11/28/25 - RB Roman Hemby, rSr/2026, Indiana + More +

Kaelon Black had two touchdown runs and Fernando Mendoza and Roman Hemby each ran for scores as No. 2 Indiana beat rival Purdue 56-3 on Friday night, completing the first perfect regular season in school history and securing a Big Ten championship game berth. The Hoosiers (12-0, 9-0, No. 2 CFP) also likely locked up a second straight College Football Playoff berth. They'll find out Saturday whether they'll play No. 1 Ohio State, No. 5 Oregon or No. 15 Michigan a week later for the conference title. Indiana celebrated by hoisting the Old Oaken Bucket in the series' 100th trophy game, while Curt Cignetti became the first Indiana coach since Bo McMillin in 1934-35 to win his first two matchups against Purdue.

Purdue (2-10, 0-9) endured more misery in the coldest game ever played at Ross-Ade Stadium, with a kickoff temperature of 24 degrees Fahrenheit. The Boilermakers closed coach Barry Odom's first season with a 10th straight loss and posted their second straight winless season in conference play, the first since 1919-20. It took the Hoosiers a quarter to adapt to the chilly conditions. Mendoza, who grew up in Miami and previously attended California, struggled. He went 8 of 15 for 117 yards and two TDs in less than three quarters. So the Hoosiers flipped the script. Black opened the scoring with a 1-yard run, Mendoza scooted 7 yards to make it 14-3 early in the second quarter, and Black spun away from a defender for a nimble 16-yard TD run with 3:40 to play in the first half. Hemby closed out the first-half scoring with an 82-yard TD run down Purdue's sideline, stiff-arming the only potential tackler who had a chance to catch him, for a 28-3 lead. The Hoosiers sealed it with Mendoza's two third-quarter TD passes - 17 yards to Elijah Sarratt and 43 yards to to Omar Cooper Jr. Hemby had 12 carries for a season-high 152 yards while Black ran 13 times for 66 yards. Indiana finished with 355 yards rushing, its second-highest total this season and sixth 300-yard game this season. Purdue's Ryan Browne was 25 of 47 for 238 yards and threw an interception on the second offensive play of the game. The Boilermakers had just 282 total yards. - Indiana/AP College Football

There was an added edge to No. 4 Georgia's postgame celebration after the Bulldogs' latest win in the state rivalry known as "Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate." Nate Frazier ran for 108 yards, Gunner Stockton threw a scoring pass to Zachariah Branch for the only touchdown of the game and No. 4 Georgia retained its lock on the rivalry with another close win by holding off No. 23 Georgia Tech 16-9 on Friday. The Bulldogs (11-1) claimed their eighth straight win in the rivalry, the longest streak in school history. That's why Georgia linebacker Quintavius Johnson said the postgame celebration was especially sweet. Georgia Tech (9-3), which moved its home game from its campus stadium to Mercedes-Benz Stadium, closed the regular season by losing three of four games.

Gunner Stockton's 7-yard scoring pass to Branch gave Georgia a 10-3 lead in the second quarter. Peyton Woodring of Georgia and Aidan Birr of Georgia Tech each kicked three field goals. Woodring kicked a 50-yarder early in the fourth quarter for a 16-6 lead. Birr's 41-yarder with 3:30 remaining again trimmed the deficit to seven points. With only 14 seconds remaining, Georgia Tech took its last possession at its 20. Haynes King completed two passes to the Georgia 44 for a final snap with a second remaining. and his final pass was batted down in the end zone. The low-scoring game was a contrast to last year when the Bulldogs outlasted the Yellow Jackets 44-42 in eight overtimes in Athens. Each team needs help to play in its conference championship game. Georgia would advance to the Southeastern Conference championship game if Texas A&M loses to Texas Friday night or Alabama loses to Auburn on Saturday night. Georgia Tech's path to the Atlantic Coast Conference championship game is more difficult. The Yellow Jackets need Miami, Virginia and SMU to lose on Saturday. King completed 19 of 26 passes for 181 yards with an interception. King threw two picks in last week's 42-28 home loss to Pittsburgh that cost the Yellow Jackets an opportunity to clinch a spot in the ACC championship game. - Georgia/AP College Football

11/28/25 - QB Drew Mestemaker, rSo/2029, Oklahoma State + More +

Drew Mestemaker threw for 366 yards and three touchdowns, including a 77-yarder to Cameron Dorner, and No. 21 North Texas wrapped up a spot in the American Conference championship game with a 52-25 victory against Temple on Friday. The Mean Green (11-1, 7-1 American) rolled in their first game since announcing that coach Eric Morris had accepted the job at Oklahoma State. North Texas will play either 22nd-ranked Tulane or Navy for the conference title and a possible College Football Playoff berth. Tulane will host the championship game next Friday with a victory over Charlotte on Saturday night. Otherwise, the Mean Green will be at home against Navy. Tulane is No. 24 in the CFP rankings. North Texas is unranked. The Owls (5-7, 3-5) pulled even at 7-7 on Evan Simon's fourth-down touchdown pass to Ryder Kusch in the first quarter, but the Mean Green scored TDs on their first five drives. The nation's No. 1 offense in total yards had 366 in the first half on the way to a 35-7 lead.

Freshman Caleb Hawkins, who entered the game leading the nation in total touchdowns, is up to 26 after four rushing TDs against Temple. He had 122 of his 186 yards rushing at halftime. North Texas said Tuesday in the announcement about Morris that the coach will leave after the season. Morris said after the game that would include a bowl game if North Texas' first 10-win season doesn't end as the Group of Five representative for the CFP. There is also talk of Mestemaker, a redshirt freshman who never played quarterback on the varsity in high school, leaving UNT as well, possibly joining his coach in Stillwater, Oklahoma. The nation's leading passer was 20 of 24 and had three TDs without an interception for the second week in a row. Mestemaker has 29 TD passes with just four picks. North Texas has outscored its two opponents 108-49 since getting in The Associated Press Top 25 for the first time in 66 years. The Mean Green celebrated the end of the poll's longest drought for an FBS school with a 56-24 victory over Rice. Mestemaker had a 75-yard completion to Wyatt Young to set up Hawkins' fourth score, which put the Mean Green over the 50-point mark for an FBS-leading seventh time this season. Cade Keith caught a 25-yard touchdown pass from Jack Layne in the second overtime to send New Mexico past San Diego State, 23-17 on Friday after both teams turned the ball over in the first OT. The Lobos (9-3, 6-2 Mountain West) remain in the hunt for their first Mountain West championship. With their win, as well as two-time defending champ Boise State's win over Utah State, the Mountain West Conference championship's participants will be decided by computer rankings. Two out of Boise State, New Mexico, San Diego State, and UNLV will be selected to play for the title.

James Laubstein and D.J. McKinney each scored rushing touchdowns, and Dorian Thomas led with five catches for 31 yards. Layne had 127 yards on 14-of-25 passing. In a hectic overtime period, San Diego State took possession first and Austin Brawley intercepted Jayden Denegal on the first play. Three plays later, Laubstein fumbled at the 3-yard line to end the first extra frame. Layne connected with Keith on the first play of the second overtime, and the Lobo defense held strong with sacks on second and third down to force a fourth-and-30 for San Diego State, which failed to convert. The Aztecs (9-3, 5-3) were led by Lucky Sutton's 110 yards and one touchdown on 22 rushes. - New Mexico/AP College Football

Dylan Riley ran for 120 yards and scored the game-winning touchdown with 2:26 remaining in regulation to lift Boise State over Utah State, 25-24 on Friday night in each team's final regular-season game. The Broncos (8-4, 6-2 Mountain West) overcame a 24-13 second-half deficit to win, as Quinton Brown reeled in his only catch for a 66-yard touchdown score late in the third, and Riley won it with his fourth-quarter dash. Max Cutforth was 25-for-48 passing for 325 yards and two touchdowns for Boise State. Malik Sherrod and Chase Penry each had six catches for 56 yards.

For the Aggies (6-6, 4-4), Bryson Barnes was 13-for-31 passing for 184 yards, and added 89 yards and a score on 18 carries. Javen Jacobs had five carries for 92 yards, including a 56-yard touchdown in the first quarter. With the Broncos' win, as well as New Mexico's win over San Diego State, the Mountain West Conference championship's participants will be decided by computer rankings. Two out of Boise State, New Mexico, San Diego State, and UNLV will be selected to play for the title. The Broncos have won the past two Mountain West championships. Owen Allen dashed for 107 yards and two touchdowns, Bruin Fleischmann caught both of his targets for 61 yards and two touchdowns, and Air Force took down Colorado State 42-21 on Friday to recapture the Ram-Falcon Trophy in the final game of the season for both teams. The Falcons (4-8, 3-5 Mountain West) took the lead on the opening drive of the game as Fleischmann hauled in a 55-yard receiving score. Air Force scored on three of its four first-half drives, and only punted once throughout the game. Josh Johnson completed all four of his passing attempts for 104 yards and two touchdowns, and added 22 yards and a score on the ground. The Rams (2-10, 1-7) were led by Jackson Brousseau's 323 yards and two touchdowns on 28-of-37 passing. It's the first 10-loss season since 1988 for Colorado State, which is leaving the Mountain West to play in the Pac-12 next season. 11/28/25 - QB Trinidad Chambliss, rSr/2027, Mississippi + More +

Trinidad Chambliss threw for 359 yards and four touchdowns, and No. 6 Mississippi rolled through Mississippi State 38-19 Saturday in the Battle for the Golden Egg. Chambliss led a Rebel charge that racked up 546 yards of offense. The senior transfer from Division II Ferris State was 23 of 34 for 359 yards and four touchdowns. De'Zhaun Stribling had two of those touchdowns and had four catches for 66 yards. Deuce Alexander had two catches for 94 yards, including an 88-yard score in the fourth quarter that would put the game away for good. The Rebels (11-1, 7-1 Southeastern Conference, No. 7 CFP) also had a big day on the ground as the unit rushed for 187 yards on 39 carries with Kewan Lacy putting in 143 of those yards on 27 carries.

The Bulldogs had more than 400 yards of offense themselves. Jeff Lebby made the surprise change at quarterback and played talented freshman Kamario Taylor all game. The Macon native finished his first start 15 of 31 for 178 yards and had 20 carries for 173 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. Mississippi State (5-7, 1-7 SEC) finished with 440 total yards on 74 plays with 262 of those on the ground. Fluff Bothwell rushed 17 times for 80 yards and Brenen Thompson had six catches for 80 yards. The Bulldogs defense was the real culprit in the game as Coleman Hutzler's unit gave up more than 500 yards for the sixth time in two seasons. - Mississippi/AP College Football

11/28/25 - QB Devon Dampier, Sr/2027, Utah + More +

Devon Dampier threw for 253 yards and three touchdowns, Elijah Davis returned an interception 97 yards for another score, and No. 14 Utah came from behind to beat Kansas 31-21 on Friday and keep its slim Big 12 championship hopes alive. Larry Simmons caught two TD passes, Wayshon Parker ran for 95 yards and Utah (10-2, 7-2, No. 13 CFP) picked off Jalon Daniels three times in the final game of his college career, helping the Utes reach the 10-win mark for the third time in the last five years. More importantly, the Utes can still play for a conference title. They need Arizona State to beat Arizona on Friday night, then Texas Tech to lose to West Virginia and BYU to beat UCF on Saturday - a long-shot scenario, to be sure, but a reason to turn on TVs. Utah won despite allowing 290 yards rushing, one week after beating Kansas State after allowing 472 on the ground. Daniels finished with 187 yards passing and a touchdown, and also rushed for a TD, though his turnovers led to a smattering of boos from Kansas fans, many of whom have endured the QB's highs and lows over the past six seasons.

Daniel Hishaw Jr. had 107 yards rushing and a touchdown for the Jayhawks (5-7, 3-6). Leshon Williams ran for 104. Utah looked as if it might turn Senior Day into a rout in the opening minutes, but the Kansas defense - which had let Leipold's team down so often this season - finally seemed to find its fight. The Jayhawks bottled up the Utes, who had been averaging 279.6 yards on the ground, and early on Dampier was having little success through the air, twice misfiring on fourth-down attempts. Utah led just 10-7 at halftime in a game it desperately needed to win. The Jayhawks briefly pulled ahead after the break, when Whittingham went for it on fourth down rather than kick a field goal on a cold, blustery day. Kansas made a stop, drove 67 yards, and Daniels' scoring sneak gave them a 14-10 advantage But the momentum swung for good on his two red-zone blunders early in the fourth quarter. First, Daniels was picked off while trying to throw the ball out of the end zone, and Utah needed just four plays to go 80 yards for a go-ahead touchdown. Then, after Kansas marched downfield again, Daniels was picked off by Davis near the goal line, and the junior cornerback returned it 97 yards to give the Utes a 24-14 lead with 7:52 remaining. Utah wound up scoring 21 points in the fourth quarter to put the game away. - Utah/AP College Football

Mark Gronowski rushed for two touchdowns and passed for a third, Kamari Moulton ran for 93 yards and two scores, and Iowa spoiled Nebraska running back Emmett Johnson's career game with a 40-16 victory Friday. The Hawkeyes (8-4, 6-3 Big Ten) broke open what was a one-point game late in the second quarter with three touchdowns and a safety and they shut out the Cornhuskers in the second half. They took home the Heroes Trophy after their 10th win in 11 meetings with their border rival. Johnson had 177 of his career-high 217 yards for Nebraska (7-5, 4-5) in the first half, and he matched his career high with 29 carries. It was Johnson's eighth 100-yard game of the season and fifth straight. He broke a career-long 70-yard run on the Huskers' first possession. Johnson, who averaged 9.3 yards per carry in the first half, was limited to 40 yards on 10 carries in the second.

The temperature was 26 degrees at kickoff, and intermittent light snow fell in the first half. Iowa started taking control when Gronowski scored from the 1 in the final minute of the half. The Hawkeyes recorded a safety early in the third quarter when Jacory Barney muffed a punt and the Huskers' Jamir Conn recovered it in the end zone. TD runs of 6 yards by Gronowski and 1 yard by Moulton made it a 34-point game and sent many of the fans home early in the fourth quarter. Gronowski was 9 of 16 for 166 yards and he carried 13 times for 64. Nebraska freshman TJ Lateef, making his third start in place of the injured Dylan Raiola and first at Memorial Stadium, played most of the game with a tight hamstring and was just 9 of 24 for 69 yards. - Iowa/AP College Football

Parker Navarro had 268 yards of total offense, Sieh Bangura added 120 yards rushing, and Ohio stayed alive in the chase for the MAC championship game, defeating Buffalo 31-26 on Friday. Ohio (8-4, 6-2 Mid-American Conference) needs Ball State (3-4) to defeat Miami (5-2) on Saturday in order to have a shot at making the conference championship game. Miami is heavily favored. A Miami loss would leave Ohio tied for second place with the winner of the Saturday matchup between Central Michigan (5-2) and Toledo (5-2). In that scenario, the final tiebreaker would go to the team with the higher Team Rating from SportSource Analytics. Western Michigan (7-1) has clinched first place.

Against Buffalo, Navarro passed for 147 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. He had 121 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Bangura had a rushing touchdown. Led by the two 100-yard rushers, Ohio had 359 yards on the ground. Navarro threw two touchdown passes in the first half and the Bobcats took a 21-7 halftime lead. His 6-yard scoring run in the third quarter made it 28-13. A 58-yard pass from Ta'Quan Roberson to Victor Snow helped set up Roberson's 5-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter. The two-point try to get the Bulls within seven points failed and Ohio led 28-19. Roberson's 29-yad TD pass to Jesaiah Gathings made it 31-26 but the Bulls did not cross midfield on their final possession. Roberson had 270 yards passing and Nik McMillan caught five passes for 122 yards for Buffalo (5-7, 4-4). - Ohio/AP College Football

11/28/25 - RB Gavin Garcia, rSr/2027, The Citadel + More +

Gavin Garcia rushed for a career-high 151 yards and the game-winning score as Kent State rallied in the fourth quarter to defeat Northern Illinois, 35-31 on Friday in the season finale for both teams. The Golden Flashes (5-7, 4-4 Mid-American Conference) trailed 31-20 early in the final quarter, but Cade Wolford broke free for a 31-yard rushing score to cut the deficit to one possession. Kent State forced a punt and took the lead for good on Garcia's 26-yard rush with 4:11 left in regulation.

Dru DeShields was 11-of-22 passing for 207 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. Dashawn Martin caught three passes for 91 yards and a score, and Wayne Harris had three catches for 46 yards. It was the first win for the Flashes at Northern Illinois since Sept. 25, 1966, breaking a 59-year drought. Northern Illinois (3-9, 2-6) was paced by Chavon Wright's 185 yards rushing and two touchdowns on 30 carries, and Jalen Macon added 65 yards and two scores on 17 carries. The Huskies are leaving the MAC to join the Mountain West Conference as a football-only member next season. - Kent State/AP College Football

Stanford is hiring Tavita Pritchard as the school's next head coach, sources told ESPN on Friday. The hire has been finalized, per sources, and the team has been informed. He's a former Stanford quarterback, assistant coach and coordinator. Pritchard is the Washington Commanders quarterbacks coach, a job he took in 2023 after various roles on the Stanford staff from 2010 to 2022. Pritchard has received permission to leave the Commanders to join the Stanford staff, which sources say he's expected to do after Washington plays Denver on Sunday night.

Pritchard emerged from a pool of more than 30 candidates in a process run by general manager Andrew Luck that included new athletic director John Donahoe, former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Stanford President Jonathan Levin. Stanford's pool included strong interest from both the college and NFL world. "Beyond his extensive history at the school, Tavita resoundingly emerged as the best candidate," a Stanford source told ESPN. "His leadership qualities, especially as a connector of people, a strong football mind and a history of recruiting high-end players to Stanford all factored into the decision." It's the first signature full-time hire for Luck, who was hired a year ago. It's also the biggest early move of Donahoe's tenure after being hired in the athletic director chair on July 31. Pritchard and Luck have a long relationship, as Pritchard was Stanford's starting quarterback in 2008 before getting beat out by Luck in 2009. Pritchard will replace interim coach Frank Reich, who came in for the 2025 season. Stanford is 4-7 heading into the season finale at home against No. 9 Notre Dame on Saturday. Florida has shifted focus from Lane Kiffin in the school's coaching search, as the school has sensed through irregular communication that he is interested in other options, sources told ESPN on Friday. Florida, which is searching for former coach Billy Napier's successor, has interviewed roughly a dozen candidates and is optimistic about the process. Louisville's Jeff Brohm, Tulane's Jon Sumrall and Washington's Jedd Fisch are believed to be among the candidates the Gators are still considering. Florida targeted Kiffin early in the search and offered him a deal to put him among the highest-paid coaches in college football, which included significant incentives.

Ole Miss officials told ESPN ahead of Friday's Egg Bowl against Mississippi State in Starkville that Kiffin is expected to provide them with a decision about his future on Friday night or Saturday. He's also considering a lucrative contract offer from SEC rival LSU. LSU also wants an answer from Kiffin, as the coaching carousel has intensified the Tigers' search, as well as a potential one at Ole Miss if Kiffin leaves. Missouri's Eli Drinkwitz and Vanderbilt's Clark Lea, two of the top candidates believed to be under consideration at either Florida or LSU, signed six-year contract extensions with their respective schools in the past 24 hours. If the No. 7 Rebels defeat the Bulldogs on Friday, they'll finish 11-1 and are expected to reach the College Football Playoff for the first time. They would possibly host a first-round game at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in Oxford, Mississippi, on Dec. 19 or 20. If Kiffin decides to leave for LSU, the Rebels have an interim plan in place. In the midst of a historic season for Vanderbilt, the school agreed to a new contract with coach Clark Lea with the aim of keeping Vanderbilt competitive with the top of the SEC. Per ESPN sources, Lea has a new six-year deal to remain the Commodores coach. This comes amid a hectic coaching cycle in which Lea drew interest from multiple high-end suitors with open jobs. Lea and Vanderbilt agreed to the deal this week, and it includes a significant salary increase for Lea. It also includes numerous assets to continue the program's upward trend, including additional resources for both staff and facilities. Lea has led No. 14 Vanderbilt on a remarkable ascent the past two seasons. This year, he has led Vanderbilt to a 9-2 record and a 5-2 mark in the SEC, as Vanderbilt is part of the College Football Playoff conversation with a chance to get to 10-2 at No. 19 Tennessee this weekend.

Last season, Vanderbilt rattled off a series of firsts in program history, including a first win over a No. 1 team when the Commodores toppled Alabama. It marked the first time since 1955 that Vanderbilt beat Alabama and Auburn in the same season. Vanderbilt's turnaround came in sync with a staff overhaul after a 2023 season that saw the team go winless in the SEC. That included the hiring of New Mexico State offensive coordinator Tim Beck in the same role and New Mexico State head coach Jerry Kill in a chief consulting role. That led to the transfer of dynamic quarterback Diego Pavia, who has spearheaded the culture change on the field for the Commodores. Following Lea's extension, sources told ESPN's Eli Lederman that Vanderbilt is expected to intensify its efforts to flip five-star Georgia quarterback commit Jared Curtis before the early signing period opens next week. Curtis, ESPN's No. 1 pocket passer in the 2026 class, is from Nashville and could have the opportunity to compete to start from Day 1 with the Commodores next fall. The 6-foot-4, 225-pound passer has been the top-ranked member of Georgia's incoming recruiting class since May. - ESPN College Football

Oregon State has named Alabama co-offensive coordinator JaMarcus Shephard as the school's next head coach, the school announced Friday. The deal is for five years, per ESPN sources. Shephard was also Alabama's assistant head coach and wide receivers coach. "I'm honored to lead the Oregon State University football program and to join a community that cares so deeply about its student-athletes," Shephard said in a statement. "We will build a culture rooted in toughness, integrity, and relentless effort, and I'm excited to get to work with our players, staff, and supporters to write the next great chapter of Beaver football." Shephard brings significant experience in both the Pacific Northwest and in the Pac-12, as he has worked at both Washington State (2016) and was on Kalen DeBoer's Washington staff (2022-23) that went to the national title game after the 2023 season.

Shephard replaces Trent Bray, who was fired with a 5-14 record in his second season this October. Oregon State is 2-9 this season, and the athletic department is dealing with the seismic financial shift that came with the traditional Pac-12 fracturing apart. Alabama has one of the country's top wide receiving duos in Germie Bernard and Ryan Williams. That group for Shephard comes in the wake of Shephard coaching the best trio of wide receivers in college football in 2023 at Washington: Rome Odunze, Ja'Lynn Polk and Jalen McMillan. At Purdue, Shephard coached star receivers Rondale Moore, a first-team All-American, and David Bell, who earned first-team All Big Ten honors. At Purdue, he worked as the passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach. At Washington State in 2016, Shephard coached future NFL receiver River Cracraft. Throughout the years, Shephard has developed a reputation as an elite connector, with an ability to identify and develop talent. - ESPN College Football
