Florida State Football   Ashton Daniels passed for 202 yards and had a touchdown passing as well as rushing as Florida State defeated New Mexico State 34-17 in a season opener on Saturday. After starting at Stanford for two seasons and playing at Auburn in four games last fall, Daniels completed 17 of 27 passes with a 4-yard touchdown to Samuel Singleton Jr. and an interception in his debut with the Seminoles. He also had an interception. Ousmane Kromah had a weaving 52-yard run in the fourth quarter. The sophomore enjoyed his first 100-yard game, picking up 114 yards on 13 carries.

Florida State, which finished with 217 rushing yards on 39 carries, won a season opener for the fourth time in five years. Singleton Jr. did a little bit of everything. He had nine carries for 42 yards and caught four passes for 54 yards. Singleton's 46-yard kickoff return also set up Florida State near midfield, and he finished off the drive with a 2-yard TD run. New Mexico State quarterback Trey Hedden found success with clean pockets and was a big part of converting 10 of 16 third-down attempts. Hedden, a transfer from FCS Furman, completed 26 of 42 passes for 272 yards and touchdowns to TK King and Brodie Malone-Bradford for the Aggies. He also threw an interception. - AP College Football

Stanford Football   Micah Ford scored his third touchdown on a 2-yard run with 1:41 to play and Stanford rallied after nearly blowing a 16-point lead in the fourth quarter to beat Hawaii 37-27 on Saturday in the first game under new coach Tavita Pritchard. Davis Warren threw for 310 yards and one touchdown in his debut for the Cardinal and engineered the game-winning drive after Hawaii had scored three touchdowns in the fourth quarter to turn a 23-7 deficit into a 27-23 lead. But instead of the biggest fourth-quarter comeback in school history, the Rainbow Warriors fell just short of beating the Cardinal for the second straight year in the season opener with the final attempt at a comeback ending when Micah Alejado fumbled and Tevarua Tafiti returned it 31 yards for the game-sealing touchdown.

Warren made his first start since finishing the 2024 season at Michigan with wins over Ohio State and Alabama. He sat out last season with a knee injury and then transferred to Stanford where he won the starting job this summer. He went 22 for 34, committed no turnovers and set a career high in yards passing. He threw a 6-yard touchdown pass to Atticus Joseph and set up Ford's first two TD runs with long passes, connecting on a 57-yarder to JonAnthony Hall and a 48-yard deep strike to freshman Zion Robinson to the Hawaii 4 on Stanford's first drive of the second half. He then went 5 for 5 for 58 yards on the game-winning drive. Alejado went 30 for 50 for 269 yards and two TDs that both came during the fourth quarter comeback. His 29-yarder to DeVon Rice had given Hawaii a 27-23 lead with 4:06 to play. - AP College Football

The 2-yard touchdown was the first catch for Isaac in his first career game. It gave NAU a 34-27 lead.   Virginia Football   Transfer quarterback Beau Pribula dazzled in his Virginia debut as the Cavaliers drilled visiting North Carolina State 34-8 in the season and ACC opener for both squads on Saturday at Scott Stadium. Pribula, who started his career at Penn State and played last season at Missouri, threw for 155 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another 110 yards, becoming the first Virginia quarterback to run for 100 yards in a game since Brennan Armstrong in 2022. Behind a balanced offense and stifling defense, the Cavaliers jumped out to a 17-0 lead headed into halftime.

Virginia, playing without star linebacker Kam Robinson (knee), had no trouble containing CJ Bailey and the Wolfpack. It opened the game with a pair of three-and-outs and then intercepted a tipped pass on NC State's third possession. The Wolfpack never threatened. Bailey finished 12 for 23 for 84 yards and an interception. He also lost a red-zone fumble. - AP College Football

USC Football   Jayden Maiava passed for 286 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another score, and No. 14 Southern California opened a season of high expectations with a 42-26 victory over San Jose State on Saturday. Trent Mosley caught seven passes for 118 yards and a touchdown in the Orange County product's dynamic debut for the Trojans, who showcased several promising newcomers in coach Lincoln Riley's offense. Kayden Dixon-Wyatt also caught a TD pass in his debut, while Riley Wormley and Shahn Alston rushed for their first TDs. New USC defensive coordinator Gary Patterson's unit mostly looked sharp while the Trojans built a 35-3 lead heading into the fourth quarter, but new San Jose State quarterback Luke Weaver led three late touchdown drives against USC's backup defenders to tighten up the final score considerably.

USC has College Football Playoff aspirations with a restocked roster around Maiava, who went 25 for 29 as the Trojans won their opener at the Coliseum despite being without several expected key contributors due to apparent injuries. Star defensive tackle Jahkeem Stewart and presumptive starting receivers Tanook Hines and NC State transfer Terrell Anderson were the biggest absences. Hawaii transfer Weaver passed for 234 yards and threw fourth-quarter TD passes to Jerry McClure and Jordan Anderson before rushing for a late score. The Spartans' thoroughly overhauled roster will get a boost from its strong finish to head coach Ken Niumatalolo's third-season opener. Maiava began his third season as the Trojans' starting quarterback by rushing for a score on the opening drive. Dixon-Wyatt caught a short scoring slant in the second quarter, and 2025 breakout star King Miller rushed for a TD and a 28-0 lead right before halftime. - AP College Football
