  12/02/20 - WR DWan MathisrSr/2025, Transfer

Coach Kirby Smart said Monday he wanted Mathis, a redshirt freshman from Oak Park, to continue his career at Georgia, where JT Daniels has emerged as the starter. "I am excited to see his future," Smart said of Mathis. "He's going to be a really good football player. We want him to stay here. There's no doubt we want him to stay here. We have encouraged him to stay here. But I also respect that is his decision, and we are going to help him every way we can with a transition. I think he's got a bright future."

Mathis committed to Michigan State in 2017 but flipped to Ohio State after getting an offer from the Buckeyes. But when Ohio State secured the transfer of Justin Fields from Georgia, Mathis flipped again to the Bulldogs and enrolled in January 2019. Reached by The Detroit News on Monday, Mathis was asked if transferring to Michigan State was on the table. "It's an option but I'm just not sure," he said. "I'm leaving all my options open. I'm not really sure when I'm going to make a decision." - Detroit News
