Wake Forest Football   Carlos Hernandez returned a bouncing punt 88 yards in the third quarter for the game's only touchdown, and Wake Forest handed No. 12 Virginia its first Atlantic Coast Conference loss of the season, 16-9 on Saturday night. Playing most of the night without quarterback Chandler Morris, who was injured when he took a hit to the head and neck area on a second-quarter run, Virginia (8-2, 5-1, No. 14 CFP) became the last ACC team to lose a league game this year, disappointing a crowd of 55,568 at Scott Stadium that had been energized by the Cavaliers' best start in 35 years. "We got them to do something they normally don't do and turn the ball over," Wake Forest coach Jake Dickert said. "Really proud of our guys. No one thought we could go to a bowl game. These guys fought with resiliency, they kept punching and found a way to win." Connor Calvert kicked three field goals for the Demon Deacons (6-3, 3-3), including from 50 and 49 yards in the second half, helping Wake Forest notch its first win over a top-15 opponent since 1979.

Neither offense found the end zone. "They did their part to kind of keep us within striking range," Virginia coach Tony Elliott said of his defense. "Unfortunately, we didn't play complementary football." Virginia, which had won seven straight, had played a string of tight games, going 4-1 in one-score contests before Saturday. "We played with fire," Elliott said. "And we got burned." Virginia totaled 327 yards of offense to just 203 for Wake Forest, but the Cavaliers were held without a touchdown for the first time since a 14-12, four-overtime loss at Miami in 2022. - Wake Forest/AP College Football

Arizona State Football   Kentucky took advantage of four Florida turnovers and Cutter Boley threw for 168 yards and two touchdowns as the Wildcats handled the Gators 38-7. Seth McGowan ran for two touchdowns, and Dante Dowdell scored on a 65-yard run in the first home SEC win for Kentucky (4-5, 2-5) since a 33-14 win over Florida on Sept. 30, 2023. Gator quarterback DJ Lagway was picked off three times in the first half before being replaced by freshman Tramell Jones Jr. after halftime. Kentucky scored 10 points off the Florida (3-6, 2-4) miscues.

Boley completed passes to 10 different receivers, including scoring passes of 29 yards to J.J. Hester and 15 yards to Jason Patterson. "This whole week, we came with juice, and everybody was excited, and everybody was ready to play," Boley said. "We had a heartbeat tonight, and it was just really good to see these guys play hard. Kentucky led 24-7 at the half and put the game away to start the third quarter with a 13-play drive that took 7:26 off the clock. McGowan ended the drive with his second score of the night, a 5-yard run. "That was an enormous drive to start the second half. We mixed it up and had balance," Kentucky coach Mark Stoops said. "Having a long drive and getting seven points out of it is pretty important." - Kentucky/AP College Football

Clemson Football   Dabo Swinney loved seeing the Clemson Tigers he'd gotten used so. "I loved their effort, I loved their toughness, I loved their stick-to-it-ness," coach Swinney said after his team's first home victory in two months with a 24-10 victory Florida State on Saturday night. "It don't get old to beat the 'Noles," Swinney said. Cade Klubnik threw for a touchdown and ran for a second to lead the Tigers (4-5, 3-4 Atlantic Coast Conference) to a win in Death Valley for the first time since defeating Troy on Sept. 6. The Tigers and Seminoles (4-5, 1-5) looked like they would have big implications on the ACC race. But both contenders were out of the picture early and left scrambling to salvage lost seasons.

Clemson was 1-4 at home this season and had lost its past six games against Power 4 programs on its field. This time, though, the Tigers took an 18-0 lead and took advantage of nearly all of Florida State's miscues. They held the league's top offense to its lowest totals with 360 yards, 110 yards rushing and 10 points. "Our record isn't what we want to be," Swinney said. "But when you see the resilience, you know what these guys have under the hood." Klubnik had a 3-yard TD run to finish the 75-yard opening scoring drive and holder Clay Swinney - the youngest son of coach Swinney - bolted for a two-point conversion. The Tigers cashed in on a fourth-down stop in the second quarter inside Florida State territory with a 34-yard flea flicker scoring pass from Klubnik to Antonio Williams. Down 24-7 in the fourth quarter, the Seminoles were called for offensive pass interference and unnecessary roughness to push them back. The Tiger defense struggled the past two games, allowing 81 points combined in losses to SMU and Duke. Maybe it was a visit by former national championship defensive coordinator Brent Venables or a renewed dedication to finishing strong, but Clemson held strong when it mattered most. The Tigers had a fourth-down stop and forced a fumble with Florida State on Clemson's 8 to end two promising first-half drives by Florida State. - Clemson/AP College Football

Washington State Football   Caden Pinnick threw three touchdown passes and ran for a score to guide UC Davis to a 35-14 victory over Idaho on Saturday night. Pinnick staked UC Davis (7-2, 5-1 Big Sky Conference) to a 14-0 first-quarter lead with an 11-yard touchdown pass to Ian Simpson and an 8-yarder to Samuel Gbatu Jr. Joshua Wood capped a two-play drive drive when he fired a 68-yard scoring strike to Michael Graves as Idaho (4-6, 2-4) pulled within 14-7 just 11 seconds into the second quarter. Pinnick scored on a 22-yard run to finish off a 10-play, 94-yard drive with 2:17 left for a 21-7 advantage at halftime.

Pinnick's 3-yard scoring toss to Stacy Dobbins was the lone score in the third quarter. Wood connected with Graves again for a 35-yard touchdown and the Vandals cut it to 28-14 with 11:35 left to play. Wood drove Idaho to a first-and-goal at the 10-yard line with 2:46 remaining, but Jayden Stanley intercepted his fourth-down pass to end the threat. Pinnick finished with 248 yards on 21-for-27 passing with two interceptions. Gbatu had seven receptions for 110 yards and Jordan Fisher rushed for 103 yards on 21 carries. Wood made good on 20 of 38 passes for 297 yards with an interception. Graves caught three passes for 112 yards. - AP College Football

James Madison Football   Seth Cromwell had two of Northern Arizona's five rushing touchdowns, Kolbe Katsis scored on a 100-yard kickoff return, and the Lumberjacks beat Northern Colorado 49-10 on Saturday. Ty Pennington threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to Jayson Raines to open the scoring about seven minutes into the game, Darvon Hubbard scored on a 4-yard run late in the first quarter and Quran Gossett ran for a 7-yard TD that made it 21-3 with two minutes left in the second.

Brandon Johnson's 3-yard touchdown run for Northern Colorado (3-6, 1-4 Big Sky Conference) capped a 10-play, 73-yard drive with 23 seconds left in the first half but Katsis returned the ensuing kickoff for a TD that gave the Lumberjacks a 28-10 lead at halftime. It was the first kickoff return for a touchdown by a Northern Arizona (5-4, 2-3) player since 2017, also against the Bears. Cromwell scored on third-quarter runs of 2 and 7 yards before Ryan Fontaine capped the scoring with a 7-yard TD run in the fourth quarter. Pennington was 19-of-22 passing for 255 yards.   Wake Forest Football   Gio Lopez threw for two second-half touchdowns and North Carolina's defense relentlessly pressured Elijah Brown as the Tar Heels beat Stanford 20-15 Saturday for their second straight victory in Atlantic Coast Conference play. Jordan Shipp led the Tar Heels (4-5, 2/3 ACC) with 83 yards receiving on five catches. His 55-yard touchdown grab extended the lead to 20-3 early in the fourth quarter. Lopez, who was 18 of 25 for 203 yards passing, also connected with Davion Gause for a 20-yard score. "Good win," coach Bill Belichick said. "Good to win at home. Always good to win at home. Proud of our team." Brown, a redshirt freshman making his first start this season and the second of his career, threw for 268 yards with one touchdown and one interception but was also sacked nine times.

Two late touchdowns, including a 24-yard catch by CJ Williams, made it a one-score game with 1:48 to play, but it was too little, too late for Stanford (3-7, 2-5 ACC), which dropped its third straight. Williams finished with six catches for 61 yards, while Caden High added 10 receptions for 102 yards. "I'm really happy with how Elijah fought back," coach Frank Reich said. "Obviously, some of the protection stuff, he was just trying to hold on. He didn't flinch, it didn't faze him." The first half featured just 147 total yards and as many punts (six) as points. Fittingly, North Carolina's defense set up the first score when Andrew Simpson stripped Brown, allowing Smith Vilbert to recover at the Stanford 7. That led to a Rece Verhoff 27-yard field goal. The Tar Heels' 3-0 lead after the first quarter was their first since a Sept. 13 win over Richmond. Ethan Kenney converted a 38-yard field goal on the half's final play, making up for an earlier miss. - North Carolina/AP College Football

Delaware Football   Nate Reed converted an onside kick and followed that with a 51-yard field goal with 12 seconds remaining as Delaware scored nine points in the final 34 seconds to beat Louisiana Tech 25-24 on Saturday. Reed's bounding onside effort cleared the Bulldogs players and Ja'Carree Kelly recovered on the Louisiana Tech 35. Four plays later, Reed booted the game-winner to spoil the Bulldogs' comeback from a 16-7 fourth-quarter deficit. Reed's onside kick came after Nick Minicucci threw a 3-yard touchdown pass to Elijah Sessions to complete an eight-play, 75-yard drive.

A two-point try failed. The Bulldogs (5-4, 3-3 Conference USA) took a 24-16 lead with 2:23 to go on Jacob Fields' 38-yard pick-6 to cap a run of 17 straight points. Minicucci was 26-of-52 passing for 304 yards and two touchdowns but also two interceptions for the Blue Hens (5-4, 3-3). He added 56 rushing yards. Sean Wilson had 107 yards receiving.   Lamar Football   Robert Coleman threw for a touchdown and Major Bowden ran for a score and Lamar moved into a second-place tie in the Southland Conference with Southeastern Louisiana, beating the Lions 14-12 on Saturday. The Lions turned the ball over on downs on their final drive and Lamar took possession and let time run out in two plays. Lamar (8-2, 5-1) never trailed. Coleman threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to JaCorey Harder at the end of a 12-play, 80-yard drive for the game's first score with 28 seconds before halftime.

Guillermo Garcia Rodriguez kicked field goals of 50 and 29 yards in a 3 1/2-half minute span in the third quarter to shave the Lions' deficit to a point. Early in the fourth, Major Bowden carried it in from the 1 for a 14-6 Lamar lead. The score came at the end of a 15-play, 77-yard drive that took 7 1/2 minutes. Jack Hunter's 22-yard touchdown run with 7:23 left brought Southeastern Louisiana within 14-12, but the two-point conversion failed.   Texas-Rio Grande Valley Football   Nate Denney had 120 yards rushing and two touchdowns on 25 carries, Eddie Lee Marburger threw two touchdown passes, and UT Rio Grande Valley beat Nicholls 28-21 on Saturday night. Marburger was 20-of-30 passing for 247 yards and threw an interception for UTRGV (7-3, 3-3 Southland Conference). A 19-yard punt gave the Vaqueros possession at the Nicholls 35 and, after Marburger hit Ismael Smith Flores for a 28-yard gain, Denney scored on a 7-yard run to make it 21-14 with 3:29 left in the third quarter. Tavian Cord's 44-yard touchdown reception with 10:15 to play made it a 14-point game.

Ean Rodrigue completed 18 of 31 passes for 175 yards with a 16-yard TD strike to tight end Everett Hunter for Nicholls (3-7, 3-3). Miequle Brock Jr. and Shane Lee added touchdown runs of 4 and 8 yards, respectively. Lee's TD capped an eight-play, 75-yard drive and made it 28-21 with 6:14 to play but UTRGV answered with an 11-play drive that took nearly 5 1/2 minutes off the clock to all but end it. - AP College Football

Szarka's 12-yard touchdown pass to Quin Smith capped a 10-play, 75-yard drive that stretched the Air Force lead to 23-13 with 9:11 to play. San Jose State's Denis Lynch kicked a 34-yard field goal with 5:43 left, but then Air Force (3-6, 2-4 Mountain West Conference) chewed up most of the remainder before Reagan Tubbs sealed it for the Falcons on a 33-yard field goal with 34 seconds left.

Idaho State Football   Jordan Cooke threw a touchdown pass and ran for a score, Dason Brooks topped 100 yards rushing with a touchdown and Idaho State posted a wire-to-wire 27-17 victory over Cal Poly on Saturday. Cooke ended a 74-yard game-opening drive with a 17-yard touchdown pass to Michael Shulikov before adding a 3-yard touchdown run to cap a 12-play 91-yard drive and Idaho State (4-6, 3-3 Big Sky Conference) led 14-0 after one quarter. Cal Poly (3-7, 1-5) didn't score until Ty Dieffenbach ran it in from 17 yards out with 91 seconds left before halftime.

That was enough time for Cooke to drive the Bengals 75 yards in seven plays with Brooks scoring on a 5-yard run for a 21-7 advantage. Trajan Sinatra had a 19-yard field goal in the third quarter and a 20-yarder in the fourth. Delon Thompson's 2-yard TD run a little over a minute into the second quarter made it 7-7 but, on the next play from scrimmage, Campbell - whose 22-yard touchdown reception opened the scoring - caught a short pass at the 40 and made a defender miss as he raced to the end zone for a 65-yard touchdown that gave Sacramento State (6-4, 4-2 Big Sky Conference) the lead for good.

The Hornets ran for 295 yards and five touchdowns. Damian Henderson II, Sam Adams II and JaQuail Smith each had a rushing TD for Sacramento State.   Wisconsin Football   Two days after the announcement that he'd be returning as Wisconsin's coach next season, Luke Fickell got an even bigger vote of confidence from his players. Particularly from the guys on defense. Nathanial Vakos made a tiebreaking 32-yard field goal late in the third quarter and Mason Posa and Cooper Catalano led a dominant defensive effort as Wisconsin snapped a six-game skid by upsetting No. 24 Washington 13-10 on Saturday. "The whole locker room has been behind Coach Fick since day one," said Catalano, who had 19 tackles. "Hearing that obviously reaffirmed us." The Badgers (3-6, 1-5 Big Ten) had lost 11 straight games against Power Four opponents before winning this one as a 10½-point underdog, according to Sportsbook.

Wisconsin's victory came after athletic director Chris McIntosh announced Thursday that Fickell would remain the Badgers' coach beyond this season. "I have an incredible appreciation and respect for Chris McIntosh, what he has had to do," Fickell said. "There's mixed emotions on my part, to be honest with you. I don't ever want somebody to fight my battles, but I understand that that's where we are. I can't say thank you enough to Chris for fighting the battle he's fighting, and for Chancellor (Jennifer) Mnookin to listen and believe." The Badgers withstood an injury to quarterback Danny O'Neil, who was making his first start since Sept. 13 and got carted off the field with an apparent leg injury in the first quarter. Freshman Carter Smith took over for Wisconsin and went 3 of 12 passing for 8 yards in his college debut, though he rushed for 47 yards and a touchdown. Half of Wisconsin's 48 yards passing came from punter Sean West, who threw a 24-yard completion on a successful fake. Wisconsin's defense pushed Washington (6-3, 3-3, No. 23 College Football Playoff) around all day. Washington's only touchdown came on Denzel Boston's one-handed grab of a Demond Williams Jr. pass after Anthony Ward's blocked punt gave the Huskies first-and-goal from the 1. - AP College Football

Phillips piled up 168 yards on 27 carries for South Dakota (7-4, 5-2 Missouri Valley Football Conference), ranked No. 25 in the latest FCS coaches poll while the Jackrabbits entered at No. 9. Phillips had the only score in the second half on a 32-yard run 3:36 into the third quarter.

South Dakota State (7-3, 3-3) jumped on top on the first play from scrimmage - a 75-yard touchdown run by Jack Smith for a 7-0 lead.
