Southern Methodist Football   T.J. Harden scored on a 1-yard run in overtime, and SMU upset No. 10 Miami 26-20 on Saturday, handing the Hurricanes their second loss in three weeks and damaging their playoff hopes. Ahmaad Moses put the Mustangs (6-3, 4-1 Atlantic Coast) in position to win even with a field goal by intercepting Carson Beck just short of the goal line on the first possession of the extra period. Harden's score came on the last of his four consecutive runs as the Mustangs won their 13th consecutive home conference game a week after losing an ACC regular-season game for the first time in their second season since returning to a power league. Harden took a handoff and ran left untouched, launching a wild celebration as SMU students stormed the field from the stands behind the Miami bench. Fans toppled the goal post in the end zone where Harden scored. Marquise Lightfoot's critical unnecessary roughness penalty on a hit on quarterback Kevin Jennings after Miami called a timeout gave the Mustangs a first down when they were facing fourth-and-9 down three with 1:08 remaining in regulation.

Sam Keltner kicked a tying 38-yard field goal with 25 seconds remaining in regulation after a potential tying 42-yarder with about six minutes to go was ruled no good as the ball sailed over the right upright. SMU coach Rhett Lashlee, hours after the school announced his two-year contract extension, argued the call, but it wasn't reviewable. Jennings threw for a touchdown and ran for a score before ignoring an apparent lower left leg injury and returning to finish a drive to Keltner's 43-yard field for a 17-all tie in the final second of the third quarter. Beck had 274 yards passing with touchdowns to Joshisa Trader and Alex Bauman, but threw two interceptions in Miami's first game outside Florida this season. The Mustangs had negative yards rushing when they started overtime. The 25 yards on the winning possession put them at 23 for the game. - SMU/AP College Football

Arizona State Football   Jeff Sims set an Arizona State quarterback rushing record with 228 yards, finished with 405 yards of total offense and had a hand in three touchdowns to lead the Sun Devils past Iowa State 24-19 Saturday. Sims got the record when he broke an 88-yard touchdown run in the third quarter to put the Sun Devils (6-3, 4-2 Big 12) up 24-16. Mark Malone set the previous record in 1978 when he ran for 178 yards against Southern California. The Cyclones (5-4, 2-4) lost their fourth straight game when they were stopped a yard short at the ASU 20 on a fourth-and-6 with 16 seconds left. Sims carried 29 times for the Sun Devils and completed 13 of 24 passes for 174 yards. Chamon Metayer caught six passes for 68 yards and a touchdown, and Raleek Brown ran 16 times for 64 yards.   Miami Football   Duke coach Manny Diaz did not want to chance overtime at Clemson's Death Valley. His team made sure he wouldn't have to. Nate Sheppard had a 3-yard touchdown run with 40 seconds left and Duke followed with a two-point conversion from Darian Mensah to Shamir Hagans to win at Clemson for the first time since 1980 with a 46-45 victory Saturday. "Going extra innings at Death Valley isn't really a good plan," Diaz said. Winning in regulation somewhere you hadn't in 45 years? "This is a major step for our program," Diaz said. The Blue Devils (5-3, 4-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) trailed 45-38 and started the game-winning drive on their 6-yard line. Mensah led an 11-play drive in which he converted two fourth downs to set up Sheppard's TD run.

There was no hesitation from Duke's Diaz who kept the offense on the field and Mensah quicky found Hagans for the decisive points. It was a quirky game of dramatic momentum swings. Duke looked unstoppable in gaining 199 yards in the first quarter to lead 21-7. But Clemson woke up with three straight TDs to lead 28-21. The Tigers looked in control again with six minutes left until Duke's final drive. "We just stayed poised and showed our confidence," Mensah said. It was another low moment in a terrible season for Clemson (3-5, 1-4), the defending ACC champions and a trendy pick to win Dabo Swinney's third national title. The Tigers have lost four home games for the first time since 1998. They're on pace for Swinney's worst season since 2010 when the Tigers were 6-7 and the coach thought his time at the school was done. Instead, he won eight ACC titles and national championships after the 2016 and 2018 seasons. "I feel like I'm in 2010 all over again," Swinney said. After Duke took the final lead, the Tigers tried a desperation, pass the ball to anyone open play as the clock ran out. When Duke finally stopped the play, the sidelines jumped into joyous celebration. After all, it had been more than four decades since the football Blue Devils had left Death Valley with a victory. - Duke/AP College Football

Tennessee Tech Football   Tre' Holloway scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter, Maurice LaPierre had three sacks, and Tennessee Tech scored 24 unanswered points to beat Gardner-Webb 27-21 on Sunday and extend its winning streak to 14 games, the longest in FCS football. The Golden Eagles (9-0, 6-0 OVC-Big South) took their first lead eight seconds into the fourth quarter after securing a sack fumble on Cole Pennington. Kekoa Visperas found Holloway for a 43-yard touchdown two plays later. Holloway temporarily broke the game open with a 60-yard score on a sweep play with 7:47 remaining, making it 24 unanswered points.

The Runnin' Bulldogs (5-4, 3-2) came up short on a fake punt on a fourth-and-11 with 7:04 remaining, but got a first down on an unnecessary roughness call. The penalty set up a 24-yard touchdown from Pennington to Anthony Lowe, to make it a one-score game. Pennington was sacked by LaPierre for the third time, and the seventh of the day on the final drive. It's the first time since 1952 that the FCS No. 8 Golden Eagles have started 9-0. Their top scoring offense in FCS football was held to 27 points, tied for their fewest this season. - AP College Football

The Citadel Football   Quentin Hayes accounted for three fourth-quarter touchdowns as The Citadel scored 28 unanswered points to come back against VMI, 35-24 on Saturday. The Bulldogs (4-5, 3-3 Southern Conference) trailed 24-7 after an early-fourth quarter field goal by VMI;s Ben Shrewsbury, but a 6-yard scoring rush from Hayes two minutes later started the rally. Hayes heaved a 72-yard touchdown pass to Jihad Marks for a score just 26 seconds after getting possession back, and Garrison Johnson Sr. added an 11-yard touchdown run to pull ahead with 4:33 remaining.

Marks and Hayes linked up for another score, this time a 33-yarder with 12 seconds to go, to add some late insurance and send The Citadel to their first win against a Div.
