Virginia Tech Football   West Virginia's Curtis Jones Jr. said he's available to play running back whenever he's needed. Jones normally lines up at a hybrid linebacker position, but the sophomore who played on both sides of the ball in high school has been given more practice time in the offensive backfield in recent weeks due to numerous injuries to others. On Saturday, Jones had two short TD runs on his three carries and West Virginia held off Colorado 29-22. "He could be a weapon," West Virginia coach Rich Rodriguez said. Jones was the only back who weighed more than 180 pounds available for the Mountaineers after backup Tyler Jacklish got hurt in practice on Wednesday. "I had to shake the dust off a little bit in practice," Jones said, adding that it doesn't matter what side of the ball he's playing on. "I'm just trying to help my team in any situation I can." West Virginia (4-6, 2-6 Big 12) has won two straight for the first time this season.

Colorado (3-7, 1-6 Big 12) has lost three straight. The Buffaloes kept this one close after being outscored 105-24 in their previous two contests. Colorado freshman Ju Ju Lewis threw two touchdown passes in his first start in place of Kaidon Salter. He brought the Buffaloes within 19-16 with a 23-yard scoring toss to Omarion Miller midway through the third quarter. But Colorado never held the lead. Jones punched in a 2-yard run for a score in the second quarter, then scoring on a 4-yard run with 4:15 left in the game for a 29-19 lead. After Alejandro Mata's third field goal brought Colorado within 29-22 with 1:16 left, West Virginia recovered the ensuing onside kick and ran out the clock. - West Virginia/AP College Football

Central Florida Football   Alonza Barnett threw three touchdown passes including an 80-yard strike to Jaylan Sanchez that proved to be the winning points in James Madison's 35-23 win over Marshall on Saturday. Barnett found Sanchez deep down the middle. Sanchez gathered in the ball, his defender fell, and he cruised into the end zone for a 28-12 lead midway through the third quarter. The Thundering Herd (4-5, 2/3 Sun Belt) got within five points on Carlos Del Rio-Wilson's 4-yard pass to Tracy Stephens and Lorcan Quinn's third field goal of the game. But Barnett connected with Wayne Knight for a 49-yard catch-and-run TD with 2:16 remaining to seal the seventh straight win for the Dukes (8-1, 6-0).

Barnett was 14 of 24 for 270 yards with an interception. Knight had 79 yards receiving and added 87 on the ground plus another TD. Sanchez had 86 yards receiving and Braeden Wisloski also caught a TD pass. Antwan Roberts rushed for 121 yards on 20 carries with a touchdown. Del Rio-Wilson added 73 yards rushing and 154 passing. Quinn's field goals included a 52-yarder at the end of the half to trail 21-12.   Ohio State Football   Julian Sayin threw for 303 yards and one touchdown Saturday and No. 1 Ohio State used four straight scoring drives in the second quarter to pull away from Purdue 34-10. Jeremiah Smith finished with a season-high 10 catches for 137 yards and caught a 35-yard TD pass to break open the game. It was his 10th scoring catch of the season and the 25th of his career, tying him with Santonio Holmes for sixth on the Buckeyes all-time list. Sayin was 27 of 33 with one interception, and C.J. Donaldson Jr. scored the first and final touchdowns of the game for Ohio State - both on 1-yard plunges, "They're business-like, they're growing up every day," Buckeyes coach Ryan Day said when asked how he would describe his team. "I think they're edgy, they're competitive, they know what they want to get done. They've seen it and they have some perspective on it." The defending national champion Buckeyes (9-0, 6-0 Big Ten) extended the nation's longest active winning streak to 13 and remained on pace for a possible Big Ten championship game showdown against No. 2 Indiana. The Hoosiers kept their unbeaten record intact by rallying in the final to earn their first-ever win at Penn State.

Ryan Browne was 10 of 19 for 76 yards and one interception for Purdue (2-7, 0-7), which had only 186 total yards on a day Ohio State more than 40 minutes. The Boilermakers have lost seven straight overall and a school record 16 straight against Big Ten foes. Still, they took a 3-0 lead with a 40-yard field goal late in the first quarter but couldn't respond to Ohio State's second-quarter onslaught. "The second quarter got away from us a bit, the long drive, the takeaway, it's hard to overcome those things against a team like this," coach Barry Odom said. "But I saw some things there. I'm going to keep believing that we're going to get back to those winning ways. Donaldson's first scoring run made it 7-3 less than a minute into the second quarter. Smith's TD catch gave the Buckeyes a 14-3 lead. Ohio State then closed the half with a 3-yard touchdown run from Lincoln Kienholz and a career-long 49-yard field goal from Jayden Fielding in the final 72 seconds of the half to make it 24-3. Bo Jackson finished with 75 yards rushing on 14 carries as the Buckeyes ran for 170 yards. - Ohio State/AP College Football

Georgia Football   Gunner Stockton threw for 264 yards and three touchdowns and No. 5 Georgia beat Mississippi State 41-21 on Saturday. Georgia (8-1, 6-1 SEC) surrendered a touchdown on the opening drive of the game and then scored 38 straight points. "Really proud of our guys. I thought that was a total team effort in a really tough place to play," Georgia coach Kirby Smart said. "I have a lot of respect for Jeff (Lebby). This team has played great all year. We had good leadership this week and our conditioning was the difference." It was a complete mismatch on both sides of the ball as the Georgia Bulldogs held the Mississippi State Bulldogs (5-5, 1-5 SEC) scoreless on six consecutive possessions while scoring five straight touchdowns themselves. Everything worked for Georgia offensively as Stockton finished 18 of 29 passing for 264 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for 31 more yards.

Where Georgia really set the tone was in the rushing attack. The visiting Bulldogs had 305 yards rushing and averaged 7.3 yards per carry with freshman Nate Frazier running for 181 yards yards and a touchdown on only 12 carries. Zachariah Branch had eight catches for 68 yards and a score and Noah Thomas finished with three catches for 78 yards and a touchdown. "It was a total team effort. You can't run the ball unless you commit to the run," Smart said. "It takes extra work and reps, but we have a special team that believes in that and a quarterback that believes in that." A bevy of injuries came MSU's way in the game. Starting quarterback Blake Shapen left the game in the third quarter with an apparent head injury and did not return. Defensive captain Isaac Smith left the first half with a lower leg injury while safety Brylan Lanier exited in the second half. Shapen finished the game 10 of 15 for 86 yards and had 15 yards rushing. MSU had 149 yards rushing overall. Freshman Kamario Taylor came in for Shapen and finished 6 of 10 for 67 yards and had 12 carries for 53 yards with all three of the team's scores. Fluff Bothwell had nine carries for 44 yards and Brenen Thompson was the leading receiver with four catches for 92 yards. - Georgia/AP College Football

Giovannelli scored on a 6-yard run late in the first quarter to cap a 14-play, 85-yard drive that started when the Bulldogs turned the ball over on downs at the Tommies 15. The last two Drake drives failed to get out of Bulldog territory because of fourth-down stops in the final five minutes. Nick Hand and Ryan Sever led the defense for the Tommies (7-3, 5-2 Pioneer Football League), combing for 21 tackles, six apiece solo tackles.
