  Texas Southern Football   AUG 31/WEEK 0 SWAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Athean Renfro Jr., Texas Southern,...The Senior Running Back from Beaumont, Texas opened the season leading the Tigers in the ground game with 163 rushing yards in 18 attempts with his longest being 45 yards while adding a touchdown. Renfro led the charge with his performance averaging 9.1 yards per carry and the lone 100-yard rusher as Texas Southern totaled 294 rushing yards as a team. Athean Renfro Jr. helped the Tigers overcome North Carolina Central with a 42-30 final score, giving the Tigers a notable win over the Eagles. Following a season where he rushed for 835 yards, Renfro Jr. opens the year, being ranked #5 in the FCS in the rushing yards category while adding his first weekly honor. - SWAC Football

  Arkansas-Pine Bluff Football   AUG 31/WEEK 0 SWAC NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK: Demetric Whitlock, Arkansas-Pine Bluff,...The Redshirt Junior Wide Receiver from Gilbert, Louisiana made his debut with the Golden Lions where he roared his presence with five receptions, 160 receiving yards and three touchdowns in the win against Morehouse College on Saturday, August 29th. Whitlock highlighted with a 94-yard reception that turned him into finishing the foot race in the endzone. Whitlock added his last two touchdowns with a 13-yard reception and a 39-yard reception proving to give the secondary headaches while stamping his name with Arkansas-Pine Bluff in the season opener. As Demetric Whitlock begins his career with the Golden Lions, Whitlock adds his first weekly honor following his debut and will be a name to keep an eye on as the season progresses. - SWAC Football

  Houston Christian Football   AUG 31/WEEK 0 SOUTHLAND DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Jayven Anderson, HCU - LB - Sr. - Houston, Texas (North Shore HS),...Anderson was a force to be reckoned with in HCU's opening win over No. 19/20 Southeastern, finishing with six tackles for loss for 19 yards, which was the most in the nation in the opening week of the season. He tallied a total of nine tackles in the opening game. Anderson also registered one sack, one forced fumble and also blocked a field goal in the 2nd quarter with the Huskies trialing, 7-3, that led to a touchdown.   Western Carolina Football   AUG 31/WEEK 0 SOCON OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Lex Thomas, Jr., QB, Western Carolina, Raleigh, N.C.,...Thomas completed 27-of-35 passes, throwing for 320 yards and three touchdowns in Western Carolina's 45-21 season-opening win over Eastern Kentucky on Saturday. The junior also ran for a team-best 69 yards, including a game-sealing 15-yard scamper in the fourth quarter. The native of Raleigh, North Carolina, tossed each of his touchdown passes in the third quarter, with two scores going to running back Josh Perry and one to Bode Burns. Thomas' performance helped the Catamounts to their first season-opening victory since 2022.   Dayton Football   AUG 31/WEEK 0 PIONEER FOOTBALL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Javawn Brooks, Dayton (Junior, Defensive Back, Indianapolis, Indiana),...Brooks picked off passes on back-to-back drives and amassed 63 yards in returns in Dayton's 43-20 victory against Fairmont State. After Dayton took a 14-0 lead in the second quarter, Brooks intercepted a pass near midfield and returned it 35 yards, setting up a Flyers scoring drive inside the 10-yard line. After that Dayton scoring drive, he again intercepted a pass at the 40-yard line and returned it 28 yards to inside the 15-yard line. One play later, Dayton scored and pushed its lead to 28-0.   Presbyterian Football   AUG 31/WEEK 0 PIONEER FOOTBALL OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Landon Sharpe, Presbyterian (Sophomore, Quarterback, Lexington, South Carolina),...After a slow start, Sharpe was responsible for four second-half touchdowns, leading Presbyterian to a 47-37 victory against UVA Wise. He finished the day with 455 total offensive yards, running for a team-best 88 yards and passing for 367 yards. Sharpe led the Blue Hose to a 17-16 halftime lead but did not throw or run for a touchdown. He needed just one play to extend that halftime lead with a 17-yard touchdown pass to Jalen Patrick. Sharpe then found Jackson Burleson for a 22-yard TD score three minutes later. He then ran for a four-yard score with five minutes left in the third, giving the Blue Hose a 38-30 lead. Sharpe closed a 17-0 scoring burst midway through the fourth quarter with a 16-yard touchdown pass to Caleb Johnson, securing the win. He completed 13-of-20 passes for 149 yards and three touchdowns and added 63 rushing yards with a TD in the second half alone. - Pioneer League Football
