Kiael Kelly ran for three touchdowns and passed for another with Qua Ashley rushing for 143 yards on 20 carries for the Cardinals (3-4, 2-1 Mid-American Conference). The Cardinals trailed 15-14 at halftime before Ashley's 69-yard run gave Ball State the lead for good with 10 minutes left in the third quarter. The Cardinals kept the Zips (2-6, 1-3) at bay with Kelly's 29-yard touchdown throw to Koby Gross and Kelly's 1-yard run in the fourth quarter to cap a 75-yard drive.   Southern Miss Football   Micah Davis caught a 98-yard touchdown pass from Braylon Braxton and Jabari Ishmael recovered a fumble inside the 1-yard line to help Southern Miss beat Louisiana-Lafayette 22-10 on Saturday. On a third-and-14 from the Golden Eagles 2, Davis caught a long ball down the right sideline for the longest pass play in Southern Miss history. It put the Golden Eagles (5-2, 3-0 Sun Belt) up 20-10 at the 3:40 mark in the third quarter.

The Ragin' Cajuns (2-5, 1-2) nearly responded with a touchdown on the ensuing possession, but Lunch Winfield reached for the goal line on a quarterback keeper and lost the ball, which Ishmael recovered. On a fourth-and-8, Winfield was stripped sacked in the end zone by Chris Jones for a safety with 3:44 remaining. Braxton was 12-of-17 passing for 230 yards and also threw an interception. Davis finished with 134 yards on three receptions. Ahmere Foster and Corey Myrick each had an interception for the Golden Eagles, who entered with 11 interceptions, second in the FBS. Winfield finished 12 of 21 for 112 yards passing and added 98 yards and a touchdown on the ground for the Ragin' Cajuns. - Southern Miss/AP College Football

  10/18/25 - QB Sam Leavitt, rJr/2028, LSU + More +

LSU Football   Raleek Brown bulled in for a 1-yard touchdown with 34 seconds left and Arizona State rallied after blowing a 12-point, fourth-quarter lead to hand No. 7 Texas Tech its first loss of the season, 26-22 on Saturday. The Red Raiders (6-1, 3-1 Big 12) labored most of the afternoon without starting quarterback Behren Morton (knee), finishing with 276 total yards after averaging an FBS-best 558.8 through the first six games. Will Hammond showed his mettle after failing to move Texas Tech's offense through three quarters, orchestrating two late scoring drives. The freshman scored on a 1-yard run and, after Texas Tech's defense held, found Reggie Virgil on a 12-yard touchdown pass. Hammond put the Red Raiders up 22-19 by running it in for the 2-point conversion - after a holding call on Arizona State on the first attempt - but left too much time on the clock. The reigning Big 12 champion Sun Devils (5-2, 3-1) started the final drive from their 25 with two minutes left and quickly moved down the field.

Sam Leavitt completed 5 of 7 passes for 61 yards on the drive and benefited from a pass interference call on Texas Tech's Brice Pollack to set up Brown's TD run. The Red Raiders reached Arizona State's 28 on its final drive, but Hammond's desperation heave into the end zone was swatted down. Texas Tech followed No. 2 Miami, No. 5 Mississippi and No. 10 LSU to become the fourth top-10 team to lose this weekend. Texas Tech was without defensive tackle Skyler Gill-Howard, who had season-ending ankle surgery this week, and the Sun Devils took advantage by racking up 394 total yards against one of the nation's best defenses. Arizona State had a hard time finishing drives, settling for four field goals by Jesus Gomez, but came through at just the right time. Leavitt threw for 319 yards and hit Jordyn Tyson on a 2-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter after missing last week's game against Utah with a foot injury. - Arizona State/AP College Football

Central Florida Football   Alonza Barnett III accounted for six touchdowns and 448 yards of total offense, powering James Madison to a 63-27 victory over Old Dominion on Saturday in the homecoming game for the Dukes. James Madison outscored Old Dominion 35-0 in the second half, turning a close game into a rout in which the Dukes (6-1, 4-0 Sun Belt Conference) piled up 624 yards of offense. Barnett was 17-for-25 passing for 295 yards and had 153 yards rushing on 17 carries. He threw for two touchdowns and ran for a career-high four. His six total touchdowns were one less than his career high of seven in a win over North Carolina last season.

Old Dominion (4-3, 1-2) kicked off to start the game and scored when JMU's Braeden Wisloski fumbled inside his 5-yard line and ODU's Lucas Struck cashed it in for a touchdown. Barnett tied it with a 58-yard run just five plays into the ensuing drive for James Madison. Later in the first quarter, Old Dominion's Colton Joseph threw a mid-range pass to Tre Brown, who caught the ball at his own 20 and raced the next 80 yards mostly untouched to finish off a school-record 98-yard passing touchdown. Joseph finished the first half with three touchdown passes and the Monarchs trailed 28-27. He had 209 yards passing with three TDs and two interceptions for the game. The second half was all James Madison as Barnett dominated with three touchdown runs before backup QB Matthew Sluka's 18-yard TD pass to Za'Ron Collins wrapped up the scoring. - James Madison/AP College Football

Marshall scored first in overtime on Barbie's 4-yard touchdown and the Bobcats responded with Lincoln Pare's 1-yard rushing TD. Tyler Robles kicked a 29-yard field goal on Texas State's second OT possession before Barbie's winning 1-yard run that was upheld after a review. Robles kicked a 50-yard field goal with three seconds left for Texas State (3-4, 0-3 Sun Belt) to force overtime. Carlos Del Rio-Wilson was 22-of-32 passing for 277 yards with a touchdown and an interception and rushed for 88 more yards for the Thundering Herd (4-3, 2-1). Brad Jackson was 26 of 38 for 444 yards passing, second-highest in program history. He threw for two scores and was intercepted once and ran for a score.   Tennessee Tech Football   Kekoa Visperas passed for three touchdowns and ran for another to lead undefeated Tennessee Tech to a 52-28 win over Lindenwood on Saturday in a game that endured two lengthy weather delays. Tennessee Tech (7-0, 4-0), ranked No. 8 in the FCS coaches' poll, is the last unbeaten team in the OVC-Big South Association. The victory clinched a second consecutive winning season for the first time since 2000-2001. The Golden Eagles have the longest active win streak in the FCS at 12 games.

The Eagles led 17-14 after Q'Daryius Jennings' 14-yard touchdown run late in the second half then pulled away with 21 points in the third quarter and 14 more in the final period. Visperas was 16 of 22 for 173 yards passing. Quintell Quinn rushed for 133 yards including a 58-yard score. Nate Glantz was 19-of-38 passing for 294 yards and four touchdowns for the Lions (3-4, 2-1). Jalen Smith had 102 yards receiving but the Lions rushed for only 17 yards. - AP College Football

Oklahoma State Football   Drew Mestemaker threw for 277 yards and four touchdowns, with three scores and 102 yards going to Wyatt Young, and North Texas beat UTSA 55-17 on Saturday. North Texas (6-1, 2-1 American) is off to its first 6-1 start since 2018. It was North Texas' third game this season scoring 50-plus points. After UTSA opened the game with a three-play, 75-yard scoring drive, North Texas answered with 17 straight fourth-quarter points. Kiefer Sibley capped the first-half scoring with nine seconds left to give North Texas a 24-14 lead following a 13-play, 76-yard drive.

North Texas started the second half with a touchdown drive and after a UTSA fumble deep in its own territory, Mestemaker ran in a short touchdown for a 38-14 lead. Mestemaker added a 42-yard scoring pass to Young with 55 seconds left in the third. Caleb Hawkins rushed for 133 yards on 18 carries, and he also had eight catches for 90 yards for North Texas (6-1, 2-1 American). Cameron Dorner added 63 yards receiving and a touchdown.   Florida Football   Jadan Baugh ran for a career-high 150 yards and a touchdown, DJ Lagway threw for 280 yards to offset two interceptions and Florida beat Mississippi State 23-21 on Saturday in what may have been Gators coach Billy Napier's finale. The Gators (3-4, 2-2 Southeastern Conference) intercepted Blake Shapen's pass in the waning seconds with the Bulldogs (4-3, 0-3) within field-goal range. Defensive tackle Michai Boireau got the pick, sending the home crowd into a frenzy. Florida handed Mississippi State its 15th consecutive loss in league play, but a comedy of errors should be enough for athletic director Scott Stricklin to show Napier the door.

Napier improved to 22-23 overall and 12-16 in league play in four seasons, but this one included enough head-scratching decisions that Stricklin could easily justify firing him after a win. Most notably, Napier dialed up a QB keeper on a third-and-1 play in the waning minutes that gave the Bulldogs a chance down the stretch. He also called a keeper on a third-and-7 play earlier, took consecutive penalties that turned a chip-shot field goal into a long one, primarily ran the ball to get to the goal line and then threw incomplete three times, botched the final possession before halftime and was flagged for having 12 men on the field during a 2-point try. Florida also had a long touchdown called back because of a penalty for the fourth time this season. Still, the Gators were talented enough to overcome the miscues. Napier, however, had little leeway left for any sort of clunker. Shapen threw for 324 yards, including 155 to Brenen Thompson. Davon Booth ran for 105 yards and two touchdowns. - Florida/AP College Football

Oregon Football   UAB upset No. 22 Memphis 31-24 on Saturday in the debut of interim coach Alex Mortensen, the son of late ESPN reporter Chris Mortensen, after the Blazers fired Trent Dilfer a week earlier. Memphis (6-1, 2-1 American Athletic Conference) reached the 1 twice in the final minute going for a tying touchdown, but two false starts and one delay-of-game penalty stalled the drive. Memphis threw an incomplete pass into the end zone on fourth-and-goal from the 11. UAB (3-4, 1-3) was powered by a new starting quarterback, Ryder Burton, who completed 20 of his 27 passes for 351 yards and three touchdowns. Iverson Hooks caught 11 passes for 172 yards and all three of Burton's touchdown strikes. The Blazers also ran for over 200 yards against a FBS opponent for the first time since 2023. - UAB/AP College Football

Southern Methodist Football   Kevin Jennings threw for 290 yards and two touchdowns, Chris Johnson Jr. put the game away with a late 6-yard scoring run and SMU defeated Clemson 35-24 on Saturday to avenge last year's heartbreaking loss in the Atlantic Coast Conference championship game. Jordan Hudson finished with seven catches for 131 yards and a touchdown for the Mustangs (5-2, 3-0 ACC), who've won three straight. Clemson played without first-team Preseason All-American quarterback Cade Klubnik, who sat out with ankle injury. Christopher Vizzina made his first start for the Tigers (3-4, 2-3) and completed 29 of 42 passes for 317 yards with three touchdowns, including two to T.J. Moore. Moore had five catches for 124 yards, including a one-hand snag on a 62-yard touchdown reception. Clemson beat SMU 34-31 last December for the ACC title on a walk-off field goal, and this game provided similar drama. SMU led 29-17 in the fourth quarter when Clemson's Ricardo Jones intercepted Jennings near midfield with 10 minutes remaining.

Facing a fourth-and-21, Vizzina found a leaping Tristan Smith for a 23-yard touchdown strike between two defenders to cut the Mustangs' lead to 29-24 with 6:44 left and pumping life into the home crowd. But SMU drew a crucial pass interference penalty on a fourth-and-3 at the Clemson 39 to move the chains on the ensuing possession and Jennings followed with a 26-yard strike along the right sideline to Hudson on third-and-10. With Clemson needing stop to force a field goal and keep it a one-possession game, Johnson plowed into the end zone with 1:03 left to seal the victory. SMU outgained Clemson 139-35 on the ground. Clemson trailed 16-7 at the break and looked like it might get back in the game after Moore reached out and snagged a one-handed grab on a long ball from Vizzina and raced to the end zone. But SMU answered with a pair of 75-yard scoring drives on its next two possessions to take a 29-17 lead as McFall took a pitchout and raced 35 yards around right end untouched to the end zone and tight end Matthew Hibner hauled in a one-handed grab on a crossing route for a walk-in 22-yard TD. - SMU/AP College Football
