UCF safety Richie Grant isn't sure what happened on the play that knocked him out of the game during the third quarter of the Knights' loss to Tulsa on Oct. 10. But he does remember how badly he wanted to stay on the field and compete with his brothers. "All I can remember from that moment was I was telling the training staff, 'Let me get a couple of plays in. I don't want to let my brothers down,'" Grant recalled. "I didn't want to leave the field at all. "When I became aware of what was happening, I remember that was the only thought I had. I had to get back out there. I knew it was a crucial moment and I didn't want to let my team down."

A vicious hit left Grant on the ground for several minutes and took the air out of the stadium. Teammates huddled together under a constant drizzle, many on one knee watching as the training staff checked on their fallen teammate. Grant eventually got up and left the field under his own power. While he did return to the sidelines, he didn't return to action. UCF defensive back Richie Grant (27) runs during the Knights' loss to Tulsa on Oct. 3 at the Bounce House in Orlando. "I got a lot of text messages and calls; people telling me they were scared," Grant said. "To me, it felt like I was out a little bit and came back. I understood why they were scared like that. I remember the play before, but I didn't remember the play that happened." - Orlando Sentinel
