Goodbye, Garrett Wilson, slot receiver. It was a fun year. But this season might provide an even better pass-catching party. The announcement a year ago that the Buckeyes' five-star sophomore receiver was moving inside to create mismatches and greater explosion opportunities out of the slot was a shot of football adrenaline. Wilson could work over slot corners, safeties and linebackers, offering reliable third-down hands coupled with a constant big-play touchdown threat.

A highlight search offered a reminder of Wilson lining up a yard off the left tackle, matched on an Indiana linebacker, getting past him in seven steps, turning back to catch on his hip a Justin Fields pass that was slightly behind him and that was an easy 65-yard gain. "I think his ability to catch the ball, put it away, run after the catch so quickly is something you want out of a slot receiver," Ryan Day last March, and I wrote about the move as if the Buckeyes had just invented the forward pass. Wilson was named first-team All-Big Ten and second-team All-American, while providing a new package of speed, hands and route-running that the Buckeyes hadn't really seen in the slot before, at least not to that level. - Cleveland Plain Dealer
