Indiana Football   In a battle between No. 17 Indiana and No. 8 Illinois, it was the Hoosiers who showed the nation who the better team was. Indiana dominated the game from start to finish, scoring the most points any Big Ten team has ever scored against a top 10 opponent, routing the Illini 63-10. The victory moved the Hoosiers up five spots to No. 12 in this week's US LBM Coaches Poll, while Illinois dropped to No. 23. The top five remain the same with Ohio State, Penn State, Georgia, LSU and Oregon. Miami (Fla.) and Texas stay at the sixth and seventh spots, with Florida State, Texas A&M and Oklahoma rising a couple of spots, thanks to Illinois' loss, to round out the top 10. - American Football Coaches Association

Miami Football   Miami jumped LSU and Penn State into the No. 2 spot behind Ohio State in The Associated Press college football poll on Sunday while Oklahoma climbed into top 10 for the first time in two years and Indiana and Texas Tech made big moves after lopsided wins over Top 25 opponents. The Hurricanes have beaten two ranked opponents, and they turned in another complete performance in a 19-point home win over Florida to earn their highest ranking since 2017.

Penn State, which had been No. 2 since the preseason, was idle and slipped to No. 3. LSU fell one spot to No. 4 after an easy win over Southeastern Louisiana of the second-tier Football Championship Subdivision. No. 5 Georgia and No. 6 Oregon held their positions and were followed by No. 7 Oklahoma, which beat previously ranked Auburn at home and returned to the top 10 for the first time since it started 7-0 in 2023. Florida State, Texas A&M and Texas round out the top 10. - AP College Football

USC Football   Jayden Maiava and the Southern California offense appeared to be rolling to another comfortable victory when a scary injury for Michigan State and a series of big mistakes by the Trojans tightened up their late-night meeting once again. The No. 25 Trojans shook it all off and comfortably finished off the biggest challenge yet to their unbeaten start. Maiava threw three touchdown passes and rushed for two more scores, and Makai Lemon made a 40-yard TD catch and ran for another score in USC's 45-31 victory on Saturday night. Maiava passed for 236 yards, Waymond Jordan rushed for 157 yards and Lemon had 127 yards receiving in a fourth straight comfortable victory for USC (4-0, 2-0 Big Ten), which is off to its best start since coach Lincoln Riley's first season in 2022.

Tanook Hines and Walker Lyons also caught TD passes as the Trojans surged away near halftime and capably handled a late rally by the Spartans (3-1, 0-1) to win the new conference rivals' first meeting since 1990. "That was a game that had some unique twists and turns," Riley said. "I thought we were controlling the game, (and then) obviously we had a couple of errors there in the third quarter with the penalties...and the turnover that allowed them to come back and capture some momentum. But I thought our team responded and separated back in a really good way. A lot to learn from. A lot that's got to continue to get better, but if you're learning lessons as you win, it's hard not to be excited." Long Beach native Aidan Chiles threw three touchdown passes and rushed for another score for the Spartans, who fell short of only their second 4-0 start in the past decade. Chiles accounted for 243 of the Spartans' 333 total yards. While USC's offense marched up and down the field and didn't punt until the final minute, the defense made repeated mistakes in coverage and in discipline, accounting for most of the Trojans' 10 penalties. - USC/AP College Football

Colorado Football   Quarterback Kaidon Salter threw three touchdown passes and ran for a game-sealing score in his return to the starting role as Colorado beat Wyoming 37-20 on Saturday night. Salter, who lost his job last week to Ryan Staub, finished 18 of 28 for 304 yards. Salter also rushed for 86 yards to help the Buffaloes (2-2) rebound from a loss last Friday at Houston. Colorado led 28-3 early in the third quarter before the Cowboys (2-2) began to rally. The momentum was interrupted when Buffaloes defensive end Arden Walker sacked Kaden Anderson in the end zone for a safety to make it 30-13. After a Cowboys score, Salter put the game away with a 35-yard TD run with 1:46 left. "I'm happy with the results, but I'm not happy with the finish," Colorado coach Deion Sanders said. "I told our young men, too much ha-ha and hee-heeing on the sideline when we got the lead. " I wish we could be a little more - have a little more killer instinct in us to really put teams away, like we're capable of doing." Salter, a transfer from Liberty, started the first two games before being replaced by Staub.

Back in charge, Salter made big play after big play. He had a 29-yard TD throw to Omarion Miller and a 68-yard strike to Sincere Brown. He also had a 47-yard touchdown throw to Joseph Williams. "It's been rough not playing last week," Salter said. "I just want to go out there and be the best version of me for the team." Was this wake-up call for Salter? "I'm not going to say what a man needs," Sanders said. "All I'm going to say is everybody in that locker room, including me, we're accountable to one another. Sometimes you've got to hold people accountable to what's transpiring. "I want to win but I want people to grow as human beings." Anderson threw for 176 yards and two scores. Freshman tailback Samuel Harris rushed for 126 yards, including a 50-yard scamper. - Colorado/AP College Football

Texas Tech Football   Backup quarterback Will Hammond stepped into a stagnant Texas Tech offense in the third quarter and put together four scoring drives to lead the 17th-ranked Red Raiders to a 34-10 win over No. 16 Utah on Saturday. Hammond threw for 169 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 61 yards. He entered the game in relief of Behren Morton, whose helmet slammed on the turf after he slid head first into contact with Utah linebacker Johnathan Hall during the Red Raiders' (4-0, 1-0 Big 12) opening drive of the third quarter. Morton was ruled out after the hit with his teaming leading 10-3. He threw for 142 yards and two interceptions before exiting. Utah QB Devon Dampier threw for 162 yards and two interceptions. The Utes (3-1, 0-1 Big 12) were held to 263 total yards and committed four turnovers.

Texas Tech opened the scoring early in the first quarter on a 1-yard touchdown run from Cameron Dickey, who finished the day with 67 yards and two scores. Stone Harrington's career-long 58-yard field goal extended the Red Raiders' lead to 10-0 late in the second quarter. The Utes had a 69-yard TD pass from Dampier to Jackson Bennee called back on an ineligible receiver penalty. Their first-half points came from Dillon Curtis' 32-yard field goal on the final play of the half. Dickey put the Red Raiders up 27-10 with 3:41 remaining in the fourth quarter when he took a hand off, squeezed his way through a scrum of players and popped out the other side for a 24-yard touchdown run. Utah threw an interception on its ensuing drive, which led to another Tech touchdown. The home fans had already started leaving the stadium by the time Hammond threw a spot-on ball to Reggie Virgil for the 21-yard score. - AP College Football

Syracuse Football   Steve Angeli threw for 244 yards and two touchdowns before leaving with a lower leg injury, Justus Ross-Simmons hauled in two TD passes and Syracuse upset heavily-favored Clemson 34-21 on Saturday sending the Tigers to their worst start ever under coach Dabo Swinney. Angeli threw first half TD passes to Ross-Simmons and Darrell Gill Jr. while Will Nixon scored on a 9-yard run as the Orange (3-1, 1-0 ACC) built a 27-14 lead before Angeli left with a non-contact lower leg injury late in the third quarter after rolling out of the pocket. Rickie Collins added a touchdown pass in relief for Syracuse, which entered the game as a 17 1/2-point road underdog but never trailed. First-team preseason All-American Cade Klubnik struggled with accuracy and finding open receivers once again despite finishing 37 of 60 passes for 363 yards and three touchdowns for Clemson, which started 1-3 for the first time since 2004 when Swinney was the Tigers wide receivers coach under Tommy Bowden. Adam Randall added 130 yards rushing and a touchdown and Bryant Wesco Jr. had two TD catches for the Tigers (1-3, 0-2), who began the season ranked No. 4 in the nation but have seen their national championship hopes evaporate in the first four weeks of the season. Syracuse took full advantage of two first-half gambles by coach Fran Brown and three costly Clemson penalties to build a 24-14 halftime lead.

After Angeli completed a 12-yard touchdown pass to a leaping Ross-Simmons on the game's first possession, Brown caught Clemson off guard with an onside kick and Syracuse recovered. Brown then gambled again going for it on fourth and 3 near midfield and succeeded again, leading to a field goal giving the Orange a 10-0 lead before Clemson's offense stepped on the field. Klubnik threw TDs to Wesco and Randall in the first half, but Syracuse matched the Tigers offensive output with Nixon scoring on a 9-yard run off an inside handoff and Angeli finding Gill in the right corner of the end zone on a perfectly-placed pass for a 22-yard score. Clemson had a chance to cut the lead to seven before halftime but Wesco dropped a pass near the sideline with 5 seconds left that would have allowed the Tigers to get into field goal range. Instead Klubnik's Hail Mary heave to end the half was incomplete. Johntay Cook II had five catches for 113 yards and Yasin Willis added 94 yards on the ground for Syracuse. Halftime lasted more than two hours due to a lightning delay. - Syracuse/AP College Football

Missouri Football   Ahmad Hardy bounced his way for 138 yards rushing and a touchdown, Beau Pribula led No. 23 Missouri downfield for a go-ahead score in the fourth quarter and the Tigers beat South Carolina 29-20 on Saturday night. Pribula threw for 171 yards with a touchdown pass, and Jamal Roberts had a nifty touchdown jaunt of his own with 9:32 left to give the Tigers (4-0, 1-0 SEC) the lead, ultimately helping them to their 14th consecutive home win. LaNorris Sellers had 302 yards passing and two touchdowns for the Gamecocks (2-2, 0-2), but their star quarterback missed a couple of open receivers in the fourth quarter when the game was on the line. South Carolina twice went three-and-out down the stretch, giving the powerful Missouri ground game the chance to close out the win. The Tigers finished with 285 yards rushing. South Carolina had minus-9 on the ground.

Missouri rolled into the game amid a perfect start that included a win over rival Kansas, while the Gamecocks limped into town following a lopsided loss to Vanderbilt in which Sellers missed the second half after a hard blow to the head. South Carolina needed his magic. The Tigers struck first with a 99-yard drive - their third full-field march of the season - before Sellers answered with a 49-yard touchdown throw to Vandrevius Jacobs to give the Gamecocks a 7-6 lead. Sellers hit Brian Rowe Jr. with his second touchdown throw later in the half, and South Carolina led 14-12 at the break. Hardy carried the Tigers in the second half, bouncing off defenders like a pinball. The highlight may have been his TD run, when it looked as if he was stood up at the line of scrimmage, spun off the pile and scored to give Missouri an 18-16 lead. But it always felt as if the game was destined to be decided in the fourth quarter, just like last November, when Sellers capped a 353-yard, five-touchdown performance by rallying the Gamecocks for a 34-30 win in the Palmetto State. - Missouri/AP College Football

Miami Football   Mark Fletcher Jr. rushed for 116 yards and a touchdown, Marty Brown rushed for a pair of scores and No. 4 Miami struggled at times before beating Florida 26-7 on Saturday night. Brown had a 2-yard rush to cap the first drive of the game for Miami (4-0), then had a 1-yard plunge with 4:08 left to seal what became the Hurricanes' ninth win over the Gators in the teams' last 11 meetings. Fletcher scored from 1 yard out with 1:57 left. Jadan Baugh had a 7-yard touchdown run for Florida (1-3), off to its worst start since 1986. The loss sent embattled coach Billy Napier's record with the Gators to 20-22, and came on a night where Florida had its fewest total yards in a game in more than 25 years. The Gators were outgained 344-141 and quarterback D.J. Lagway completed 12 of 23 passes for only 61 yards. It was Florida's lowest yardage since managing only 119 against Alabama on Dec. 4, 1999. Miami quarterback Carson Beck completed 17 of 30 passes for 160 yards and an interception.

Beck improved to 3-0 all-time against Florida; in the last 25 years, only fellow former Georgia quarterbacks Jake Fromm and Aaron Murray also had three wins over the Gators as starters. The Hurricanes were fuming after a play early in the third quarter where it appeared Brown - on fourth-and-1 from the Florida 48 - bounced off a pile, kept his legs moving and broke free for what would have been a touchdown and a 19-0 Miami lead with an extra point pending. Southeastern Conference referee David Smith said Brown's forward progress was stopped, taking the score off the board, and Miami punted four plays later. The Gators scored on the ensuing drive, and a game where the Hurricanes thought they had gone up by three touchdowns was suddenly a 13-7 contest. Beck got picked off on the next Miami drive, but the Hurricanes snuffed out that Florida possession by getting a fourth-down stop on the first play of the fourth quarter and holding on to the six-point lead. Florida never got any closer. - Miami/AP College Football

Indiana Football   Fernando Mendoza threw five touchdown passes and D'Angelo Ponds scooped up the punt he blocked and returned it 11 yards for a score Saturday night, leading No. 19 Indiana past No. 9 Illinois 63-10 for its first win over a top 10 foe in five years - and easily the most lopsided. Indiana's previous best was a 31-10 victory at then No. 9 Ohio State in 1987. It marked the first time since 1950 the Hoosiers and Fighting Illini squared off with each ranked. Ponds' blocked punt return opened the scoring, and Mendoza went 21 of 23 with 267 yards to become the first Hoosiers player with multiple games of five or more TD passes in three quarters. He also completed his final 17 passes as Indiana (4-0, 1-0 Big Ten) extended its school record home winning streak to 12, all coming under second-year coach Curt Cignetti. "We'll get people's attention with this one," Cignetti said. "The team really laid it on the line tonight. There's nothing better than being the Grinch in the second half with a big lead. I love that feeling." Elijah Sarratt caught nine passes for 92 yards and two scores while Omar Cooper Jr. had six receptions for 78 yards and one TD.

Khobe Martin rushed for 107 yards and two TDs and Kaelon Black added 89 yards rushing and one TD. The Fighting Illini offense struggled as quarterback Luke Altmeyer was under pressure all night. Illinois (3-1, 0-1) allowed five sacks and rushed for only 3 yards in the first half, falling into an insurmountable 35-10 deficit. Indiana sealed the win with TD drives on each of its first two second-half possessions. It was the worst loss of coach Bret Bielema's tenure at Illinois. "We didn't respoind to any adversity. It started with the blocked punt and never really got anything on offense or defense," Bielema said. "Embarrassing and at a loss for words." Altmeyer was 14 of 22 with 146 yards and one interception while being sacked seven times. Receiver Hank Beatty was limited to two catches for 13 yards and Illinois' only meaningful scores came on a 59-yard TD pass from Altmeyer to Collin Dixon in the first quarter and a 46-yard field goal to close the half. - Indiana/AP College Football

  09/21/25 - QB DJ Lagway, Jr/2028, Baylor + More +

Baylor Football   The Florida Gators shuffled into the visitor's locker room at Hard Rock Stadium, mostly quiet, some with their heads bowed. Running back Jadan Baugh, who scored Florida's only touchdown, paused before entering the locker room and shook his head, still absorbing the sting of Saturday's 26-7 loss to No. 4 Miami - a game in which the Gators struggled offensively and failed to capitalize on an uneven offensive performance by the Hurricanes. The scene seemed to encapsulate what has been a dreadful season for Florida, which is off to its worst start (1-3) in 39 years despite a talented roster that many picked to be a formidable competitor this season in the Southeastern Conference. The Gators have hardly looked the part in the first four games of the season, which have featured a rout of Long Island University, a collapse against South Florida in a game they were heavily favored, and road losses to No. 3 LSU and Miami. T "We've got work to do," said embattled Florida coach Billy Napier, whose record with the Gators fell to 20-22.

Florida's only scoring drive came on the first possession of the third quarter, when quarterback D.J. Lagway extended the drive with a fourth-down run and Baugh capped it off with a 2-yard rushing touchdown. Lagway, Florida's sophomore quarterback who was 6-1 as a starter in 2024, was 12 of 23 for only 61 yards and no touchdown passes. "It's very frustrating," Lagway said. "We've got to clean a lot of things up. That's nowhere near the brand of football wen want to play." Lagway added that improvement starts with him. He admitted Saturday wasn't his best performance, noting that he just took what the defense gave him and only managed the game. "I'm going to demand greatness from everybody," Lagway said. "We're done with the playing around stuff. It's time to get serious. And it starts with me. I've got to set the tempo. I set the tone - in practice, in meetings, everywhere. So I know for a fact that it's going to change because it starts with me." - AP College Football

Fresno State Football   K'Vion Thunderbird returned an interception 59 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter and Fresno State beat Hawaii 23-21 on Saturday night in the Mountain West Conference opener for both teams. Thunderbird, a sophomore linebacker, lined up over the right guard and started to rush before he took a short drop, snagging a pick-6 that made it 23-15 with 5:20 left in the game. Fresno State (4-1) has won four straight since a season-opening loss at Kansas. Micah Alejado threw a 10-yard TD pass to Blaze Kamoku that made it 23-21 with 10 seconds left but Alejado's pass intended for Brandon White fell incomplete on the 2-point conversion attempt. The Bulldogs recovered the onside kick attempt.

E.J. Warner was 22-of-29 passing for 230 yards, including a 13-yard touchdown to Richie Anderson III that cut the Fresno State (4-1) deficit to 9-7 with 38 seconds left in the first half. De'jon Benton strip-sacked Warner in the end zone and the resulting safety gave Hawaii (3-2) a 2-0 lead midway through the first quarter and Jamih Otis had a scooped up a fumbled lateral and raced 37 yards yards for a touchdown to make it 9-0. Alejado was 28-of-42 passing for 219 yards and threw two of his career-high three interceptions in the fourth quarter. - Fresno State/AP College Football

Maryland Football   Cardell Williams passed for 252 yards and accounted for three touchdowns, Damian Henderson II ran for an 85-yard touchdown, and Sacramento State beat Central Arkansas 45-16 on Saturday night. Williams was 15-of-20 passing for 252 yards, including a 9-yard touchdown to Sam Adams II, and added 61 yards rushing and two TDs on eight carries. Henderson finished with 15 carries for 137 yards and his touchdown run was the longest by a Hornets player since 2004 (Ryan Mole, 87 yards). Sacramento State had 11 plays of 20 yards or more, averaged 9.9 yards per play and finished with 602 total yards. Central Arkansas (2-2) gave up eight sacks, including 2 1/2 by Dylan Hampsten and two by Jayland McGlothen.

Sacramento State (2-2), ranked No. 22 in the FCS coaches poll, has won back-to-back games after losing 20-3 at FCS No. 2 South Dakota State in the opener and a 20-17 loss at FBS-foe Nevada on a pick-6 with 2:17 left in the fourth quarter. Jaden Rashada came on in the fourth quarter completed both of his pass attempts, hitting Jordan Anderson on third-and-14 for a 38-yard gain and, two plays later, throwing a 50-yard touchdown pass to Ernest Campbell that capped the scoring with 8:01 to play.   San Diego State Football   Chris Johnson returned an interception 97 yards for a touchdown and Dwayne McDougle had a 35-yard fumble return for a score as San Diego State stunned previously undefeated California 34--0 on Saturday night. Jayden Denegal hit Jordan Napier on a 6-yard touchdown pass two plays after they hooked up on an 80-yard completion for the Aztecs (2-1), who rebounded two weeks after being routed 36-13 at future Pac-12 opponent Washington State. Cal dropped to 3-1. Johnson stepped in front of Jaiven Plummer to intercept true freshman Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele and then raced down the right sideline for a 27-0 lead late in the third quarter. Two drives earlier, SDSU's Dalesean Staley knocked the ball loose from Kendrick Raphael and McDougle scooped it up and ran in untouched.

Staley intercepted Sagapolutele late in the third quarter. "That's a good team that played well on a good night," coach Sean Lewis said of his Aztecs. "I'm really proud of them. Lot of great emotional toughness they've showed in the past 14 days to respond to coaching, to respond to situations and to respond to an incredible opportunity that they had tonight that they really capitalized on against a really good football team. We're a good team." On first-and-20 from the SDSU 10-yard line early in the second quarter, Denegal hit Napier at the 50 and the wideout ran to the Cal 10 before being dragged down. Two plays later, Denegal made a nifty short toss to Napier, who then followed 338-pound pulling lineman Joe Borjon into the end zone. Gabe Plascencia kicked field goals of 34 and 41 yards. Napier had nine catches for 154 yards and Lucky Sutton scored on a 3-yard run. - San Diego State/AP College Football
