Texas Football   The Texas Longhorns returned to the top 10 of the Associated Press college football poll on Sunday, while the ACC has five teams ranked for the first time this season and two Group of 5 conferences are now represented with a month before the College Football Playoff bracket is set. The Longhorns, the preseason No. 1 team, are ranked No. 10 in advance of their visit to No. 5 Georgia this week. They had been in the top 10 for the first six polls before their loss at Florida knocked them out of the Top 25 for a week. Four straight wins elevated them to No. 13 last week, and they jumped three spots ahead of BYU and Virginia and an idle Oklahoma, which they beat 23-6 on Oct. 11. Texas did not play over the weekend.

BYU, which was unbeaten before its 29-7 loss at Texas Tech, dropped four spots to No. 12 to end its two-week stay in the top 10. Ohio State was No. 1 for the 11th week in a row with 55 first-place votes. Indiana remained No. 2 after its narrow escape at Penn State, but the Hoosiers' six first-place votes were five fewer than last week. No. 3 Texas A&M got four first-place votes, three more than a week ago, and was 31 points behind Indiana. Alabama and Georgia rounded out the top five. Ole Miss, Oregon, Texas Tech, Notre Dame and Texas rounded out the top 10. In all, 19 spots in the Top 25 changed hands. - AP College Football

Texas Tech Football   Texas Tech linebacker Jacob Rodriguez indicated he was somewhat coerced by teammates into striking a Heisman Trophy pose during another dominant defensive performance by the ninth-ranked Red Raiders. The 6-foot-1, 235-pounder with a distinctive mustache now copied by Texas Tech fans should at least be in the conversation for college football's highest individual honor. After Rodriguez had 14 tackles and two takeaways for the No. 8 Red Raiders in their 29-7 win over previously undefeated No. 7 BYU on Saturday, three-time Super Bowl MVP quarterback Patrick Mahomes - who was at the game during the Kansas City Chiefs' bye week - posted on social media: "Get him to New York! @HeismanTrophy." For all the Air Raid offenses that have blown through Texas Tech in recent decades, including the one operated by Mahomes, who threw for 11,252 yards and 93 touchdowns from 2014 to 2016, no Texas Tech player has brought a Heisman Trophy back to the South Plains.

Now, the linebacker who began his college career as a quarterback at Virginia could make a strong bid. Rodriguez, the FBS leader with seven forced fumbles, had his third interception of the season in the third quarter when he reached out and tipped the ball to himself. He struck the pose after that play. "My guys, they wanted me to hit it. Just a rush of adrenaline," Rodriguez said of his pose. - AP College Football

Indiana Football   The volatility and unpredictability of the 2025 college football season has rippled through the group of draft-eligible quarterbacks. ESPN repolled 25 NFL scouts and executives about who will be the first quarterback taken in the 2026 NFL draft, with the results drastically different from six weeks ago. In the latest poll, Indiana's Fernando Mendoza was the top vote-getter with 13 votes, putting him ahead of Oregon's Dante Moore (6) and Alabama's Ty Simpson (3). Notably, none of those quarterbacks received a vote in the first poll, and all have eligibility remaining.

The other three quarterbacks receiving votes were Oklahoma's John Mateer (1), Cincinnati's Brendan Sorsby (1) and South Carolina's LaNorris Sellers (1). Only Sellers and Mateer had votes in the first poll. "It's not a stellar class," one scout told ESPN. "If you add the maybes [who have eligibility and could leave school], now it gets interesting. The top is better than last year's class, for sure." The top of this year's crop has flipped from Sept. 20, when seven different quarterbacks received votes, with Sellers (8) edging out LSU's Garrett Nussmeier (7). Both players and their teams have struggled this season. Others receiving votes in the first QB1 poll were Miami's Carson Beck (3), Mateer (3), Penn State's Drew Allar (2), Arizona State's Sam Leavitt (1) and Texas' Arch Manning (1). The sentiment regarding the class has soured a bit since the initial polling. Along with the dip in play from Sellers and Nussmeier, Allar suffered a season-ending injury and Manning hasn't resembled anything close to what his family and recruiting pedigrees projected. While Mendoza is the top vote-getter, he has yet to establish himself as a no-brainer No. 1 overall pick. He is trending that way, but there is not yet conviction behind those projections. - Pete Thamel, ESPN College Football

Hawaii Football   Micah Alejado threw three first-half touchdown passes to Jackson Harris on Saturday night to help Hawaii beat San Diego State 38-6. Alejado was 22-of-34 passing for 256 yards with an interception and Harris finished with 130 yards receiving on seven catches for Hawaii (7-3, 4-2 Mountain West Conference). The duo connected on TDs of 9, 34 and 35 yards before Kansei Matsuzawa capped a 16-play, 76-yard drive that took more than 7 1/2 minutes off the clock with a 22-yard field goal that made it 24-6 late in the second quarter.

Matsuzawa has made each of his 22 field-goal attempts this season. Cam Barfield returned the opening kickoff of the second half 86 yards for a touchdown and Elijah Palmer had a 53-yard pick-6 that capped the scoring in the fourth quarter. Gabriel Plascencia kicked field goals of 42 and 43 yards in the first half for San Diego State (7-2, 4-1). The Aztecs fell into a tie with Boise State atop the conference, a half-game ahead of third-place Hawaii.   Nebraska Football   TJ Lateef was 13 for 15 for 205 yards and three touchdown passes in his first collegiate start, Emmett Johnson went over 100 yards rushing and receiving, and Nebraska defeated UCLA 28-21 on Saturday night for its first win in Pasadena since 1993. Playing at the Rose Bowl 25 miles from his hometown of Compton, Lateef took over from Dylan Raiola, who is out for the rest of the season with a lower right leg injury he sustained in a 21-17 loss to Southern California last week. Lateef played the final four possessions against the Trojans. As the first true freshman to start for Nebraska since 1950, Lateef directed the Cornhuskers (7-3, 4-3 Big Ten) to scores on their first four possessions for a 27-7 lead. "I was just really trying to soak the whole moment up," Lateef said. "It was a blessing." Jacory Barney Jr. caught Lateef's 2-yard pass on the right side pylon, which bent over, for Nebraska's first TD after a video review. Lateef hit Johnson with a pass at the Nebraska 41 and Johnson rumbled 56 yards down the left sideline past his own bench for the score. Johnson's 1-yard TD run capped the Cornhuskers' scoring in the first half. "Emmett is just an absolute weapon," Huskers coach Matt Rhule said. Nebraska extended its lead to 28-7 to open the third on Johnson's 40-yard TD catch from Lateef. Chants of "Go Big Red!" filled the Rose Bowl from red-clad fans who packed the historic stadium's east stands.

They also shouted out Lateef's name. "It was cool, man," he said. Lateef was 10 for 10 for 173 yards going into the fourth. Already the first 1,000-yard rusher at Nebraska since 2018, Johnson had 28 carries for 129 yards and ran for one TD. He had three catches for 103 yards and two TDs. "Most of our game plan was to stop 21 (Johnson)," UCLA interim coach Tim Skipper said. "He's a special, special player." After a bye week, the Bruins (3-6, 3-3) were trying to bounce back from a 56-6 drubbing at No. 2 Indiana that ended their three-game winning streak. Their only score in the first half was Jalen Berger's 1-yard run on a direct snap that tied the game 7-7. Mateen Bhaghani missed a 49-yard field-goal attempt wide left just before halftime. Nico Iamaleava hit Anthony Woods with a 45-yard TD pass that left UCLA trailing 28-14 in the third. The Bruins closed to 28-21 on Iamaleava's 9-yard scoring pass to Anthony Frias II with 4:54 remaining in the game on a drive that began at their 3-yard line. Iamaleava was 17 for 25 for 191 yards and two touchdowns. He was the team's leading rusher with 15 carries for 86 yards. - Nebraska/AP College Football

Transfer Football   Mabrey Mettauer threw a touchdown pass and the Sam Houston special teams scored two second-half touchdowns to help the Bearkats beat Oregon State 21-17 on Saturday night and snap an eight-game losing streak. Sam Houston (1-8) avoided the first 0-9 start to a season in program history and Bearkats first-year coach Phil Longo got his first win as a head coach since Nov. 12, 2005, when he was at La Salle.

Mettauer hit Chris Reed for a 35-yard touchdown with 1:14 left in the second quarter that trimmed Sam Houston's deficit to 17-7 at halftime. Tim Burns Jr. returned the opening kickoff of the second half 98 yards for a touchdown and Lyric Smith blocked a punt that Brody Henderson scooped up and ran 31 yards for a TD that gave the Bearkats a 21-17 lead with 8:29 to play. Sam Houston had just eight first downs and was outgained 474-157 total yards. Anthony Hankerson had 33 carries for 166 yards and two touchdowns for Oregon State (2-7) and David Wells Jr. had nine receptions for 112 yards.   Nebraska Football   Anthony Colandrea accounted for four touchdowns, Jai'Den Thomas had 131 yards rushing - which included a 57-yard touchdown - on seven carries, and UNLV beat Colorado State 42-10 on Saturday night. Colandrea was 15-of-22 passing for 251 yards with touchdowns of 68 yards to Troy Omeire and 39 yards to Taeshaun Lyons. His first touchdown run, 5-yarder with 7:07 left in the second quarter, made it 14-10 and gave UNLV (7-2, 3-2 Mountain West Conference) the lead for good.

Jaylon Glover ran for a 6-yard touchdown late in the second quarter. Colandrea capped a seven-play, 91-yard drive with a 2-yard TD run that made it 35-10 with 3:11 to go in the third. Jackson Brousseau threw a 3-yard touchdown pass to Rocky Beers to open the scoring and Isaiah Hankins kicked a 23-yard field goal in the second quarter for Colorado State (2-7, 1-4).   Alabama Football   No. 4 Alabama delivered its best defensive effort in Southeastern Conference play this season and beat LSU 20-9 on Saturday night, keeping the Tigers out of the end zone for the first time since the 2012 national championship game. The Crimson Tide (8-1, 6-0 SEC, No. 4 CFP) allowed just 13 first downs and 232 yards while winning their eighth consecutive game. Alabama extended its home winning streak to 17 games, the longest in the Football Bowl Subdivision, and remained on track for a spot in the league title game and the College Football Playoff. "I feel like the defense has been pretty solid," coach Kalen DeBoer said. "There's less of the explosive plays and guys are fitting their gaps. We missed a few opportunities with the ball on the ground or in the air. I like the way the defense is playing and they'll go back to work tomorrow." Ty Simpson completed 21 of 35 passes for 277 yards and a touchdown for the Crimson Tide, but he had several missed opportunities on downfield throws that could have put the game away. "I think our guys practiced hard," DeBoer said. "There's just some things we can do better to separate ourselves in the third quarter when we have a chance to put a team away. There's been a couple games now where we haven't done that and we need to get better at it." Garrett Nussmeier completed 18 of 21 passes for 121 yards for LSU (5-4, 2-4), but he was benched in the third quarter in favor of sophomore Michael Van Buren, who completed 5 of 11 passes for 52 yards in relief.

It was a disappointing debut for LSU interim coach Frank Wilson, who took over when Brian Kelly was fired. The Tigers were penalized 10 times and were limited to nine points in four red-zone trips as they lost to the Crimson Tide for the third straight year. "I thought (Nussmeier) did some good things early on," Wilson said. "As we got into the depths of the game, we just thought it was an opportunity to change up and throw them off." A relatively modest performance by Alabama's offense - 344 total yards - was boosted by explosive plays. Simpson completed four passes of 30 or more yards in the first half; LSU had only given up five all season before Saturday. However, getting a run game that only mustered 56 yards back on track will be critical late in the season and potentially in the playoff. "We missed opportunities that will help open up the box," DeBoer said. "We've got to do a better job blocking and better job falling ahead for yards. Those extra yards can hurt them. We've got to give the running backs better lanes and we've certainly got to be better than we were." - Alabama/AP College Football

California Football   Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele threw a 3-yard touchdown pass to Jacob De Jesus in overtime and California beat No. 14 Louisville 29-26 on Saturday night for its first victory over a ranked team in its last 15 attempts. The Golden Bears (6-4, 3-3 Atlantic Coast Conference) elected to go for the win on fourth down and succeeded as Sagapolutele rolled left and hit De Jesus just across the goal line to end a slugfest featuring four ties in regulation. Cal went on defense after winning the toss and held the Cardinals to Cooper Ranvier's 49-yard field goal. Sagapolutele completed 30 of 47 passes for 323 yards and two touchdowns to help the Bears halt a two-game slide and become bowl eligible for the third consecutive season. They outgained Louisville 427-351, including 350-203 through the air, for their first win over a ranked opponent since beating Oregon on Dec. 5, 2020.

De Jesus, a UNLV transfer, had career highs of 16 receptions and 158 yards. Cal's defensive stand in OT was a continuation from regulation as it limited Louisville's high-octane attack through the air. Cornerback Hezekiah Masses recorded the game's only turnover with a third-quarter interception - his fifth this season - to set up Chase Meyer's 45-yard field goal for a 20-13 lead. "I mean a lot of guys (were) down," Cal coach Justin Wilcox said of an injury-riddled defense missing six starters from the beginning of the season. "I'm just proud of the guys that came in there and fought. The DBs made some key plays in the game. Those corners were getting competitive, making tackles, obviously they had the big pick. We were plus one in the turnover margin, which was big." Miller Moss was 20 of 38 for 203 yards and rushed for a touchdown for Louisville (7-2, 4-2, No. 15 CFP) which had won three straight since an overtime home loss to Virginia. Keyjaun Brown ran for 136 yards on 14 carries, and Duke Watson rushed for a score. Ranvier kicked two 49-yard field goals and made two others from 39 and 30 yards. The Cardinals missed a chance to gain an edge after entering the game as one of five one-loss ACC teams hoping to get to the conference championship. - Cal/AP College Football

Notre Dame Football   C.J. Carr threw for 218 yards and three touchdowns and No. 10 Notre Dame beat Navy 49-10 on a snowy Saturday night for its seventh consecutive victory. Carr completed 13 of 16 passes and Notre Dame (7-2) led 42-10 when he gave way to backup quarterback Kenny Minchey late in the third quarter. Carr wasn't bothered by the steady rain that later became snow. "I love it," Carr said. "Being from Michigan, I played in the rain and the snow. You'd rather play in the sunshine, but I can handle it." Jeremiyah Love gained 94 yards on 13 carries and scored two touchdowns. He scored on a stunning 48-yard run where he went down but didn't touch the turf, rolling off a defender and racing to the end zone after regaining his footing.

Aneyas Williams added a 54-yard TD run in the fourth quarter. "I'm obviously proud of the way our guys battled," Notre Dame coach Marcus Freeman said. "It's always a great challenge when you get ready to play Navy just because of the uniqueness of their schemes on both sides of the ball. It is difficult to prepare for because it's not something you see every week and it's a good team." Navy (7-2) played without quarterback Blake Horvath after he was injured last week in a 31-17 loss to North Texas "We didn't want to put him in harm's way and make something worse," Navy coach Brian Newberry said. "I didn't feel comfortable putting him out there. Hopefully, he'll be out there next week." Braxton Woodson started in place of Horvath and gained 101 yards on 23 carries. He scored Navy's lone TD on a 2-yard run that tied it at 7. Navy entered the game leading the nation in rushing (317 yards a game). The Midshipmen gained 154 yards on the ground in the first half, but were limited to 52 in the second. "I really didn't think it would be as lop-sided as it was," Newberry said. "I thought we came out in the first half and played relatively well. They had a couple of explosive passes. We were able to stop the run for the most part. The difference was on defense, not being able to get off the field on third downs." - Notre Dame/AP College Football

Wake Forest Football   Carlos Hernandez returned a bouncing punt 88 yards in the third quarter for the game's only touchdown, and Wake Forest handed No. 12 Virginia its first Atlantic Coast Conference loss of the season, 16-9 on Saturday night. Playing most of the night without quarterback Chandler Morris, who was injured when he took a hit to the head and neck area on a second-quarter run, Virginia (8-2, 5-1, No. 14 CFP) became the last ACC team to lose a league game this year, disappointing a crowd of 55,568 at Scott Stadium that had been energized by the Cavaliers' best start in 35 years. "We got them to do something they normally don't do and turn the ball over," Wake Forest coach Jake Dickert said. "Really proud of our guys. No one thought we could go to a bowl game. These guys fought with resiliency, they kept punching and found a way to win." Connor Calvert kicked three field goals for the Demon Deacons (6-3, 3-3), including from 50 and 49 yards in the second half, helping Wake Forest notch its first win over a top-15 opponent since 1979.

Neither offense found the end zone. "They did their part to kind of keep us within striking range," Virginia coach Tony Elliott said of his defense. "Unfortunately, we didn't play complementary football." Virginia, which had won seven straight, had played a string of tight games, going 4-1 in one-score contests before Saturday. "We played with fire," Elliott said. "And we got burned." Virginia totaled 327 yards of offense to just 203 for Wake Forest, but the Cavaliers were held without a touchdown for the first time since a 14-12, four-overtime loss at Miami in 2022. - Wake Forest/AP College Football

Arizona State Football   Kentucky took advantage of four Florida turnovers and Cutter Boley threw for 168 yards and two touchdowns as the Wildcats handled the Gators 38-7. Seth McGowan ran for two touchdowns, and Dante Dowdell scored on a 65-yard run in the first home SEC win for Kentucky (4-5, 2-5) since a 33-14 win over Florida on Sept. 30, 2023. Gator quarterback DJ Lagway was picked off three times in the first half before being replaced by freshman Tramell Jones Jr. after halftime. Kentucky scored 10 points off the Florida (3-6, 2-4) miscues.

Boley completed passes to 10 different receivers, including scoring passes of 29 yards to J.J. Hester and 15 yards to Jason Patterson. "This whole week, we came with juice, and everybody was excited, and everybody was ready to play," Boley said. "We had a heartbeat tonight, and it was just really good to see these guys play hard. Kentucky led 24-7 at the half and put the game away to start the third quarter with a 13-play drive that took 7:26 off the clock. McGowan ended the drive with his second score of the night, a 5-yard run. "That was an enormous drive to start the second half. We mixed it up and had balance," Kentucky coach Mark Stoops said.   Clemson Football   Dabo Swinney loved seeing the Clemson Tigers he'd gotten used so. "I loved their effort, I loved their toughness, I loved their stick-to-it-ness," coach Swinney said after his team's first home victory in two months with a 24-10 victory Florida State on Saturday night. "It don't get old to beat the 'Noles," Swinney said. Cade Klubnik threw for a touchdown and ran for a second to lead the Tigers (4-5, 3-4 Atlantic Coast Conference) to a win in Death Valley for the first time since defeating Troy on Sept. 6. The Tigers and Seminoles (4-5, 1-5) looked like they would have big implications on the ACC race. But both contenders were out of the picture early and left scrambling to salvage lost seasons.

Clemson was 1-4 at home this season and had lost its past six games against Power 4 programs on its field. This time, though, the Tigers took an 18-0 lead and took advantage of nearly all of Florida State's miscues. They held the league's top offense to its lowest totals with 360 yards, 110 yards rushing and 10 points. "Our record isn't what we want to be," Swinney said. "But when you see the resilience, you know what these guys have under the hood." Klubnik had a 3-yard TD run to finish the 75-yard opening scoring drive and holder Clay Swinney - the youngest son of coach Swinney - bolted for a two-point conversion. The Tigers cashed in on a fourth-down stop in the second quarter inside Florida State territory with a 34-yard flea flicker scoring pass from Klubnik to Antonio Williams. Down 24-7 in the fourth quarter, the Seminoles were called for offensive pass interference and unnecessary roughness to push them back. The Tiger defense struggled the past two games, allowing 81 points combined in losses to SMU and Duke. Maybe it was a visit by former national championship defensive coordinator Brent Venables or a renewed dedication to finishing strong, but Clemson held strong when it mattered most. The Tigers had a fourth-down stop and forced a fumble with Florida State on Clemson's 8 to end two promising first-half drives by Florida State. - Clemson/AP College Football

Utah State Football   Bryson Barnes and Miles Davis accounted for four first-half touchdowns as Utah State built a big lead by halftime and routed Nevada 51-14 on Saturday night. Utah State (5-4, 3-2 Mountain West Conference) scored on six of its first seven possessions and led 41-0 at halftime. Barnes was 20-for-27 passing for 288 yards and threw two of his three touchdown passes in the first half. Davis had a pair of short-yardage touchdown runs.

Brady Boyd had five catches for 117 yards with a 53-yard, first-quarter touchdown catch and a 21-yarder in the third for the Aggies. Brevin Hamblin had a 38-yard pick-6 in the first quarter and Anthony Garcia had a 15-yard TD catch in the second. Barnes finished 20 of 27 for 288 yards with three touchdown passes.   Washington State Football   Caden Pinnick threw three touchdown passes and ran for a score to guide UC Davis to a 35-14 victory over Idaho on Saturday night. Pinnick staked UC Davis (7-2, 5-1 Big Sky Conference) to a 14-0 first-quarter lead with an 11-yard touchdown pass to Ian Simpson and an 8-yarder to Samuel Gbatu Jr. Joshua Wood capped a two-play drive drive when he fired a 68-yard scoring strike to Michael Graves as Idaho (4-6, 2-4) pulled within 14-7 just 11 seconds into the second quarter. Pinnick scored on a 22-yard run to finish off a 10-play, 94-yard drive with 2:17 left for a 21-7 advantage at halftime.

Pinnick's 3-yard scoring toss to Stacy Dobbins was the lone score in the third quarter. Wood connected with Graves again for a 35-yard touchdown and the Vandals cut it to 28-14 with 11:35 left to play. Wood drove Idaho to a first-and-goal at the 10-yard line with 2:46 remaining, but Jayden Stanley intercepted his fourth-down pass to end the threat. Pinnick finished with 248 yards on 21-for-27 passing with two interceptions. Gbatu had seven receptions for 110 yards and Jordan Fisher rushed for 103 yards on 21 carries.
