FAU coach Willie Taggart named former Miami Hurricanes quarterback N'Kosi Perry the Owls' starter for their season opener against the Florida Gators on Saturday. Throughout camp, the Owls had an ongoing four-way competition, including last year's starter Nick Tronti, Penn State transfer Michael Johnson Jr. and Javion Posey. Perry, a graduate transfer, spent four seasons with the Hurricanes, completing 208 of 397 passes for 2,484 yards with 24 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in 24 games. Perry, who graduated from Vanguard High School in Ocala, Fla., played his final game with the Hurricanes against Oklahoma State in December 2020 at the Cheez-It Bowl. He went 19 of 34 for 228 yards and two touchdowns in UM's 37-34 loss. - Sun-Sentinel
