns, including a 92-yarder for the longest pass in school history, and Air Force turned back Colorado State 35-21 on Saturday night for its fifth straight win. The Falcons (7-3, 4-2 Mountain West Conference) grabbed the lead on their first possession on John Lee Eldridge III's only carry - a 16-yard TD run. Milton Bugg III picked off a Todd Centeio pass on Colorado State's ensuing drive and Brad Roberts carried seven times, scoring on a 6-yard run for a 14-0 lead and accounting for 40 of the 42 yards on the drive. After Centeio scored on a 15-yard run to get the Rams within 14-7 with 59 seconds left in the first quarter, Daniels needed just one play - the school-record scoring strike to Brandon Lewis - for a 21-7 lead.

David Bailey's 1-yard TD run was the only scoring in the third quarter and left CSU trailing 21-14. Daniels gave Air Force a two-possession lead with a 20-yard TD pass to Dane Kinamon midway through the third quarter before the Rams answered with Bailey's 14-yard TD run to make it 28-21. Roberts' 4-yard TD run with 7 seconds left in the quarter capped the scoring. Daniels completed 4 of 11 passes for 121 yards with one interception for the Falcons. It was the first time the junior two-year starter had two TD passes in the same game. He had three scoring strikes coming into the game. Roberts ran for 151 yards on 32 carries. DeAndre Hughes rushed for 107 of the Falcons' 386 yards on the ground - carrying just eight times. Centeio completed 13 of 22 passes for 173 yards with two picks for the Rams (3-7, 2-4). - Air Force/AP College Football

  10/17/21 - Brad RobertsSr/2023, Air Force, 5-11, 210 (DS#42 RB) + More +

Brad Roberts rushed for 138 yards and two touchdowns, Air Force's defense turned in another stifling performance, and the Falcons knocked off Boise State 24-17 Saturday night. Air Force (6-1, 3-1 Mountain West Conference), which hasn't started a season this well since 2002 when the Falcons began the season 6-0 before finishing 8-5, snapped a four-game losing streak to the Broncos. After giving up two touchdowns on Boise State's first three possessions, Air Force's defense took over. "We really settled in after the first three series and made some big plays when we really needed them," Air Force coach Troy Calhoun said. "We were able to keep them out of the end zone and came up with some key stops, even at the end of the game to hold them to just a field goal." Boise State (3-4, 1-2) lost its third home game of the season, the first time that has happened since 1998.

It's also the first time the Broncos have lost three straight at home since 1997. "Everyone knows what the standard is here, whether it's on the road or at home," Boise State coach Andy Avalos said. "The standard is the competitive nature and the standard we have on the field is that it gives us an opportunity to be successful. And there are a lot of things we have to continue to improve on...We had some opportunities and we didn't execute." After falling behind early, Air Force employed the nation's top rushing attack to grind down Boise State and take a 21-14 halftime lead. - Air Force/AP College Football

Brad Roberts had 33 carries for 140 yards and a touchdown, Haaziq Daniels threw a TD pass and Air Force beat Wyoming 24-14 on Saturday night. Daniels finished 7-of-10 passing for 110 yards, including a 13-yard touchdown to Micah Davis that gave Air Force (5-1, 2-1 Mountain West) the lead for good at 21-14 with 5:46 left in the third quarter. Roberts scored on a 1-yard run that capped a 15-play, 75-yard opening drive that took more than 8 minutes off the clock and the Falcons never trailed. Sean Chambers scored on a 1-yard run with 2:39 left in the second quarter for Wyoming (4-1, 0-1) and then threw a 10-yard TD pass to Isaiah Neyor to make it 14-all just before halftime. Dane Kinamon scored on a 2-yard run for Air Force early in the second quarter. - Air Force/AP College Football

Brad Roberts ran for 142 yards and scored twice as Air Force scored on its first four drives to build a big early lead then coasted to a 38-10 win over New Mexico on Saturday. The Falcons' defense contributed four takeaways and four sacks - 3 1/2 by Vince Sanford. Air Force (4-1, 1-1 Mountain West) limited the Lobos (2-3, 0-1) to 189 total yards, 143 in the second half after the Falcons had already pushed its lead to 31-0 early in the third quarter. DeAndre Hughes ran for 89 and a touchdown for Air Force. New Mexico quarterback Terry Wilson Jr. was 13-21 for 142 yards and a touchdown pass. - Air Force/AP College Football

  09/28/21 - Haaziq DanielsrSr/2023, Air Force, 6-0, 209 (DS#47 QB) + More +

Air Force's Haaziq Daniels didn't just break the longest run of the weekend when he went 94 yards for a touchdown against Florida Atlantic. It was the longest by a Football Bowl Subdivision quarterback in 18 years. Daniels' big run was the second of his two touchdowns in a 31-7 win and the longest in program history, breaking the 50-year-old record of 88 yards by Joel Carlson against Army. The last quarterback to run so far was Rice's Kyle Herm, who went 95 yards against Nevada in 2003. - AP College Football

  09/26/21 - Haaziq DanielsrSr/2023, Air Force, 6-0, 209 (DS#47 QB) + More +

Haaziq Daniels ran for two early touchdowns, including a 94-yard jaunt, and Air Force scored the game's first 24 points in a 31-7 victory over Florida Atlantic on Saturday. The Falcons' ground game was at its best. Air Force rushed for 309 yards in the first half and finished with 446. Daniels had 164 rushing yards and completed 2 of 4 passes for 70 yards to give the Falcons a total of 516 for the game. Micah Davis added 93 yards and Brad Roberts ran for 77 yards for the Falcons (3-1).

After Daniels scored on a run of 4 yards midway through the first quarter, his 94-yarder on the next possession broke the game open. Roberts added a 24-yard TD run in the second quarter and the Falcons added a field goal for a 24-0 lead. FAU quarterback N'Kosi Perry scored on a 34-yard run to make the halftime score 24-7. AFA's Davis closed out the scoring with a 6-yard TD run late in the third quarter. Perry was ineffective in the passing game, completing just 11 of 33 attempts for 78 yards. The Owls managed only 219 yards total offense. - Air Force/AP College Football

  09/11/21 - Brad RobertsSr/2023, Air Force, 5-11, 210 (DS#42 RB) + More +

No matter the result, this was going to be a special day to play football for Air Force or Navy. Brad Roberts ran for two touchdowns and Haaziq Daniels added one, and Air Force held the Midshipmen to one first down before the fourth quarter in a 23-3 victory Saturday. The outcome always matters between these two teams - but this game was significant because the two service academies were playing on the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. "For me, it kind of puts everything in perspective," Navy running back Chance Warren said. "I'm sitting here sour and very upset about a loss, but 20 years ago today, so many people lost loved ones. So it just kind of put it in perspective that ... I'm out here playing college football with some of my best friends, and brothers for life." This was the earliest meeting in series history between these teams, scheduled with 9/11 in mind.

The pregame pageantry felt even more meaningful than usual. The players took the field carrying American flags before the game. At halftime, the names of Navy and Air Force grads lost on 9/11 were put on the videoboard. "I think in the big picture you come to the Air Force and Naval Academy to serve," Air Force coach Troy Calhoun said. "We'll never ever forget, not only those that perished and their families, but certainly just the remarkable, the way they answered the duty, in terms of our first responders." Roberts ran for a 3-yard TD in the second quarter, and Daniels scored on a 28-yard run in the final minute of the third. That was plenty of offense for Air Force (2-0) on a day the Falcons held Navy (0-2) without a completed pass through the first three quarters. "We just stayed aggressive and just played our keys and played how we could play," Air Force linebacker Demonte Meeks said. "And didn't go outside of ourselves at all. I think that was the key for us." - Air Force/AP College Football

  09/04/21 - Haaziq DanielsrSr/2023, Air Force, 6-0, 209 (DS#47 QB) + More +

Haazig Daniels ran for three touchdowns and Air Force beat Lafayette 35-14 on Saturday. Daniels' third TD run, a 19-yarder with just over six minutes left, gave the Falcons their first score of the second half and ensured their 15th straight season-opening victory and their 25th win without a loss against FCS opponents. Daniels and Micah Davis ran for two touchdowns apiece in the first half when the Falcons outrushed the Leopards 199-27. But Lafayette's defense toughened in the second half and the Leopards got within 28-14 midway through the third quarter on Selwyn Simpson's 3-yard run.

Davis gave the Falcons a comfortable cushion with his third score and Corvan Taylor followed with an Air Force interception. Brad Roberts had 25 carries for 111 yards and Davis added 101 on just four attempts. Daniels had 72 yards rushing and 50 passing. The Falcons outrushed Lafayette 375-43. Julius Young made nine receptions for 146 yards and a score for the Leopards. The Leopards' trip to Colorado was their farthest in 140 seasons of football. - Air Force/AP College Football

  08/21/21 - Brad RobertsSr/2023, Air Force, 5-11, 210 (DS#42 RB) + More +

There is some confusion around the exact position Brad Roberts will play in Air Force's backfield this year. Even for Roberts. He played tailback as a freshman. He was a fullback last year in a breakout sophomore campaign. He's listed as the top tailback on the depth chart. He's playing fullback in practice. "Right now I'm at fullback," Roberts said. "I'm staying at fullback, I think. But there's plays where I go to tailback. "I think I'm fullback. But honestly, I'm not too sure." The thing is, it doesn't really matter. Air Force's offense constantly shifts around positions and responsibilities in its backfield, motioning before the snap and utilizing different formations and personnel groups with virtually each play.

If you're lining up as a fullback, tailback or slot receiver you could wind up blocking, taking a handoff or running wide for a sweep or as a pitch man. "I was a little bit skeptical about moving to fullback," Roberts said when reflecting on a shortened sophomore season that saw him run for a team-high 461 yards and five touchdowns in just four games. "But just seeing how much space you have at fullback and getting a whole field vision, I feel like I'm more of a north-to-south runner vs. east to west, and I feel like the fullback gives me the best chance to have an opportunity to capitalize on it." - Colorado Springs Gazette

  08/20/21 - Tre Bugg IIIrSr/2022, Air Force, 5-11, 189 (DS#86 CB) + More +

Milton Bugg III seized the rare opportunity in life to press pause, take a step back, and hone in on exactly what he needed to improve upon. The results will be seen in Falcon Stadium this fall. Bugg - known as Tre' to all in his orbit - was among a handful of Air Force defenders with starting experience who opted for a turnback during the 2020 season when it became an option for the cadet wing. He returned home to Arizona but took with him the knowledge gained as a two-year starter that allowed him to take a surgical approach to the work he put in on his own.

"I worked out a lot," Bugg said. "Definitely studied a lot of film. Even though I wasn't playing, I still wanted to keep my mind sharp." The heaviest Bugg weighed during the 2019 season was 163 pounds. Now he's up to 183. "I think the thing is, he is stronger," coach Troy Calhoun said. "Goodness gracious. He took it to heart. There's always guys who say I'm always going to work on my game - on the strengths of my game. I think a real competitor is somebody who wants to work on the areas that aren't right now advantages. Tre's done that. He's added more strength and more power. The other part, just what he takes to heart when it comes to being a good tackler." - Colorado Springs Gazette

  08/17/21 - Lakota WillisrSr/2022, Air Force, 6-3, 238 (DS#999 OLB) + More +

Lakota Wills hopes focusing on prehab will alleviate his need for rehab. The Air Force outside linebacker goes to the trainer's room before practice for "exercises you wouldn't normally do" to limber and strengthen joints and optimize his health. He has put an emphasis on "stress loading and doing the right things to get out to practice." Even last year, when he was away for the fall semester on a turnback, he resisted the urge for Domino's pizzas when he was working as a delivery driver for the restaurant in his native Washington. If there's a step Wills can take to stay on the field, he's going to explore it. "No one, I mean no one, since I've been here has worked harder than Lakota," said coach Troy Calhoun, who is entering his 15th season with the Falcons.

"Yet more than anything else, one of the most rewarding things, truly, I've seen since I've been in coaching is just seeing the growth he's made as a young man. He has a lot of leadership aptitude. I think for himself, he's starting to discover that more and more as time passes, too." Calhoun said he's been singing those same praises to NFL scouts, who have been asking about the 6-foot-3, 240-pound senior. "It's definitely still a goal for me," Wills said of the NFL. Wills, a starter since his second game in his freshman year, has numbers to tell his story, too. He has played in 28 games, making 104 tackles with 16.5 coming for loss (totaling 57 yards) and 6.5 sacks. - Colorado Springs Gazette

  05/24/21 - Donald Hammond IIISr/2021, Air Force, 6-0, 228 (DS#24 QB) + More +

Former Air Force quarterback Donald Hammond III flew to Green Bay on Sunday and will try out with the Green Bay Packers on Tuesday, a source told The Gazette. Hammond, who did not sign with a team after going undrafted last month, had drawn at least niche interest prior to the draft from experts who liked the arm strength and abilities possessed by the 6-foot-1, 228-pound Georgia native. At Air Force, Hammond set a program record in passing efficiency (164.09) and average yards per completion (20.6). He led the team to a 11-2 record and No. 21 national ranking in his lone season as full-time starter. An academic violation prior to his senior year led to a drop in cadet status and caused Hammond to miss the season. He then separated from the academy under an agreement that will likely require him to pay back the cost of his education. - Colorado Springs Gazette
